Heartburn left arm pain

Common Questions and Answers about Heartburn left arm pain

heartburn

I'm currently on Atenolol for the tachycardia. Anyways, this heartburn pain scares me that it's heart related because of the back and left arm pain, though I had all those cardiac tests come back as negative. Is it possible for heartburn to be so severe that I feel it in my back and left arm as well?
Acid Reflux can mimic Angina, as it can cause chest pain, but it doesn't cause the left arm and hand pain that Angina causes. I'm a veteran of Angina issues and also have had life-long GERD issues. My sister in law is a Naturopath so I tried the digestive enzyme supplements with great expectations of success, but I crashed and burned, so to speak. As she predicted, GERD is such a complicated matter, one must try different routes to find relief.
Tagamet or Cimetidine are 2 over the counter meds that work well for heartburn. Only you know how much pain your in. If you can't stand it, get to the ER.
I, too, have seen a number of docs about my chst pain, left arm pain and jaw pain (oh yeah, and HORRIBLE heartburn that seems to be unrelated to food). All classic symptoms and I am very concerned about it. But, FOUR cardios have found nothing and I have had the full run of tests and then some. My last workup was at the Mayo Clinic and they were VERY thorough! Thank God nothing is wrong with my heart but there is still the chest pain and arm pain both which are pretty bad since yesterday.
Hi I often get a dull pain on the left side of my chest, moving into my arm-pit, radiating into my elbow and causing a feeling of weakness in my fore-arm. Could this just be normal heartburn and how does heartburn cause pain in such an awkward place/way? I get nervous when it comes to chest pains, as I have heart-valve problems and had heart-palpitations last night but because I get a miriad of different aches and pains (especially due to costochondritus) I try not to jump to conclusions.
Last night it happened again, after supper, but this time the pain also went into my left arm down to my elbow. I took the Pepto as before, then started thinking maybe heart? And I knew if I took aspirin it would help the arm pain anyway, so I took two. After awhile I took Tums to stop the heartburn. I felt better after awhile. What could it be? Could it actually be heart-related, or is it just that I'm eating greasy food? Also, I do have a PEG tube I've had since surgery in May.
On 10/31/07 I experienced a frightening event where, when simply leaving for the morning to go to work, I had a crushing pressure in my mid-chest (crushing like an elephant on my chest - no burning), broke out in a sweat, nauseous, dizzy, pain radiated quickly into my left neck and jaw, pounding pain in my left armpit and down the inner part of my left arm, severe pounding in both my femoral arteries (in both upper thighs), and was having trouble breathing.
I have been having pain in my left arm pit and breast and in my shoulder blade. It kinda feels like heart burn but, it is only my left side and at night time it burns really bad. I don't see anything nor do I feel any lumps. Do you know what this might be?
Hi, I am a seventeen year old girl and for the past couple of weeks I've been experiencing chest discomfort, and a pain in my left arm that ranges from dull to sharp. The pain and discomfort also comes and goes. I have also been belching a lot lately (normally, i hardly ever do). The pain and discomfort get worse when I eat. I thought it could have been heartburn, but I don't see how that would explain the pain in my arm. As of yesterday, i also discovered that i had a pain in my left armpit.

