Common Questions and Answers about Heartburn in pregnancy medication

heartburn

Avatar f tn I'm 19 weeks and 5 days pregnant, and I'm having some Hella bad migraines. I also have terrible sinuses, heartburn and I've been physically sick alot, with a fever and what not. I'm allergic to acetmenaphin(tylenol) which is supposedly the only thing I can take while pregnant. My doctor refuses to write me prescriptions for anything else and tells me to deal with it and there's nothing else like aspirin that I can take. She's very rude.
Avatar f tn i would try not taking anything tbh, take a painkiller if its bad but cold remedies arnt good for you, drink lots of water and it will flush the infection out.
9584608 tn?1413678892 Does anybody know if you can take any heartburn medication, besides tums, while pregnant. I think what I'm thinking of is called prilosec or something.
Avatar f tn I suffered with heartburn almost all my pregnancy...I'm so upset I didn't tell my Dr sooner because I thought he would tell me tums or zantac..but he prescribed a medication named pantoprazole sod 40 mg. Girl every since I started it I have had no heartburn at all, not even that gassy bloated feeling I also had...so talk to your Dr about the medication and see what he says. Best wishes.
Avatar f tn Although they may not work for very long periods of time but your OB can recommend a medication that better suits your pregnancy. I had horrible heartburn in my last pregnancy, I would literally choke on pure acid (very gross, I know!) But after I delivered..I had sudden abdominal pain. I ended up having severe gallbladder stones and had my gallbladder removed the next day.
Avatar n tn I was having the nausea problem and my doctor put me on an anti-ulcer/heartburn (even though I did not have heartburn) medication (pantoprazole). After a week the nausea went away. Yes, stress could make this worse. Do get it checked out.
Avatar n tn I had really bad heartburn dusing my last pregnancy and my obstetrician prescribed me something. Sorry I don't remember what it's called but it worked very well. With any medication I would ask the doctor first. There is some conflicting info out there about what is sa fever during pregnancy.
3166744 tn?1357930247 You can take tums but if you want long lasting relief zantac really helps
Avatar f tn im 32wks and i get heartburn like crazy! anything i eat gives it to me... what can i eat to make it go away? with out any medication?
Avatar f tn Heartburn, even if it is severe, is normal for pregnancy. I feel your pain and am so sorry you are having to deal with it :( Talk to your doctor. They can prescribe you medication for it. You can use tums, but that will make you super constipated it you take them too often. Nobody wants that... Good luck! Hope it gets better for you. Getting a prescription was a lifesaver for me.
Avatar f tn I've had outrageous heartburn with this pregnancy. In the beginning milk would work but after a while it got so bad nothing was working. I was even to the point of throwing up stomach acid my heartburn was so bad. I talked to my ob and she actually prescribed me prilosec because zantac wasn't working with this pregnancy like it did with my previous three. I would try tums, rolaids or milk or other remedies before reverting to prescriptions if you aren't big into taking medication.
Avatar f tn I know it's a common problem before and after pregnancy. Hang in there! Avoid fatty foods... like anything!!! with cholesterol.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with acid reflux years ago so I have been on medication for heartburn for quite a while. when I found out I was pregnant the doctor took me off of my medication so the heartburn is back ten times worse due to being pregnant. the doctor told me I can take Tums or Rolaids or Maalox and none of it seems to work, I'm popping Tums and Rolaids every 5 minutes its horrible does anybody have any solutions?
4562329 tn?1363818660 Zantac up to 150 mg twice daily is ok per my pregnancy medication sheet given by my dr, u can check with urs just to make sure it's ok for you as an individual though
Avatar m tn Famotidine has been effective in preventing recurrence of ulcers when given in low doses for prolonged periods of time. Famotidine also is used for treating heartburn and in healing ulceration and inflammation of the esophagus (esophagitis) resulting from acid (gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD). High doses are used for treating conditions in which there are marked increases in acid secretion such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Avatar f tn Had heartburn with each pregnancy, even water gave me heartburn, didn't go away after my 3rd, preggo with my 4th now...it's awful stuff to deal with. I always keep tums and Zantac close by!! Good luck!

568659 tn?1256139982 Just like anit-depresssants(some) are not recommended but the dr prescribes it bcuz it may harm the mom if she stops them and again, go with the low chances of something possibly could happen to baby, but again, going my statics My best friend has high blood pressure, and needed to continue to take her medication while preggo, and the drug was not recommended, dr needed to weigh outcome, take her off the meds, or risk her having a stroke, heart attack or other problems associated with high bl
2097069 tn?1335282883 Thanks everyone. I will try just about anything at this point. I did however just steal some of my son's Nerds and sucked on them and it did help for about 5 minuets. I have a horrible craving for ice water with ice chips in it but its making it worse. And its a pain in the butt cause I've been crushing the ice in the blender just to make the ice chips. Husband said he is sick of hearing the blender all night...
Avatar f tn I'm 32w5d and have been dealing with heartburn most of my pregnancy. I started out taking Tums but those alone didn't help at all. I asked my Dr and she was more than happy to prescribe me some medication...just a small pill that I can swallow with any meal or when I feel it coming on. She also advised me to continue taking at least 2 Tums a day as well, which I do before I go to bed...which is usually when my heartburn is the worst.
Avatar f tn I had it in the beginning but never this late in pregnancy!
Avatar f tn Im due in jan but no heartburn..
