Avatar f tn Dogs can get heat exhaustion and heat stroke just like people, and heat stroke can be fatal without immediate medical support. It's so easy to forget proper hydration and cooling during the beginning of the summer months. I'm guilty of that myself. Living in a sub-tropical region and being sensitive to heat, I have to force water and Gatorade down my throat regularly if I'm outside.
Avatar f tn Neglect normally takes days, weeks or even months to kill the dogs - watch any resuce show and you see the horrible conditions that dogs have survived in for months.
927213 tn?1270011366 t know. Did she have any symptoms of heat exhaustion going alongside this weakness in her legs? (Such as: heavy panting/breathing TOO deeply/salivation/distress of any kind?).....[later stages include: dry gums as the heat prostration progresses, weakness, confusion or inattention, vomiting or diarrhea and sometimes bleeding. As the condition progresses towards heat prostration or heat stroke there may be obvious paleness or graying to the gums.
Avatar n tn It sounds like your dog is suffering from heat exhaustion, so make sure she has access to plenty of fresh water. Heat exhaustion can quickly go to full-blown heat stroke which can be fatal if not treated. Hosing her down with the water hose in the heat of the day or after a walk will help. I recall my boss from several years ago who had an Italian Greyhound who nearly died of heat stroke here in Texas.
436837 tn?1293793226 I do know that dogs do not sweat but cool down by panting and get rid of the heat that way.But if you did not get her inside she would get sunstroke.I do not know who is more of a twit .....Lazy or your husband lol.
Avatar m tn You might be losing too many salts due to sweating and on that exhaustion episode might have lost minerals in salts. You have to rehydreate yourself with water and salts. Measure your blood pressure and keep it in normal range and go for testing of your minerals. Take care!
Avatar f tn Today my boyfriend and I were outside playing with his dogs and suddenly I got a hot flash, felt really tired and my legs and hands were shaky. I am on my period so I wasn't sure if it was because of that or something else. If somebody could give me an idea of what they think it could be please let me know!!
Avatar f tn I have read several commments regarding heat stroke/exhaustion. No one has mentioned swelling. If I exert myself when temps are hot and humidity high, my face and ears swell up. They itch and are bright red. The only thing that seems to help is a steroid shot and prednisone pack. My face and ears will peel almost like a sunburn. Does this happen to anyone out there? If I sweat during the night I will get itchy. Gold Bond medicated powder helps tremendously.
Avatar f tn Dehydration can cause nausea and lead to a vicious cycle where the dehydration and heat do lead to heat exhaustion because the nausea prevents the intake of fluids which just adds to the dehydration and leads to the body getting hotter and hotter.
Avatar f tn A year ago I believe I suffered some heat exhaustion/stroke and since then, when i start getting hot during activities, i get chills up and down my spine, arms and legs. My calf muscle on my left side will tingle/becomes numb, i get dizzy , my face gets red, i can feel my heart pounding in my head and my breathing is rapid but shallow and i have trouble regulating it for a few minutes. It scares me.
Avatar m tn i was walking in the sun for probably 3 hours it was very hot 46 c this day, suddenly i felt my heart is racing and beating so fast with 3 ectopic beats in very few second, i stopped and put my hand on my heart it was beating too fast and strong, i cooled myself down and drank some fluids it all went back to normal(but the ectopic beats lasted for a week), went to a cardiologist he said i'm fine and it's just heat exhaustion, is it AFib or just palpitations with heat exhaustion?
Avatar m tn It has really interfered with my ability to think clearly and lucidly. Is it possible that these car naps caused me to have some sort of heat exhaustion damage to my brain? Even if I were extremely exhausted, would my body be alerted out of sleep when the temperature or CO2 level gets too high before any damage to my nervous system begins? I have been to a neurologist several years ago and he says that eventually the headaches will go away.
Avatar f tn Hi, It is good that you are feeling better already. Heat-related illness such as heat exhaustion occurs when your body gets too hot. This can be caused by physical exercise or hot weather. It can present with heavy sweating, feeling weak, dizziness, nausea, headache, fast heartbeat and dark-colored urine, which indicates dehydration. It is important that you get out of the heat quickly. Drink plenty of water or other fluids.
Avatar f tn I am from Arizona and before that I lived in South Carolina so I am used to heat and I know what heat exhaustion feels like and this was like nothing I have experienced before. I had only been outside for about an hour when all of a sudden I got very nauseous and felt a little lightheaded so I went to sit down and within a couple minutes I started seeing white patches in my vision and I could barely see at all.
725621 tn?1314843247 She is feeling just fine, however it would be much healthier for her in general if you were to have her spayed as soon as she is over her heat cycle is over and her body returns to normal. Dogs come into season twice a year, and it takes about a month for all the blood vessels in and around the uterus to return to their normal size after the cycle ends.
Avatar m tn I drink a lot of water but when I go for a walk I get heat exhaustion dry mouth pell wight skin need to sit-down fast but I don't walk that much the wether her is 85 and I'm only 27 no I don't take any meds drugs or alcohol Is it heat exhaustion
82861 tn?1333453911 Heat stroke can strike very quickly and with no real warning unless you know what to look for. If the National Weather Service issues a heat advisory, heat watch or heat warning, treat your pets the same way you would treat yourself and stay inside with the air conditioner. Limit outdoor time and keep activity to a minimum, particularly in the afternoon hours. Be cool!
Avatar f tn I have posted on a number of forums, and I have been told that the kind of doctor I need to see is a neuro-diagnostician, but I don't know. Hope someone here can help. Two years ago, I gained about 85lbs. in a very short span of time, this has happened to me twice before in my lifetime, and no doctor has ever figured out what was wrong with me. Now, my whole body is falling apart, and I was a very active, healthy person until just recently, (within the last 6 months).
