Avatar f tn If the pet is already spayed or neutered, repair of the hernia will require another surgery. Or, if a female has a recessed or immature vaginal area it is best to wait until the vaginal area matures before spaying to help avoid urinary and vaginal infection problems. This problem cannot be assessed if the pet is already spayed early.
Avatar f tn My question is since my dog was neutered what could have caused him to get the hernia? I thought neutering male dogs kept them from getting this type of hernia.
Avatar f tn I think that the kind of hernia surgery you are looking at it is a relatively simple surgery, as far as surgery goes. I don't think the dog will have to be put under deep anaesthesia, the procedure is something that is done close to the surface, and it is a fairly quick operation. I would expect a healthy dog to recover well. Your boy might have some activity restrictions while he is recovering, to keep him from pulling the stitches loose and undoing the procedure.
Avatar n tn How strange, I responded to you several weeks ago, but it looks like it never posted. Hope you are recovering well from your repairs!! My surgeon was incredibly confident, telling me basically I could walk dogs the day I went home from surgery (not that I'd want to, I think he was just making a point as to how strong his work was).
Avatar f tn My 9 year old beagle is not neutured. This has led to an enlarged prostate and he is on a medication (Not sure of name but they are pink tablets) for it. I want to get him neutured, but my vet is old fashioned, and doesn't recommend surgury. My dog literally leaks blood constantly all over the house due to the enlarged prostate.
442658 tn?1563386491 not really a question just a comment...my 41/2 old pup had a hernia repair and spay. she came home with a bottle of tramadols 50mg. i didn t know dogs could take them esp a pup. i don t think she needs them cos she s running around and eating well. i ve had other dogs that have had surgeries and they have never been given pain meds. i just find this strange........
7444176 tn?1390859012 I am very afraid and sadden by his condition, perineal hernia. He had surgery a couple weeks before X-mas a year ago, thankful it has only been one. But the vet never told me before or after costly surgery that this would be life long. I excepted the challenge because the love I have for my animal. I have tried everything from peas and carrots in his food, fiber, laxatives, olive oil, psyllium seed, etc.
341655 tn?1240368839 Yes. The surgery for a hiatal hernia is the Nissen Fundaplication, where a portion of the fundus is wrapped around the esophagus in the area of the lower esophageal sphincter. As for the type, 90% of all hiatal hernias are sliding hernias, not paraesophageal, so it's probably a sliding hiatal hernia that you have.
1322711 tn?1278415855 I would like to think it is a phantom hernia but the pain has been getting increasingly worse and the last doctor I went to said he actually felt the hernia. If it is a phantom hernia then I am being cut open for nothing, which I am not fond about so I do hope there is actually something there that can be fixed.
442658 tn?1563386491 i picked up the pup and was told all the pups( litter of 8 ) had hernias. the male dogs went away but 2 females still had the hernia. i m going to take her to my vet to find out about it..thanks...
Avatar f tn You should have had a upper GI Barium Swallow to see if there is a hiatal hernia. However, I had this and it showed not hernia. When I had surgery for the funoplication wrap for my valve they discovered a hiatal hernia so bad that my valve and stomach were in my upper chest cavity. With a hiatal hernia it can cause breathing problems so bad that I got panic attacks with them. Also, it might be your asphogus is raw.
Avatar n tn The surgery is best performed as an elective surgery with all the adequate precautions, to prevent recurrence. So, as you wait for the surgery try to lose weight and if a diabetic, see that it is adequately controlled. But if you develop pain or redness or any signs of inflammation, please consult your doctor immediately. And the cosmetic repair of the abdomen could also be done with the hernia repair. But please discuss the various options with your doctor prior to surgery.
Avatar n tn Yorkshire Terriers are extremely difficult to bred, hernia or not. These are VERY tiny dogs, and the problems that come along with breeding them can end up costing you not only thousands of dollars, but they can also cost you the life of your dog and/or her puppies. If you look at the Yorkshire Terrier breed standard as written by the AKC (American Kennel Club), it tells you that a Yorkshire Terrier should weigh between four and seven pounds. A three pound Yorkie is EXTREMELY small.
Avatar m tn I had surgery for an inigual hernia on my right side ,open surgery. on january of 2007, soon after the surgery i started getting pain in my right testicle and severe cramping in my stomach area and extreme pain. I have seen 2 surgeons since the first surgery, the first surgeon thought it might be caused by the inigual nerve. On january 2008 i had surgery to have the nerve cut. It did not help and the pain in my testicle and groin area, as well as my abdomain has been getting worse.
Avatar f tn Hard stools in humans are usually the result of either insufficient water intake or of the body's absorbing excessive liquid out of the stool. Rarely do dogs have problems with constipation or hard stools, because their gut is pretty short. Dogs generally don't have enough gut length for too much water to be absorbed. Loose stools are a much more frequent problem in dogs than hard stools.
1388357 tn?1280189493 I have to share this because we hear of so many doctors who don't know about cm/sm... I took my dog to the vet yesterday, and mentioned that because I had surgery, I've been having my daughter bathe the dogs, so I'm not as "hands on" with the dogs as far as noticing any physical changes on them. She asked what kind of surgery, and I explained about chiari and the decompression surgery.
Avatar m tn I am scheduled to get an open surgery for an umbilical hernia on the 25th. The surgeon specializes weight loss lap band surgeries. I found a highly regarded hernia specialist that I could use but may be a longer wait. Is it worth it?
Avatar n tn Since your sperm count is borderline, it would be better to discuss alternatives to surgery for correction of the varicocele. This includes radiographic embolization. "A hydrocelectomy is typically performed on an outpatient basis with no special precautions required. The extent of the surgery depends on whether other problems are present. If the hydrocele is uncomplicated, the doctor makes an incision directly into the scrotum.
Avatar f tn Reason for this is due to me having gallstones for so many years, surgeon believes it may be too diseased to take out laparoscopy method. What is the recovery time for this major surgery, cutting my body half way around from front to back? What can I expect after surgery? I also have two hernias to be removed while under anesthesia for gallbladder removal. I am scared and middle aged. Does anyone know how long the recovery time would be for all of this combined?
Avatar n tn My husband had the surgery many years ago and he did just fine. You will have to take it easy for awhile though. Depending on how extensive the hernia is, I would'nt be too surprised if they do the surgery out patient. Of course you'll receive pains meds and the Dr will send you home with a script for pain meds.
Avatar m tn What can I do? I have an extremely painful Hiatal hernia but cannot have surgery due to blood clots. Also, what alternative medicine is recommended? Please help. Thank You.
Avatar f tn His litter sister had the same surgery, same day and had no issues. My Guy is still on a bland diet..
544906 tn?1291345405 Didnt she already have surgery a few weeks ago?? I had umbilical hernia repair surgery about 4 weeks before I got pregnant with Taylor, it hurt like heck, I hope they give you some strong painkillers for Cadee (love the nick name) Im sure she will be back to her old self soon after her surgery. Prays for Cadee!
Avatar n tn Anyway my question is has anyone had a surgery other than the nissen fundo to repair the hernia. I am interested in having mine fixed but do NOT want my stomach wrapped around my esophagus. I'd like for a surgeon to just go in and pull the stomach to its proper position and sew up the hole in the diaphram essentially returning everything to its natural order.
Avatar m tn Is this a result of surgery, the accident or both. I don’t understand how a car accident can cause a hernia.
