Avatar n tn is there ANYTHING at all I can do to relieve the muscle cramps until they find my true illness? Neurologists, rheumatolists (at Uchicago or Mayo Clinic cant find any other cause for my cramping). In hypothyroid should I have had light cramping all over my body to start, or is it common to start in the legs and then later on spread to the arms, back etc? I have hd cold intolerance for 6 years but just this past year heat became even worse. Is heat intolerance possible for hypothyroid?
529159 tn?1224991026 I get these muscle cramps, but in my arms. I know exactly what you mean and how excruicating it is!!! I literally will take my knuckles and dig into my arms. I know it sounds nuts and my husband looks at me like I am, but it is the only thing that helps, although technically, it really doesn't. Those are the days the pain meds are maxed out! I have also had my electrolite levels all checked and they were -surprise- normal.

I have a huge spasm across my back, over my ribs, which started this morning, when i was just sitting in a chair drinking coffee.

Avatar n tn Albumin substitution was found to decrease muscle cramps (2). In an uncontrolled study, zinc sulfate 220 mg/d improved cramps in 10/12 patients; in 7 they disappeared completely (6). Vitamin E has been used (5) as well as antispasmodics (4). Although used frequently, magnesium was not useful in a double-blind crossover trial in patients with nocturnal leg cramps not related to liver disease (3). Good luck and hang in there.
Avatar f tn And my GP has recently put me on vitamin D. She said that a vitamin D deficiency could cause increased muscle pain and cramps, but I have yet to see any real improvement. I have also heard that soaking in a hot Epsom salt bath can help. Something about absorbing minerals or something from it.

Avatar f tn Hello, Are you experiencing a lot of pain from the BFS? I have been on Neurontin before for nerve damage in my spine and have heard it can cause muscle cramps in some people. I have also heard, and I don't usually sway people in this direction on MedHelp, but Opiates, such as Oxycontin, are very helpful for your condition. I am assuming you are speaking of Benign fasciculation syndrome? Correct?
Avatar f tn Ellen, Muscle cramps are a common complication of cirrhosis. About half of all persons with cirrhosis experience muscle cramps. Muscle cramps are related to the duration of cirrhosis and the severity of liver damage. The exact reason for leg cramps is unknown. More study must be done in this area before we have a real solution for at least most sufferers. It's cause is probably multiple factors. So there is no one effective treatment for cramps.

Avatar n tn for one year, off and on, I have been experiencing cramps of the femoral nerve. The pain is incredible when a big cramp attacks. It is not in the muscle. That is when I was told it was an inflammed femoral nerve and was prescribed prednisone and though the severity of the cramps lessened, they are begining to return and gradually increasing in pain and frequency. Massage, heat, stretching and 'Tens' units do not seem to give relief.
