Like another comment said, birth control can help with long or heavy periods. It has been prescribed by many doctors for those specific reasons.

I forgot what its for. Does it help get me pregnant? Can some1 calculate when I ovulate so ill know?

I had a c section 20 mos ago. since then my periods have been really heavy and there is always a day I seem to gush blood. Well- my period came a week early this month and last night I seemed to have passed a lot of blood- that seemed really red. Now that I am up it does not seem to be flowing so strong. I don't have any pain- slight cramping. I am not sure whether I should go to the ER or not- hate to go if it is just my period! Just seems odd there was so, so much.

dont sweat it, mine did the same thing. did you recently start having periods? because almost everybody is irregular when you first start. its normal. if you notice that after a while its still not right then you should seek a doctors advice.

I have to always where a pad at all times because of discharge or regular period. My periods are very heavy with large blood clots (jelly like). My periods is also mixed with discharge. After my period it turns to brown discharge that does not have a smell and that last up until my next period. So, my periods have always been weird but maybe 4 months ago they became regular. Happening every month and being the right length and not being light but also not being to heavy. well I have been trying to get pregnant and there were so many chances I could have been but I'm still not pregnant. Well, our periods can naturally and normally fluctuate in regards to its length of time, amount of flow and color - heavy or spotting, etc. Alot of the time, it is determined by hormones, what we eat, vitamins, exercise, stress and/or the overall condition of our body at that time, mentally and physically, etc. (so I've been told by my gynocologist) and that it doesn't nessasarily or always point to having a serious problem.

Monday the 6th I started what I would say was a very light dark brown period, buy Tuesday it was gone, and was only visable when I wiped which ended Thursday, my periods normally last 5 days and heavy and not Dark brown( can only describe as a pooh like colour), im also 4/5 days early which is another mad one, ok I know it cannot be IB but I just wanted to no if any as had this happen to them.

So back to the main subject, I started bc pills and on the 10th day of taking them I started my period which was august 14th, 2013 and its medium bleeding and lil cramps but nothing bad at all. I'm not concerned I'm pregnant I js couldn't find the right subject! My periods are ALWAYS the same I always bleed for around 4-5 days it starts heavy for one then goes light and I do get pains but only the first few days, and my blood is always a browny colour sum times read and I do get blood clots. This one has been very different I I have now Been on for 3 days it's still very heavy and it's bright red and I have really bad pains through the day is this a concern?

Hi there. The above information is a bit inaccurate. It is not abnormal to have heavy periods especially on the first day of your period in which you change your pad every two hours. That is completely normal. check with your doctor for reassurance.
