572651 tn?1530999357 Personally though, I have not heard of six month waits for heart surgery in Canada. The current wait time for scheduled (non-urgent) coronory bypass surgery in Calgary is 6 weeks; for urgent, 1.1 weeks. Also 1 week for urgent surgical intervention of brain and spinal cord conditions. My mother had double bypass surgery in Vancouver within a couple of weeks of the initial referral, came through it with flying colours, and has had excellent follow up care.
Avatar f tn Having hiatal hernia (Nissen) surgery in a few days. My questions are : How soon would it be safe to climb stairs? When can I resume exercising? Some say that sit ups would strengthen the abdomen. Is that true? if so when should I start that? Reading the blog, most people are complaining about not being able to eat. Is this a normal? Would it be better to do a liquid diet for awhile? If so, How long should it be?
Avatar f tn If anyone of you have undergone surgery in CEC, please share your experience. As I will not have insurance coverage, the surgery cost is a big worry for me. I know it varies from patient to patient, but please let me know how much it cost you, so that I can have some rough idea of how much to expect.
Avatar n tn I had a few umbilicar hernia operations, the last surgery a mesh was placed in my stomic. Years later I noticed my stomic is geting larger and larger and it is very hard, I was told i need two doctors one for the hernia and the other for the diastasis abd wall. My questions are - 1 would my insurance pay? 2- Do you know of a good Doctor. - Is it a diffacult operation?
Avatar f tn Hello, I used to have extreme pain in the left lower abdomen area (groin area), which was the result of a hernia. I had surgery in July and that took all the pain away. Unfortunately, about two weeks ago, the same exact pain came back. For the past few days, Ive had extreme sharp pain in the same area. I went to the surgeon who fixed my hernia, and she proclaimed that "there is no way the pain is from the hernia".
942162 tn?1245428214 The risks of a diaphragmatic hernia depend on the size of the hernia. If it's large, chances are internal organs will eventually find their way through the hole and become strangulated, leading to emergency surgery to save the pet's life. If it's small, the pet can go its entire life and live a normal number of years and never have a problem with it. I don't know why it would cost thousands of dollars to repair, however.
Avatar f tn In his reply he stated that the quality of medical care in Canada was similar to USA and that this total colectomy surgery was a routine operation. Why does USA/Canada believe that it is "safe" whereas HK believes that it is "dangerous"? Something is not consistent here. Try typing in "mortality rate from total colectomy" into google. I think that there are articles stating that the mortality rate is between 1 and 3%.

Avatar m tn at last (as I had at first told my doctor) they checked on my stomach and found I had hiatal hernia. The doctor prescribed me Pantoloc (Pantoprazole) 40 mg once a day and it got a bit better. A month after I went to see the doctor and as I am still having breathing problems he increased the dose to 40 mg twice a day (mornings and evenings) and asked me to go and see him again in 2 months.
1169557 tn?1263270893 My mother had the gastric bypass surgery about 3 years ago. The operation went horribly wrong and she almost died on the operation table. Fortunately she was able to make it through (barely) and faught for her life. She was in hospital for weeks until she was sent home. Even when she was sent home she was on bed rest with a feeding tube and cathater attatched.
Avatar f tn I think that the kind of hernia surgery you are looking at it is a relatively simple surgery, as far as surgery goes. I don't think the dog will have to be put under deep anaesthesia, the procedure is something that is done close to the surface, and it is a fairly quick operation. I would expect a healthy dog to recover well. Your boy might have some activity restrictions while he is recovering, to keep him from pulling the stitches loose and undoing the procedure.
Avatar f tn Also call the hospital/clinic where you'd get it done to get a price quote for the procedure.
