Heat stroke brain damage

Common Questions and Answers about Heat stroke brain damage

heat

Avatar m tn Now, ever since then when its hot and sunny out even with a hat on and drinking water I feel so sensitive to heat. Hard to enjoy summer. Not sure If I suffered a heat stroke that day or any brain damage. But i will say i have felt slightly different ever since that. Especially, first week of school I had that time a huge panic attack which cause me anxiety which is a big story for another time. Recently this year I had a MRI on my brain for testing something.
Avatar m tn The CAT Scans do not show any trace of a stroke and the EKG do not show signs of a heart attack. the doctors tell us that there is damage to the brain, but they won't know the extent until my father regains consciousness. He is non responsive to voices and the little movements that he makes that doctors tell us that those are just reflex actions. What can we expect from all this? should we get a second opinion?
Avatar f tn These sensations may be due to many factors, including damage to the sensory regions of the brain, stiff joints, spastic muscles, or a disabled limb. An uncommon type of pain resulting from stroke is called central stroke pain or central pain syndrome (CPS). CPS results from damage to an area of the brain called the thalamus, which is involved with sensory perception and movement.
Avatar f tn Radiation causes calcification of the basal ganglia and stroke causes damage to them .
783212 tn?1295028006 Ischemic injury would be like a very tiny stroke, I think. Very slight bleeding. My first neuro issue was diagnosed for a while as a Temporary Ischemic Attack (TIA), and felt like (I'm told) a stroke. As for your second question, I think there is no difference between small vessel disease and small vessel changes. And I've been told by a number of doctors that small vessel damage in the brain is fairly common in MRIs, particularly in older people.
Avatar f tn you could get sun poisoning or heat stroke.. and ive been told not to take too hot baths because it can over heat baby and cause brain damage.. idk how true that is but its probably the same for the sun but if you wear sun block, stay hydrated &; dont stay too long you should be fine.
1296191 tn?1280699873 Damage to the hypothalamus can occur from a brain infection (meningitis or encephalitis), or a poisoning. When the weather turns warmer, there is a danger of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. During heat stroke, the body loses the ability to cool itself and control body temperature, and brain damage can result. It is very important to remain well hydrated and cool during extreme temperatures. Another major concern for parents are febrile seizures (convulsions).
Avatar f tn He suffered a stroke approximately 3 months after his birth. The MRI shows extensive damage to his brain. His therapist mentioned that he might have sensory damage which is characterized by the clinching of his hands, holding onto the spoon when he is fed, & sensitivity to his feet. He clasps onto your finger & holds on. Is it possible that he may not have the sensory damage?
Avatar m tn s actually someone like a real stroke but heat stroke or heat exhaustion affects the brain in a different way and the ongoing symptoms are related to the body's reaction to heat or sun. Not everyone experiences ongoing sensitivity, and yours may ease off. But in my case, it was permanent. I remember those two incidents very well to this day, man I was sick (unbelievable). So in a way I am not surprised.
Avatar f tn As with heart attack, ive heard your CK level can increase with stroke, in his case heat stroke, as well.. am i correct? Because i do believe that he may have had a heat stroke.. and i wonder if the doctors believed that as well since they ordered a CK test. While researching, i read that the test is ordered if patient had a heart attack, stroke, or something else. But, after seeing his CK level.. You would think the doctors would take further action..
Avatar m tn My partner collapsed , dizziness, fainting and vomiting. a few days ago, she was taken to the hospital where they told her that due to her high blood pressure problem, she had damaged her brain ?
Avatar f tn To me what you are describing whilst exercising (running), wouldn't actually be unexpected, if you are also getting hot and sweating more readily even when your not running. You'd be hitting heat exhaustion/heat stroke territory a lot faster than normal, if your body already isn't cooling through your skin properly, the addition of running would be demanding oxygen goes to the muscles in your legs and away from your skin.
Avatar f tn Thank you for responding to my question. I talked with another doctor on Justanswer and apparently my stroke was a "mini stroke" or TIA. It wasn't as deep in the brain as yours was so it didn't cause any problems. They still didnn't say why I have the dizziness though. So I guess I'll just have to learn to live with it.. Thanks for the tip about the stomach muscles --I;ll be trying it. Hope things have gotten better for you .
Avatar f tn Hi, I can appreciate your concern. From your MRI findings of brain it is evident that you have suffered ischemic damage which makes you more at risk of stroke. However if you modify your dietary habits, do regular physical exercise and keep your BP and sugar levels in control the risk of stroke will be reduced. Please follow the advice of your PCP and get all the blood tests done, take zocor regularly to keep your cholesterol levels under control. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn My fiance was hit in the eye at work and went blind for about 6 months , now she can see , after that she had a very small stroke after test said there was very little bleeding in the brain that she would recover , well she is now paralyzed from the waist down and her left arm so my question is could all of this have been caused from trauma to her eye.... And if you could point me in the right direction to the right forum so I maybe can re-post this there...
Avatar n tn I suppose anything can be faked, what does the nuerologist say? If there is no evidence of any Brain Damage, then who knows?
Avatar f tn Your posting made me think about my own stroke at age 56, totally out of the blue. The bottom line here is: A stroke is something that can damage your sense of judgement or awareness of what is going on. So it is very important that the people around you notice odd behavior and get you to a hospital ASAP. They really recommend that you call an ambulance. If you can get to the hospital for treatment within 3 hours, they can help you.
Avatar f tn They associate with brain damage such as global atrophy and other features of small vessel brain damage, with focal progressive visible brain damage, are markers of underlying subvisible diffuse brain damage, and predict infarct growth and worse outcome after large artery stroke. They could be considered as the neuroimaging marker of brain frailty." (Wardlaw et al.
Avatar f tn It sounds like you are getting dehydrated and almost a heat stroke. Try to keep very hydrated and don't stay in the car long without AC. Bring water and a wet wash cloth to keep cool. You may want to get your blood electrolytes take (sodium , potassium, chloride and CO2) to see if you have a imbalance of these. You can also drink gatoraide and a banana to try to increase your potassium.
Avatar n tn If you want to have an interesting discussion with the doctor Ask him/her for a three dimensional map of the damage and what functions they controlled. Once the stroke is over damage does not progress, it may seem that way as additional deficits are noticed as the survivors try to do something new.
Avatar m tn The severity of cerebral ischemia, caused by arterial obstruction, and the duration of blood-flow loss in the brain determine the extent of brain damage. There could be temporary dysfunction of the neurons or there may be irreversible damage to nerve cells sensitive to minute changes in oxygen levels. Cerebral infarction can cause severe damage to extensive areasof brain.. Refer http://www.answers.com/topic/hypoxia for more info.
Avatar f tn or reconnect new pathways after stroke damage. Since it is now almost four years after his stroke, and he did the prescribed rehab at the time, we will persevere with hope and watchful reading. Having attention paid to my question was very gratifying. Thank you again.
