Heartburn causes hiatal hernia

Common Questions and Answers about Heartburn causes hiatal hernia

heartburn

Avatar m tn The tightness is not painful like I could have a heart attack but more irritating. I had surgery for a hiatal hernia and had laparoscopic fundoplication done and I also have scoliosis. I've been to a chiropractor for my tightness to see if that would help but it just came right back. Wonder if this could be related to my scoliosis.
Avatar n tn At times, a hiatal hernia causes chest pain or upper abdominal pain when the stomach becomes trapped above the diaphragm through the narrow esophageal hiatus. It also makes GERD worse. If you feel you may have a hiatal hernia, ask your doctor about either an EGD or a barium swallow test, both of which will show any structural anomalies. Good luck.
11306955 tn?1417053458 t ... said should pretty much go away .. Avatar n tn Yes, I quite frequently get pan in my upper back in between the shoulder blades and up the back of my neck along with severe burning in my throat and I have a small hiatal hernia. In my opinion, a hernia can cause a lot of odd symptoms. There are even times where I feel like I can not breathe efficiently due to the amount of pressure it creates in my upper abdomen and chest.
Avatar f tn My question is what is the difference between a hiatal hernia and a paraesophagial hernia? Do they grow in size and if so could that explain why my cough is back now since they were aware that I had some kind of hernia as shown on my previous scope. If they were to go in and fix the hernia and the Nissen, am I likely to have the same kinds of issues that I experienced with my previous Nissen surgery? Would I be starting all over again?
Avatar m tn //www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hiatal-hernia/diagnosis-treatment/drc-20373385 Hyperplasia of the mucosa can also be caused by some type of obstruction, IE the hernia. If there is an obstructed gastric outflow as a hiatal hernia may cause, that could very well result in these cells. It could also be inflammatory. The erosion of the antrum is all related to this as well. What is your doctor telling you?
Avatar m tn My opinion is that wearing a belt around your chest helps with one of the most common types of hiatal hernia, called sliding hiatal hernia, which has a main feature of the hernia sliding in and out of the lower chest. In such a case(sliding hiatal hernia) the diaphragmatic muscles involved in the opening and closing of the lower esophagical sphincter can become dysfunctional, causing the GERD symptoms.
Avatar f tnHeartburn •Regurgitation of food or liquids into the mouth •Backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus (acid reflux) •Difficulty swallowing •Chest or abdominal pain (sometimes the pain mimics that of a heart attack. •Shortness of breath •Vomiting of blood or passing of black stools, which may indicate gastrointestinal bleeding Mine also causes irregular heart beats as the top of the hiatal hernia sometimes hits the cardiac reflex, thus causing the skips.

Avatar m tn Hiatal Hernia, heartburn, and GERD? I'm 44, 5 ft 10 and 177 lbs.
Avatar f tn I am wondering if anyone can tell me if you always get heartburn with a hiatus hernia? I always have this feeling of fullness even if I haven't eaten, it gets worse after I have eaten. My stomach always feels tight, like it is ready to explode. Does anyone else experience this and if so, could this be a Hernia or something else?
Avatar m tn I have had PVC for a couple of years now. However, they are infrequent and only come about during periods of stress. Of late i've had lots of GERD symptoms and after an upper GI my consultant said that I have a very small sliding hiatal hernia but not GERD. So I have PVC's and a hiatal hernia, but I don't know how long i've had the hernia and if the PVC's started because of the hernia.
Avatar m tn I get that, but the endoscopy didn't reveal hiatal hernia or the GI would've told me. I do have gastritis, which he found during the endoscopy. See your GI. There are other PPI's available that aren't available OTC. Getting the GERD under control will certainly help with the shortness of breath. There are dietary changes that are needed for people with GERD and/or hiatal hernias.
Avatar f tn My new disorder,,I believe is a hiatal hernia issue. I was diagnosed 3 yrs ago with a small hiatal hernia. I didnt go on meds because it was found in routine endo and i didnt have symptoms. I get heartburn off and on, but it always goes away. this last time started with a head cold, ear ache.for a few days. then the pain in ear went away. but I was still getting the runny nose and blowing it alot.
Avatar m tn I have recently been diagnosed with a 3cm hiatal hernia, i am on Omeprazole 20mg a day which helps with heartburn but i still have chronic belching. For about 6 months now i have been getting a tightening/crushing type pain in my chest at rest. It can last anywhere from 2-10 minutes. It often wakes me up in the middle of the night, i don't have any heartburn or burning sensations with this pain. I am wondering if a hiatal hernia could cause this or if it could be something more serious?
Avatar m tn //www.webmd.com/heartburn-gerd/guide/what-is-acid-reflux-disease#1 None of these are serious, but they can be treated. If it sounds like what you have, you should talk to your doctor about it. And don't discount anxiety. Even if you do have acid reflux or something, anxiety can actually heighten your symptoms, making things feel worse. Anxiety can give you real physical symptoms. It doesn't mean you are making them up.
Avatar m tn Hi there, Heartburn, nausea, regurgitation are few common symptoms of hiatal hernia. You should be taking medications for relief in symptoms of GERD.If the GERD is severe, complicated, or unresponsive to medications, surgery may be performed. It is suggested to consult a gastroenterologist for further opinion and management. Do keep me posted on how you are doing. Best luck and kind regards!

Avatar f tn A large retrocardiac hiatal hernia is seen with the gastric fundus and at least half of the gastric body projecting above the diaphragm, protruding through the esophageal hiatus. I am scheduled for a capsule endoscopy in about 3 weeks. I suffer occassional heartburn but Dr has put we on Prilocsec which I have had no problems with since. My question is... with a hiatal hernia this large, are they going to end up doing surgery??? I am a 48 year old female, 168 pounds and 5'3"....

537497 tn?1292553056 Okay so i was reading some post, and I read one about a hiatal hernia, now I think I have one.. The upper part of my stomach hurts, and my back, I know it't probably just poor posture, But now I am driving myself crazy!!! And it really does hurt!!
135222 tn?1210432488 Sorry to tell you, but unfortunately, once in a while, heartburn just kicks up regardless of medication. You may want to call your GI doc, who will likely tell you to double dose for a few days. (I just recently had one of these episodes myself. Lasted for about a week and a half where everything set my heartburn off. I'm on Prevacid 30mg/day, and during that time it was 60mg/day in addition to Mylanta.) It may have been the pill getting stuck. That happens.
Avatar n tn The symptoms can be due to several causes like acidity, GERD or reflux disease or hiatal hernia, irritable bowel, liver and gallbladder problems and even due to gastric paresis. I would strongly recommend you to see a gastroenterologist (a specialist who looks after the diseases of our digestive system). Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
