341655 tn?1240368839 Yes. The surgery for a hiatal hernia is the Nissen Fundaplication, where a portion of the fundus is wrapped around the esophagus in the area of the lower esophageal sphincter. As for the type, 90% of all hiatal hernias are sliding hernias, not paraesophageal, so it's probably a sliding hiatal hernia that you have.
Avatar f tn You should have had a upper GI Barium Swallow to see if there is a hiatal hernia. However, I had this and it showed not hernia. When I had surgery for the funoplication wrap for my valve they discovered a hiatal hernia so bad that my valve and stomach were in my upper chest cavity. With a hiatal hernia it can cause breathing problems so bad that I got panic attacks with them. Also, it might be your asphogus is raw.
Avatar n tn majority of hernia repairs are done in day surgery, they are very common and are basically a routine surgery for a lot of Drs... and yes hernias can become bigger...
Avatar m tn I know about fibroids,Medicine can shrink some fibroids. Some women need surgery. A way to treat women with fibroids is called uterine fibroid embolization. Fibroids have a large blood supply that makes them grow., will shrink or go away completely( in theory) if the blood supply is stopped. embolization is a way to stop the blood flow that makes fibroids grow. fibroid embolization is not surgery, but it's done at a hospital.
Avatar n tn Going in for surgery Nov17'08. The total hysterectomy, hernia and sling will be performed. I am very nervous after reviewing this site and the "horror" stories told. I have fibroids pressing against the badder, which is now, poorly distended, a overly large uterus ,as well as a hernia. I have a calcified kidney stone"which is being "guarded".
Avatar n tn The surgery is best performed as an elective surgery with all the adequate precautions, to prevent recurrence. So, as you wait for the surgery try to lose weight and if a diabetic, see that it is adequately controlled. But if you develop pain or redness or any signs of inflammation, please consult your doctor immediately. And the cosmetic repair of the abdomen could also be done with the hernia repair. But please discuss the various options with your doctor prior to surgery.
Avatar n tn My wife has problems with the size of my penis saying it is too short. She states that it is so short that it is very difficult to penetrate. She states that the positions we have to use to penetrate are painful (she has many problems with pain........a compression fracture in her back, a fractured femur and hip a year and a half ago.) I had surgery two years ago for a belly button hernia and am wondering if my surgery has anything to do with this problem. I am also slightly overweight.
Avatar m tn When you can do the anulom vilom and kapabhati for more than 20 minutes, you will notice that your symptoms start to decrease. When you reach this point, you can delay any surgery for 6 months, and then reconsider the options, but continue the pranayam. Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after one minute. Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in).
Avatar n tn So the heart doctor thinks that the chest pain is caused from the hital hernia and the acid reflux and thinks that having the chest pain as bad as I have it that surgery is needed for the hernia. I need some advice on this can anyone help me.

Avatar m tn I am scheduled to get an open surgery for an umbilical hernia on the 25th. The surgeon specializes weight loss lap band surgeries. I found a highly regarded hernia specialist that I could use but may be a longer wait. Is it worth it?
Avatar n tn Since your sperm count is borderline, it would be better to discuss alternatives to surgery for correction of the varicocele. This includes radiographic embolization. "A hydrocelectomy is typically performed on an outpatient basis with no special precautions required. The extent of the surgery depends on whether other problems are present. If the hydrocele is uncomplicated, the doctor makes an incision directly into the scrotum.
Avatar n tn I am a 60 year old women athlete. I completed a 1/2 ironman in May . I have a small umbilical hernia. There is no pain, but when run my hand across by stomach above my belly button, it sticks out. My doctor wants to "keep an eye on it" and check it again in 3 months. Can I continue with weight training, swimming, running, and bicycle riding? The doctor seemed extremely vague about what training I could continue. Is there anything I can do to keep from having surgery?
Avatar n tn If by chance at the back of your mind you ever feel surgery may be necessary, then leaving a good gap between his neuter surgery and possible hernia surgery should be fine for him.
Avatar n tn My husband had the surgery many years ago and he did just fine. You will have to take it easy for awhile though. Depending on how extensive the hernia is, I would'nt be too surprised if they do the surgery out patient. Of course you'll receive pains meds and the Dr will send you home with a script for pain meds.
Avatar m tn What can I do? I have an extremely painful Hiatal hernia but cannot have surgery due to blood clots. Also, what alternative medicine is recommended? Please help. Thank You.
Avatar n tn Several factors are responsible for hernia such as a sudden unexpected lifting of heavy item, raised intra-abdominal pressure in women during pregnancy and childbirth and laxity of abdominal wall muscles due to multiple pregnancies, sedentary life style, and lack of physical exercise. Adults with umbilical hernias are at a higher risk of developing complications such as blockage or strangulation of the intestines, which often requires emergency surgery, and can be life-threatening.

Avatar n tn Anyway my question is has anyone had a surgery other than the nissen fundo to repair the hernia. I am interested in having mine fixed but do NOT want my stomach wrapped around my esophagus. I'd like for a surgeon to just go in and pull the stomach to its proper position and sew up the hole in the diaphram essentially returning everything to its natural order.
Avatar m tn Is this a result of surgery, the accident or both. I don’t understand how a car accident can cause a hernia.
Avatar n tn If factors like straining activities, constipation etc persist, then they enlarge faster. Surgery is the treatment opted for when the size is large and hernia is symptomatic. Having said that, I would also say that the earlier it is repaired, the better it is. There are belts available for umbilical and paraumbilical hernias which you can wear to minimize pressure on the hernia. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