So of course (and I KNOW not to do this!!) I google unexplained heartburn and BAM...it's shows women and heart disease. I have had this burning more often than not lately but not for this long without a break. Last night I had I think "mini" panic attacks as the crazy feeling came in waves until I fell asleep praying that it would stop. Anyway, this burning is so bad it is distracting. I can't concentrate on anything.
I have esophagitis and get left side chest pain, shoulder pain and sometimes back and arm pain. I have had an echo, EKG, cardiac enzymes, Chest X-ray etc. All they have found is the espohagitis. At least that has been my experience. I, too, never have any heartburn.
i am having sharp pains under my left arm pit next to the breast going on 3 days. it last for about 30 seconds and comes back every 4-5 minutes. i can't sleep..... i've tried antiacids thinking it was gas or heartburn. i've tried laying down, sitting up...changing everything and nothing is helping. any suggestions This discussion is related to LUQ pain under left arm pit towards chest...Concerned.
Now I have heart palpitations/murmurs every day, there's a constant pain in my chest and left arm, as well as a feeling of numbness similar to when you strike your funny bone in your elbow. I am 19 years old, male, about 280lbs. I've been obese for about 6 years, and I get very little exercise. My family has a long vibrant history of heart disease and high blood pressure.
About a month ago I started having chest pains on the right side of my chest; it began as if I had been punched, and didn't feel like anything internal. The pain gradually began to increase, and in about 3 days it encompassed much of my chest from right to left. I then started to experience numbness in my arms and legs (once in my face) and started to feel faint; it also felt like I would have heart palpitations upon its onset; with these symptoms I blacked out once.
Hi I am 43 year old male and or the last year or so I have been getting a bit of a chest pain in my upper left chest at breast area. I only get pain immediately after eating something (so might get it multiple times per meal) I seem to get it most often when I am eating fast or big bites (or both) It isn't extremely painful, just uncomfortable. And it goes away almost always after a quick stretch of my arms above my head, or some sort of drink.
It never comes with exertion, only at rest, even while sleeping. No pain in the arms. I get sweaty, but can still move around easily. It lasts 5-15 minutes, but the other night it went on forever, and today it feels like muscle strain across my chest. (Since I got the flu last Christmas I feel weak and breathless climbing stairs, and I used to run stairs at our stadium and climb hundreds of steps in our neighborhood - yet I passed the stress test!
Last was awoken by sharp pain in right breast, not heartburn felt more like a growing pain. Then felt sharp pain in right shoulder. Got up took Tylenol, drank water, pain subsided but was left with a dull pain in right arm that has cleared up as of now. Only 6 wks pregnant and read these pains could possibly be signs of an ectopic pregnancy. How likely is this? It is my second pregnancy, and I have no history of miscarriages.
I have been having pains in my left armpit, it feels throbbing and as if its perspiring but it is not. As well as pain in my left breast on the side (by armpit) as well as the upper part of breast. My shoulder and left arm and backside sometimes hurts too. I was told I have anxiety but I never had it like this. I am a type 2 diabetic. I take metformin which I wonder about the side effects. I get these pains constantly. I've gone to the ER, they did EKG and X-rays said I was fine.
Chest pains in the center and left side, pain in my left arm,jaw pain, My right side of my face and eye went numbed I felt electric shock fealings on my fingers My toung felt like it was burning i had blured vision my scalp was numbed acid reflux lots of pain in my upper stomach depression fear no energy. And all the doctors say there is nothing wrong with me. I think thats crazy. I have had this for 6 months I have a hard time working on doing enything.
What i can suggest is that you write down is 1) what have you been doing/eating/ emotionally feeling before the pain started 2) give a descriptiopn of your symptoms, grade the pain from 1-10, note down any breathlessness, nausea, sweating, pale skin/lips, dizziness, note down where the pain raidiates to - is itjust your left arm, or is it your back or your jaw etc..
The pain goes through to my back and at times into my upper left arm. When the pain is in my arm it may last an entire day or two and it feels like my arm is bruised. I also have pinching pains in my chest and almost always constant pain in my upper back. Very little regurgitation..but somedays are really bad. Nothing over the counter works! I have tried Protonix (2x daily), Aciphex, and Prilocec...with no or very little relief.
I have been diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse (not very serious)and I am feeling sharp pain, tingling seseation, and numbness in my armpit, elbow, neck, arm, hand, chest, and a burning sensation in my lungs. The pain I feel most often is in my elbow, aaaarmpit, upper left chest, and a hard time breathing. Also when this is all going on I do get dizzy. I do get indegestion and Heartburn sometimes. Sometimes I also have a hard time breathing and break out in a cold sweat.
for over two weeks i have been experiencing moderate to severe pain in my left pectorals down to my left arm and numb radial fingers. can't hold on to things with my left hand like the right. it began when i woke up from sleeping in a fetal position in a cold room. cant afford an mri. tried stretching, tiger balm, hot/cold h20, seems nerve related because of the numbness. dont know what to do! any suggestions? in pain & dont want to become addicted to pain meds.
I went to the ER when it first started and was really bad. My entire left side was tingling, including the left side of my face, my left arm, leg and foot. It only happens on the LEFT side. When I walked it felt like my left ankle was just going to give out on me, it felt really weak. I was also EXREMELY dizzy. I was admitted and these symptoms were strong and lasted for over a day. I was in the hospital for 2 days and they ran a CT scan, an MRI, blood tests, and all came back negative.
Hi all, So many worried people, sharing similar stories. I think it helps us all though to see other people out there going through the same thing! I'm 31 year old female. Slightly overweight (but working on that!!) for the past few years, was at a healthy weight up to about 5 years ago (work prevented me from exercising, but going to remedy that!) Anyway, I started to get pain in my left arm & leg. Went to my Dr & was told the usual, stress caused by my job.
I have Chill feeling always from the thigh down to my legs coupled with headaches, constant pains around the shoulder area, pains in the arm muscles. I also have pains in the legs and knees as well. I have sinuses that only relieves me when I use nasal spray. This only goes away for a few hours. The sinues has been there for about 4 months now. The pains is the shoulders is very much in the right shoulder. It tends to be worse at night in my sleep. It will wake me up for a long time.
And yes it can feel like heart problems. Chest pain, arm pain, etc. My reflux was so bad the valve between my esophagus and stomach was totally open. Tried all the things like raising head of bed on blocks, sleeping propped up on pillows, etc. To rebuild the valve, they pull up your stomach and wrap it around your esophagus, creating a tight seal to stop the acid from going into my esophagus. It had already started to errod.
Bruce - You say you had left arm weakness. I just started experiencing this, too. Also groin "pain" more like a pulled muscle feeling. The left arm weakness feels heavy and tight and sort of numb but not (sort of like a pinched nerve feeling). Did your Dr. say what the arm symptoms were from? Thanks for any info. Carol D.
