HI...I have not had this surgery and from what others have said about it I hope ur dr advised u in advance of the issues u will have afterward.....many post they were unaware they would not be able to vomit even tho they have the flu and feel sick.....also that the Nissen can slip...need to be redone and several have had a re occurrence of the same symptoms that had prior to surgery...u can use the search this community to get to older threads on this topic.

Since your sperm count is borderline, it would be better to discuss alternatives to surgery for correction of the varicocele.

I think that the kind of hernia surgery you are looking at it is a relatively simple surgery, as far as surgery goes. I don't think the dog will have to be put under deep anaesthesia, the procedure is something that is done close to the surface, and it is a fairly quick operation. I would expect a healthy dog to recover well. Your boy might have some activity restrictions while he is recovering, to keep him from pulling the stitches loose and undoing the procedure.
I just had the Laparoscopic Nissen Fundoplication (NF) on 02/28/2011, and had my Gallbladder removed on 10/28/2010. Up until early 2010, I was fine. No symptoms. I then contacted MRSA in May, and all symptoms seemed to follow. I am 35 years old, as symptoms started when I was 34.
My stomach was mildly achy all the time and I was nauseated constantly. A heating pad was my best friend, and still is to this day. It got worse, along with heatburn, nausea, and regurgitation.
Luckily Tums have started working and if I can force myself to stretch, sometimes it will go away. I am researching alternatives to the surgery and visiting an alternative health center to attempt the massage to ease the stomach back into place. I'm not expecting a miracle but I'm willing to exhaust all options before surgery.
The biggest issue though is what was originally thought to be Post Nasal Drip.
My husband had the surgery many years ago and he did just fine. You will have to take it easy for awhile though. Depending on how extensive the hernia is, I would'nt be too surprised if they do the surgery out patient. Of course you'll receive pains meds and the Dr will send you home with a script for pain meds.
Anyway my question is has anyone had a surgery other than the nissen fundo to repair the hernia. I am interested in having mine fixed but do NOT want my stomach wrapped around my esophagus. I'd like for a surgeon to just go in and pull the stomach to its proper position and sew up the hole in the diaphram essentially returning everything to its natural order.

At 19 months he had an endoscopy and was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia. The ped gastroenterologist said the hiatal hernia was probably from low muscle tone and the constant vomittrng. He has gotten better with age and we have never considered surgery since heis well contolled with meds. Gary was on Prevacid from 2 years old until last year. Last year our insurance stopped covering Prevacid so we had to switch to Prilosec which they cover 100% It has worked well though the dosage is higher.
Hi Jenny, I have a hiatal hernia, but do not require surgery...I have known about my hernia since I was in my teens. I had a few flares that required meds...but, with proper diet and lifestyle I am able to keep it under control without meds.
I just got my self off meds after being on them 2 yrs....I had flares from 3 diff surgeries....the meds they use to put u under alone can upset a balanced system.
I have already planned the surgery to fix the hernia for next week . 2 days ago I had an ultrasound which showed that I have gallbladder sludge and maybe some very small stones . I never had any pains in the stomach and the only thing that might be a symptoms is some digestive problems . The doctor advised that since I am going to surgery for the hernia I should proceed with the removal of the gallbladder .
I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia on March 30. I am supposed to take this for three months and then drop down to once a day.
Previous to my diagnosis I had taken 20 mg Prilosec OTC first once a day, than twice after my diagnosis, since the prescription was nearly $200.00 for just 2 weeks worth.
I was still having heartburn at night so I finally filed the prescription. It really isn't doing any better than the first OTC that I tried per the Physicians Assistant.
I need gallbladder surgery in the near future. I have abdominal meshing and want to know if they can do laproscopic surgery on me or not. ANYONE have my issue?
I am sorry to hear you have a hernia but at least you finally have answers to the pain you've been experiencing. I have not had a hernia (or don't think that is the cause of my occasional twinges of pain/discomfort) so cannot answer any questions about surgery. Hope all goes well!
Does this mean surgery failed? is hernia back (now they are referring to this as a paraesophageal hernia) The doctors never told us herina might be back so I am wondering when I see x-ray report and it shos Pre-demonstartion of hernia, does that mean there is a new issue or they are seeing repaired hernia?
is it typical that Nissen wrap would slip so soon after surgery?
ve had a hydrocele surgery at the age of six, left side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 10, and a right side inguinal hernia surgery at the age of 24. My right testicle have been attached closer to my body since my hydrocele surgery and I can clearly remember how uncomfortable it felt to have such an abnormal position of your testicle. After 20 years, I still feel some discomforting pains (on my right testicle) when exercising.
Bottom line I went into get gallbladder removed now I need OPEN Hernia surgery to repair inguinal hernia. (My internist agrees the gas probably pushed the hernia out. Painful bulge,burns sometimes, but seems to go back in when I sleep and pops out next day.) Can gas cause this and if my surgeon read prior scans (he didnt) what could have been done differently. I am sure I am not the first patient to have suffered from gas-induced hernia.
