Avatar n tn Dear dhavalss, There are several different chemotherapy regimens that might be used for treatment of breast cancer. The decisions about further treatment will take into account what treatment she has had in the past, her overall health, the characteristics of the cancer. There is not one specific regimen used to treat hormone receptor negative and HER2 negative breast cancer.
Avatar n tn So if the liver lesion represents cancer - we are looking at first-line chemotherapy for advanced/metastatic disease. This means that the chemotherapy that would likely be recommended would be conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy with or without avastin. Drugs like Tarceva do have known benefit in the 2nd-line setting. Whether it is better than other 2nd line agents is uncertain.
Avatar f tn When does your mom start treatment? Best wishes to her! I hope she does well on this treatment, and gets a good long remission!
Avatar f tn The treatment prescribed by your Oncologist is formulated to be the best for your specific case. Chemotherapy is always matched to the particular cancer to give the best results possible. If you are not comfortable with the opinion of your Oncologist then by all means get a second opinion. Regards ...

540822 tn?1313086322 The side effects may be different with each person. I lost my hair after the second treatment. I would be fine the day after treatment but then on the third day I would have very bad leg cramps and pretty much sleep around the clock for three days. I couldn't eat much. I only got sick if I took the pain medicine for my leg cramps though thanks to the pills I was given. I would start feeling a little better a few days before it was time for another treatment.
Avatar n tn s are saying that the only treatment is chemotherapy and even with that the life expectancy is only about a year. Is this right? Is there any other treatment available in this case? In clinical trials, these events occurred throughout the course of treatment and in some cases resulted in fatality. Avastin therapy should be permanently stopped in people with GI perforation. Wound healing complication: Treatment with Avastin can lead to slow or incomplete wound healing (for example, when a surgical incision has trouble healing or staying closed).
2059648 tn?1439766665 the drugs used for hcv treatment are immunotherapy rather than chemotherapy and are used in combination with chemo/radiation therapy for some cancers-melanoma being the one that springs to mind. There seems to be more info out there about melanoma post treatment issues that usually relate to the interferon rather than the chemo drugs.Having watched close friends and family members go through chemo I would say that the hcv drugs affect your personality and brain function more.
Avatar f tn My oncologist originally recommended AC every 3 weeks for 4 cycles, and Taxol for 12 weeks on a weekly basis; I objected to the 12 weeks of Taxol, and now he recommends TAC treatment for 6 cycles, mainly, I understand, because of the high Oncotype score, which he feels puts me at high risk even though I am node negative. I am really unsure if this is overkill--should I seek a 2nd opinion? I am concerned about toxicity, and of course, quality of life issues. thanks for your input.
Avatar f tn Is there any type of chemotherapy treatment which would involve a shot to the abdomen? I'm not referring to the IP treatment, but simply a quick injection. Doesn't chemotherapy need to go into the veins? In the case of ovarian cancer, is there a topical chemo that can be applied & if so would that require surgery or an injection? My daughter in law is getting a weekly abdominal shot, supposedly for stage 2 ovarian cancer, but I'm not confident about this treatment.

Avatar n tn Just as an FYI, there is an MD who is very very good at explanations on chemotherapy and answers quickly. He is located on the Expert Forum, under Ovarian Cancer and a subtitle of chemotherapy. His name is Kamal Saini, MD and at this moment, he is pictured to the right of this message under "Expert Activity. He would be one very good source of information from the chemotherapy standpoint. 506477 tn?1225515279 I have seen it in patients undergoing chemotherapy or who have just finished chemotherapy. It can be due to drugs prescribed to the patients, due to hormonal changes in the body from the surgery and chemotherapy, or due to the stresses of the treatment on organ functions (such as on the heart or the kidneys.) And I have seen patients simply gain significant amounts of weight after ending the grueling process of chemotherapeutic treatment (their taste and appetite returns.

469905 tn?1214169181 Dear Ray515, There are several different chemotherapy regimens that might be used for treatment of breast cancer. What treatment regimen is used would depend on many factors. The medications that are FDA approved that target the HER2 receptor specifically are trastusumab (Herceptin) or lapatinib (TYKERB). If, when and for how long they might be used for would depend on the specific situation. The medical oncologist would be best able to answer your questions for an individual situation.

These treatments are just aweful. 3 days straight of Topo, the first day with the cispaltin and avastin. - every 4 weeks. i am wondering how many more of these I can withstand and if this might be th end of an 8 year journey. After a week i have tons of energy and feel great, then the treatment just knocks the heck out of me. Anything else out there to feel optimistic about?
