heartburn

1707824 tn?1307891775 GERD is heartburn and not all patients actually feel symptoms of heartburn but only suffer from this mysterious cough. Because I am not a physician only a Medical Assistant I can give you treatment advice. However, try some OTC (over the counter) medications for heartburn for 2-3 weeks and see if that helps. Prior to trying anything always consult your physician to make sure that it is safe for you to take.
Avatar f tn I had something similar, I started choking for no reason, from a sip of a drink or even my own saliva! I just had to be more careful, might have something to do with heartburn which I didn't know I had until it started burning. Now I am careful to avoid heartburn as much as possible ( don't lie down agree eating, eat smaller meals, using Tums) but still choke once in a while but much better now.
Avatar f tn I have no other symptoms, no stuffy nose, no sore throat, no fever, etc. I cough so often, maybe every 2-3 minutes. I barely sleep because I'm coughing. I am almost 29 weeks pregnant, have heartburn so bad I try to sleep sitting up and I have an umbilical hernia that hurts like hell every time I cough, I poke it back in. Anyone have any clue what this is from?

Avatar f tn One cause of heartburn is celiac disease. This and lethargy were the ONLY symptoms my coworker was having. She's about 50 I guess. Her doctor checked her labs and she was positive for celiac disease. She had low levels of vitamin D and some other vitamins and minerals. No heartburn medicines were helping. Upper and lower endoscopy were done, and upper endoscopy showed the damage from the celiac disease. She went gluten-free.
Avatar f tn a mild constant cough (it was as if I wanted to cough things out a little and was unable to) and a sore throat. And my heartburn is eased when I drink chamomile tea but beyond that it's very unpredictable - some foods work great on some days but on others, I get heartburn. On the other hand, low stomach acidity also fits in a sense.
396332 tn?1320003615 Chronic acid reflux leads to uncomplicated GERD, but not everyone with GERD has heartburn. The primary symptoms of GERD are heartburn, regurgitation, and nausea. Heartburn usually is described as a burning pain in the middle of the chest. It may start high in the abdomen or may extend up into the neck. Sometimes the pain may be sharp or pressure-like, rather than burning. Such pain can mimic heart pain (angina). In other patients, the pain may extend to the back.

Avatar f tn Week 5 at 36yo. I started to cough a lot with sour taste on the back of my throat. I feel like this symptom gets worse with certain positions like lying down. I couldn't take a nap today because of this symptom. Lots of lots of lots of burping n frequent hiccups. I can't tell if this cough is related to heartburn or actual cold (my family member has a bad cold...) I've been very careful not to catch with frequent hand washing, hydration, eating balanced meals n so on.
Avatar m tn With laryngopharyngeal reflux, you may not have the classic symptoms of GERD, such as a burning sensation in your lower chest (heartburn). That's why it can be hard to diagnose and is sometimes called silent reflux.
Avatar f tn Hi, There are a few symptoms of GERD which are not related to esophagus and these include cough, sore throat, horaseness of voice , dental erosions etc. Prilosec is a safe medication which provides wonderful relief from GERD symptoms. The only time it should not be taken is when women who takes it get pregnant. ================================================================ The information provided is for patients’ education only and is not a medical advice.
Avatar f tn Can you suffer from LPR without experiencing any heartburn or other GERD symptoms? Yes! Many people with LPR do not have symptoms of heartburn. Why? In order for refluxed acid to cause heartburn, it has to stay in the esophagus long enough to cause irritation. Also, the esophagus isn't as sensitive to irritation as the throat is. Therefore, if the acid passes quickly through the esophagus but pools in the throat, heartburn symptoms will not occur but LPR symptoms will.
Avatar m tn m on the highest dose of Losec. The cough has gone away but I still get acid reflux and the occasional heartburn. Went off of Losec for 2 weeks as per dr's suggestion to see if it was doing anything and I got horrible heartburn. I've also changed my diet and am now dairy, citrus, spice, chocolate, caffeine free. It's been hard but it's made it better. I also take Gaviscon as it is better than Maalox. The liquid as bad as it is works better too.
Avatar n tn Yes, it *is* definitely possible. There is something called silent acid reflux, where you have reflux but don't feel any heartburn symptoms. For the first year I had acid reflux, this is what I had, and my only symptom was a persistent cough that never went away, plus a propensity for getting bronchitis with high frequency. When my reflux is bad, the acid gets into my lungs and causes me to cough.
Avatar f tn yesterday i had bad diarrhea but it stopped by itself , when i woke up this morning i wokeup with a runny nose and all other symptoms of common cold.. in addition to sever heartburn.. i only took panadol for the cold but it didn't work, i need some cold medication safe during pregnancy as well as something for the heartburn..
Avatar m tn It is possible that heartburn is the cause of your cough but burning can be a pretty non-specific symptom and we should not assume that that is what is going on. The most important thing is to work with your doctor, to attempt to find the cause of the cough. A new onset cough, especially in the absence of the signs and symptoms of a Cold, must be taken seriously by both you and your doctor(s).
Avatar f tn I have a cough from a leftover illness that I have had since Xmas. Now the heartburn is causing me to cough also. My c section is the 13th and I am scared I will still have the cough with staples in my stomach...yikes!
Avatar f tn I had gall bladder surgery 7 months ago but since then I have a chronic cough and mucous. Worse in the mornings. When I cough hard or sniff hard I have a thudding sound between the chest where an incision was made during the lap surgery.Have had a ct of the abdomen to check for trapped stones but I feel I have GERD even though I have been on 20mg nexium for over a year now. I constantly have to clear my throat and sometimes get a slight case of heartburn but not too often.
Avatar m tn Constantly getting mucous up from throat but no cough. No heartburn. Very tired. Seen 4 doctors so far, Seeing ENT in 2 weeks. Anyone have similar symptoms?
Avatar f tn None of us have heartburn, or any other symptoms. No headache, no sore throat, no stomach aches, just a cough as described above.
Avatar f tn Need help ASAP I'm 32 wks and been gettin terrible heartburn for bout a week now its unbearable and makes me cry I've tried rennie but not working. pls advice needed.
Avatar m tn Yes! It all started a week ago and it's so bad. I have a doctors appt next Monday but since I couldn't get in until then the doctor called me and told me to start taking Nexium, which is now over te counter. I started it two days ago and he said it may take 5 days before I feel a difference if it is what he thinks it is. He told me it's the exact symptoms of LPR, which is basically "silent reflux".
