Avatar n tn My mother had gone through a sleeve gastrectomy operation 3 weeks ago. On the 22nd post-operative day, due to severe pain in the epigastric zone, her doctor ordered an abdominal CT. It turns out that portal vein and superior mesenteric vein are thrombosed. They put her on enoxaparin and wanted her to rest for 5 days until the next control. She refused to be put on heparin or warfarin because of her history of gastrointestinal bleeding and recent surgery.
1013028 tn?1250923267 Thrombosis can be prevented with heparin administration and treated with heparin and warfarin. If clots occur heparin followed by warfarin ( coumadin )is usually prescribed. Higher-than-usual doses of warfarin may be needed. Warfarin or Coumadin is prescribed to prevent strokes arising from atrial fibrillation and DVTs forming in the legs usually.
Avatar f tn Coumadin pre-operatively, as you state one considers the risks of hemorrhage or thromboembolism versus the benefit from the operation. When considering noncardiac surgery, these factors and the need to weigh the risk of hemorrhage against that of thromboembolism must analyzed on an individual patient basis. Certain procedures such as a bunion that are not procedure that threatens limb or life are easy analysis.
Avatar n tn I am scared of this happening again so this time I am wanting to have Clexane injections during the pregnancy to prevent. Does anyone know at what stage of pregnancy I am likely to start these injections?
Avatar n tn continue through with warfarin, or to stop the warfarin and bridge in between with enoxaparin or heparin (as snconorm had done). http://www.circ.ahajournals.org/cgi/content/full/116/22/2531 So continuing through with warfarin seems to be the newer strategy. What would NOT be done is to stop anticoagulation altogether.
Avatar n tn Can you take what with it? In general, patients on heparin should not experiment with supplements without their doctor's approval. Supplements can be great, but they aren't as exact in their dosing as a drug like heparin, and doctors don't know much about them.
286207 tn?1249282027 So they put me on heparin and baby aspirin and I conceived and gave birth to a healthy little girl in April. I will do heparin and baby aspirin again when starting to try for #2!!!
496236 tn?1210204288 I feel like I am just talking to walls and I get looked at like I have 3 heads!! I am pregnant again in my 18th weeks and am getting the sparkles, auroras, and every one in a while distorted vision. My B/P and urine is great. I also have a history of Crest syndrome, Sjrogren's, 3 DVT's, a PE and a possible TIA before my last pregnancy. Is there any long lasting effects of preeclampsia on the nerology end?
Avatar m tn As far as I can tell the only way I can do this is to give myself two shots of heparin a day and take a baby aspirin. The result would be a baby they say, but this scares me taking heparin and then having a c-section. Anyone else that has been diagnosed with this or whom can help me please respond. I am new on the site and I am a little unsure abot how this works.
Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
Avatar f tn It was quite painful and I was treated with warfarin/coumadin pills and eventually the clots dissolved. Warfarin is NOT to be taken when pregnant because it will effect the baby so Lovenox/ heparin shots are often prescribed seeing as it is faster acting and won't reach the baby. I've also had surgery to place a little screen in my body to hopefully catch any blood clots from moving elsewhere in my body to my heart.
Avatar n tn I have a question on blood clots and pregnancy. A little history, I was hospitalized for pulmonary embolism (PE) about 1 year ago. I had no risk factors for blood clots other than being on birth control. I am not overweight, over 35 yrs, non smoking, had no genetic clotting disorders. I was on Warfarin for 6 months but am currently on no treatment. My question is now, should I be doing anything like taking asprin or anything? Also what about when I want to get pregnant?
Avatar m tn Or if you have a tissue valve, and depending on what the issue is, maybe apixiban or dabigitran.
Avatar m tn The only way I am aware that a woman with a mechanical valve might be able to carry a pregnancy to term is by taking daily heparin injections for anticoagulation purposes. Most people with a mechanical heart valve take warfarin tablets, but warfarin is contraindicated in pregnancy. Heparin is supposed to be safe for the baby, but there is no oral heparin; it has to be injected.
612551 tn?1450022175 Right, laprascopic, I have a problem with words longer than four letters. I think I had a endoscopic heart echo in the build up to my heart surgery in 2007, and that word got associated with getting into one's body through small holes. I read you profile and philosophy on life and death.
Avatar f tn She had a pulmonary embolism last week (no known cause) and is currently receiving warfarin and heparin injections. I am concerned that these drugs may not be suitable for an AVM person. She hasn't yet seen a consultant to determine treatment options for the AVM. I also wonder whether the PE could be connected to the AVM. Does anyone have a similar experience or some advice about whether there are alternatives or I am worrying about nothing?
Avatar f tn He was hospitalized immediately, and given heparin and morphine for pain in which he got sick on. Finally, given heparin, coumadin, and strong doses of vicaden he was able to get thru the pain. Abdomen swollen and sore. Can't eat much, nausea... The pain killers caused him not to be able to eliminate so he was given a catheter and suppositories.
Avatar n tn I have tried to research it and have found info about warfarin (another type of blood thinner) causing hairloss, and was wondering if anyone knew wether tinzaparin could be a cause for hairloss Thanks
Avatar f tn The treatment is by medications like heparin and warfarin which are blood thinners. Please discuss this with your doctor and keep us posted!
Avatar f tn I am 30 weeks pregnant. In the last pregnancy (2007), I had still birth at 34 weeks due to IUGR. During the present pregnancy, my doctor has recommended aspirin and Low Molecular Weight Heparin (like Clexane) for the entire pregnancy period. I am regularly taking these both medicines. Regularly undergoing Ultrasound regular scan and Doppler scan. Till now the growth of fetus is good and is better than the last pregnancy. But my platelet count is coming down, now its around 160,000.
Avatar f tn Now after a week of Warfarin and Lovemox shots, I am scheduled for a venogram, thrombolysis and then surgery to remove my 1st rib. After that lots of Heparin and more Warfarin for at least a month..not to mention LOTS of painkillers as this is a tough surgery. My question is how damaging are these blood thinners, anesthesia, painkillers and contrasts to the liver? Is there anything I can do to help my liver through this?
Avatar f tn For my father who can not have surgery to remove blood clots in the lungs and warfarin, etc. have not worked.....is there anything else out there that can dissolve the clots? Since we have the same blood type could we do a blood transfusion if I have the enzyme he doesn't have to dissolve clots? Thank you.
Avatar n tn He has just finished 6 weeks of IV antibiotics for an infection that attached to his arotic valve and also in the lining of his heart. Dr. says the vegetation is still attached to the arotic valve however the infection seems to be cleared up. My husband's heart is to weak and worn to survive any kind of surgery to remove the vegetation. Is there some other treatment that might help him?
770426 tn?1235061489 I was on warfarin for about a year and in that time I also started getting headaches. I've since been off warfarin starting in Nov 2012 and my headaches are worst then when being on warfarin. Still trying to figure out why. Before I started taking warfarin I never suffered from headaches.
178698 tn?1228774338 This is my second time with lovenox shots. The first was just to start the thinning process then I was able to take warfarin. They never diagnosed my first DVT, I was told it was a fluke. I'm now 13 weeks pregnant and have a second DVT. After testing I have Factor V Leiden and take 2x daily shots of 100mg lovenox. I already have had 3 natural pregnancies so this one surprised me.
