heartburn

Avatar f tn Because I know my mother does have symptoms. Many nights she complains of having heartburn and every so often, she will wake up coughing from it. Usually bending over or something of that nature will bring up some acid (I have that problem as well).
3777851 tn?1348968120 I have all the MS symptoms. I have awful GERD as well as dysphagia. I have had a swallow test, as well as an endoctomy. After the endoctomy they tried five different PPI's. None helped the dysphagia, however I found that if I stay of the prescription Prilosec, I no longer take tums at all. I used to take them an awful lot at night. I strongly reccommend you try it. It's best to take at least a half hour before you eat.
Avatar f tn I asked GI MD if I could get a fundiplication to stop the continuous heartburn to protect my fragile esophagus from the acid. The PPI's I take (and many OTC heartburn meds) barely stop the heartburn for 1/2 a day and I am concerned about long term affects from the acid. I went to an allergist and was told I am not allergic to any foods but was put on fluticisone to decrease the swelling (which did not work so now I am on prednisone).
Avatar n tn I have been living with heartburn for a long time now an have seen a doctor about it Im going back to doctor again an hoping to have the scope put down to find out what it is, could it be a ulcer? or something worse thats coursing this for me...
Avatar f tn I decided to go off the medication after about 6 months and the heartburn came back so I was sent for a scope. The scope came back clear, no damage to esophagus or no signs of barretts. The recommendation from the gastroenterologist was to go back on nexium for 3 months and them use as needed. That was 5 years ago and I have been keeping the reflux under control since with combinations of ppis, Zantac and any antacids. Ocassionally I would have a flair up when I stopped the meds.
Avatar m tn They are pretty much the same as GERD, such as heartburn and back flow of acid. You may also have peptic ulcers of the esophagus, or stricture caused by scarring. Because the symptoms are much like GERD it's imperative that you see you doctor on a regular basis. Hope this helps.
Avatar n tn Is it safe to take Prevacid 24 hr. for heartburn if you are on a beta blocker, Atenolol? I am asking for my daughter who is 28 yrs. old.
9062499 tn?1426957962 Trouble swallowing could be a result of heart burn. Heartburn, which is your stomach acid making it up into your esophagus, can cause your esophagus to tighten or "swell" which can cause the issue of trouble swallowing. Your esophagus is a muscle.
Avatar n tn For over a year now I have had a sensation/noise. At first I thought that it was in my head behind my left ear. I told my doctor and she ordered a CT. Everything was fine. My blood pressure was high so she gave me a prescription. After a month or two we did a follow up. I told her that I had been having bad heartburn (and hadn't thought to tell her about it the first visit). She then switched the blood pressure medicine and prescribed Prilosec.
Avatar n tn I drank a lot of self made wine for several days (sometimes on empty stomach too) and one day, along with overeating with a lot of grilled and spicy food, I got this strong heartburn and burning sensation along my esophagus and stomach that lasted for three days (20th – 22nd of Jan). I stopped drinking and after that the heart burn was gone except for a strange feeling (like something is stuck in the throat/esophagus).
Avatar m tn Hi, your symptoms could be due to reflux of acid into the esophagus, which can cause the burning sensation. Heartburn and GERD are interchangeable, heartburn is more of an acute disorder and GERD is chronic. GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease), where the acid contents of the stomach came up into the esophagus. A hiatal hernia occurs when part of your stomach pushes upward through your diaphragm. This can also cause burning and pressure sensation in the chest.
Avatar f tn Therefore, if the acid passes quickly through the esophagus but pools in the throat, heartburn symptoms will not occur but LPR symptoms will.
Avatar f tn Over the past few days, I now feel these sensations and sharp pains on both sides of my sternum and even more into the upper chest/shoulder area. I have no heartburn or pain in my esophagus. Do you have any suggestions for me? Any clue as to what could be causing this? Would you recommend I see a pulmonologist or a GI dr?
Avatar m tn This still might be GERD. Many have non-traditional symptoms such as a lack of well-known 'heartburn' symptom. And food doesn't have to come back up if someone has GERD. If you're having a feeling on 'stuck in the esophagus,' check with your doc. It could be due to reflux into the esophagus that can cause issues with movement of food throught the esophagus, or problems with the muscular contractions of the esophagus.
6765322 tn?1395814235 Milk and Tums work for me - especially the milk. The dairy coats the inside of your esophagus and creates a "barrier" of sorts between your esophagus and the stomach acid that causes heartburn. It doesn't work for everyone, but its worth a shot...
Avatar m tn But a large hiatal hernia can allow food and acid to back up into your esophagus, leading to heartburn and chest pain. Self-care measures or medications can usually relieve these symptoms, although a very large hiatal hernia sometimes requires surgery. [SYMPTOMS] Small hiatal hernias Most small hiatal hernias cause no signs or symptoms.
Avatar f tn I only get this pain when I swallow something, but I also feel like I might have heartburn further up my esophagus (not sure what this feels like as I have never had it before), which is worse when I take a deep breath. I have been taking antacids, which do not help with the pain. I have noticed a similar sharp stabbing pain in my lower back recently, and a dry cough. I have had these symptoms for 4 days, getting worse each day.
8650265 tn?1421565413 Its kind of what it sounds like, its a burning in your esophagus, also acid from your stomach will inevitably come into your mouth. It tastes nasty and it hurts. I've gotten to the point, at 35 weeks, where nothing helps anymore. If you do get it talk to your provider they will often prescribe something hinges thats safe for bub.
Avatar f tn Hi I was wondering what the syptoms of Gerd are? I suffer with acid reflux, heartburn, just recently I've been suffering with a pain that comes and goes at the top of my abdomen just below my ribs.
Avatar f tn t get the full blown heartburn but I get the pain where my stomach and esophagus meet. It *****.
Avatar f tn I keep havin heartburn everyday for the last year; i take atums and it gets rid of it. But i'm wondering what could cause it because i get it everyday regardless of what i eat.
1328636 tn?1389367392 I also have reflux & went undiagnosed for years because I had NO symptoms. By the time I developed symptoms (minor chest pain & occasional discomfort when swallowing), I already had Barrett's Esophagus. Barrett's is when the acid backing up into your esophagus causes the cells in your esophagus to change from normal cells to precancerous cells.
Avatar n tn s possible. Typically heartburn in pregnancy is caused because hormones relax the valve in your esophagus that keeps the acids down. It really isn't because of baby or what you eat. Those thing just make it worse later.
Avatar f tn Is it true that the more heartburn you get means the babies hair is dark?
531005 tn?1286515532 While GERD is not curable, per se, there are a lot of things you can do to cope with the condition. Most importantly, adhering to a GERD diet (you can find examples on the web), losing weight, lowering stress levels, laughing a lot, eating more low-fat proteins, and exercising will all help control the condition, in essence (though not in fact) making it "go away".
Avatar f tn So I am having the worse case of heartburn. I always get horrible heartburn late at night like this. I have no meds and I have tried yogurt (yoplait wildberry) and I think the fruit contains acid. I heard milk coats the throat and soothes the pain but I have never been a white milk drinker... unless in cereal. But I do have chocolate syrup to make chocolate milk... will that work just as well?
