Heartburn or a heart attack

Common Questions and Answers about Heartburn or a heart attack

heartburn

Avatar n tn It could be. I was talking to one of my friends who is only 15. He describes that he gets the exact same thing on occasion. We seem to agree that when we breathe in it hurts so we have to breathe in slightly and breathe out more until the sharp pain subsides, which is usually after about a minute. Honestly, I'm pretty convinced now that it's heartburn since my friend described that he gets it too.
1814992 tn?1316890851 The symptoms are very similar to that of a heart attack and very uncomfortable. What helps me are things like maalox, nexium, tums or some form of an antacid. When you feel them coming on-sit up and if you can, try raising your bed up a little at night so the acid doesn't come up into your esophagus. If it makes you feel any better at all, I've had a heart attack and although everyone's symptoms are different, I had NONE of those.
Avatar f tn I got into the bathroom and I did throw up. Is this acid reflux or possible heart attack. This is the first time this happened, the heartburn went away right after.
Avatar f tn No one here can tell you if you are having a heart attack or not. If you are in doubt, take action and let a medical professional tell you what's going on. It's not worth taking a risk, go get checked and be safe. You could wait for an answer here until it's too late.
Avatar f tn Now, I do have acid reflux but it was not heartburn I really panicked there and started to think this is it I am having a heart attack..Ι got a coca cola and started burping. But I have never felt tight chest before so worried. Didn't have any other symptoms with the tightness and pulse / oxygen etcc was very normal. should I go to the cardiologist again?? (Was ok 3 months ago).
Avatar n tn Does this sound like heart attack symptoms? I have been put on a prescription for beta blocker and given nitro spray, had an ecg, chest xray and blood tests but still waiting for results.
Avatar n tn It could be your heart, indigestion, etc., but your symptoms could have been a heart attack and a cardiologist would not consider your concern frivolous.
Avatar n tn Anxiety often manifests itself in certain body parts, and each person with anxiety definitely knows where their anxiety likes to attack. Anxiety frequently creates a "pins and needles" or breaking feeling in bones or muscles. Restlessness and twitching may occur, too. I advise practicing some easy breathing techniques and a little trick called "tapping" that you can look up on the internet.
428185 tn?1203741789 I think he is refering to a type of heart attack in which your heart either stops suddenly or goes into a type of V-tach from which there is no recovery unless you have help immediately. Both of these are dure to electrical problems with the heart and not usually due to CAD. I hope everything works out for you!
1547952 tn?1293907781 It would really take a stress echo, where they speed your heart up with drugs. I had one of these a few years back, and they slowly increased the drugs, speeding up my heart. One Nurse watched the monitor while the technician did the scanning. They increased the drugs until I felt the symptoms and voila, the problem showed on the scan. As soon as the images were taken, the drug was stopped and within 2 mins my heart was back to normal rate again.
Avatar f tn I've been having really bad chest pain all night I can't sleep because of it. It's so hard to breath it feels like a stabbing pain I'm 32+3 weeks I've been trying to wait till my doctors office opens but is getting worst I have never in my life had pain like this and it's starting to scare me. Has anyone else experienced pain like this.
Avatar f tn i am no doctor, but I have had 5 near fatal heart attacks since August of 07, the last 4 since July. I can only tell you what my symptoms were and hope that it helps. To be sure, if you have chest pain and think you're having a heart attack, get to the E.R. as quickly as possible. Better safe than sorry! The first one I had was while I was in the Healthcare for Homeless Veterans program.
Avatar m tn I have a bad history of anxiety and depression and was hospitalized about 15 odd times for thinking I was having a heart attack or stroke, all tests were normal. Because of my concerns, I was sent to a cardiologist in 2013 to get a stress and echo test. Both of which came back normal. I've lately had really bad heartburn that's not relieved by medicines, even prescription strength dosage of Zintac that was given to me by the doctor.
Avatar m tn Ask your doctor to send you to a cardiologist for a halter monitor. It records everything your heart does in a 24 hour period so a cardiologist can analyze it. It could be a small thing like GERD or a mineral deficiency (iron, potassium, magnesium), or it could be something serious that you need to know about. At the very least, it sounds like arrythmia.
Avatar f tn Sorry made me stop too many characters. Anyways the heartburn went away within an hour or so. No chest pain during any of this, althought I know you don't have to have chest pain to be having heart issues, just being thorough with my explanations. The day we came home from vacation I had the random left arm pains again and the shoulder blade pain seemed to be back.
Avatar f tn I'm a 34 year old woman (and a smoker, I know it's bad and I am trying to quit) and there's a history of heart disease in my family (my maternal grandmother had her first heart attack at age 28). About 5 days ago I started getting alot of heartburn, 2 days after the heartburn I started experiencing a sudden severe throbbing pain in my left jaw. It wasn't tooth pain and it was deep, not surface pain.
Avatar m tn Acid Reflux Medication Heart Attack Class Action Lawsuit Investigation A recent study found that proton pump inhibitor heartburn treatments such as Nexium, Prilosec and Prevacid may be linked to an increased risk of heart attack, heart failure or sudden cardiac death.
Avatar n tn He took Prilosec OTC once a day prior to his heart attack for heartburn/reflux. Since his heart attack and stent, his heartburn/reflux has become much more frequent and severe. His doctor prescribed Protonix 40 mg once a day, but he still has to take antacids throughout the day to try to control it. Has anyone else experienced this and how did you resolve it?
15695260 tn?1549593113 Knowing the signs of having a heart attack can literally save your life. There are the classic signs such as chest pain or pressure which is the number one signs as well as jaw pain, sweating, heartburn, shortness of breath, jaw pain, toothache, headache, and nausea and vomiting. Women also often have the signs of lightheadedness, nausea, extreme fatigue, fainting, dizziness, or pressure in the upper back.
11306955 tn?1417053458 I do have hiatal hernia , when it acts up, it pushes up into my stomach, causes muscle spasms in the esophagus , pretty much feels like heart attack ! Been ER several occasions !! No fun . Hoping soon my gastro doc't can get this fixed !!!!
Avatar f tn s so bad that I get a new, completely different ache in my chest, shoulder and jaw, which feels more like what I imagine a heart attack would feel like than heartburn. Feels a bit like a lump moving too, and the pressure is bad but it goes away with heartburn treatment so I assume it's heartburn related...
Avatar f tn Winnie, under the circumstances I would call a cardiologist (or at least your family doctor) immediately. The increasingly bad symptoms, especially the heartburn, can mean an approaching heart attack. My father was 44 when he had "stomach" problems, and soon died of a heart attack. I am 52, have normal blood pressure, pulse, ECG, etc., but have been having the classic symptoms of stable angina over the last few weeks (and less frequent symptoms for much longer).
Avatar m tn Any jaw pain? Left arm pain ? Neck pain? Those are other signs for a heart attack... I know this sounds funny but it sounds like gastritis/indigestion:) He could try to take a prilosec ... or other heartburn indigestion medication :) good luck!
