678297 tn?1226546462 I had a sore throat for a couple months and a feeling of a lump in my throat with difficulty swallowing. Turned out to be acid reflux. Not sure if that's what you have, but thought I'd mention.
Avatar n tn I have been having difficulty swallowing for a few months (food particles sticking in throat regularly) and having to swallow several times to get them down. I also have thick throat mucus. My maternal grandfather died of ALS but all 4 of his children are in their 60's and have no symptoms yet. I feel like I trip on my right foot more often than the average person. I am concerned about the source of my swallowing problems!!

Avatar n tn I have been experiencing difficulty swallowing but it has progressed to near severe. Even swallowing water can be very difficult. I believe that anxiety plays a role regarding my difficulty swallowing but it is not the sole reason. However, anxiety may be the reason it has gotten progressively worse. I had an echo and Hida scan(I think its called) that yielded no results.
Avatar m tn In hiatal hernia a part of the stomach sticks upward into the chest and causes chest pain, heartburn, and swallowing difficulty. Since you have been operated for hiatal hernia it seems to be unlikely.Gastroesophageal reflux disease is another possibility. The common causes of chest pain are muscle strain, sprain, pleurisy, asthma, costochondritis.A bruised or broken rib, and panic attack all can lead to pain in chest.GERD can cause heartburn and chest discomfort.
Avatar f tn Hello. I have had severe heartburn and difficulty with swallowing for many years and finally went to a GI doctor who did an EGD. During the scope, my esophagus was torn and the MD was unable to view my entire esophagus. I went in for a second scope after my esophagus rested and a biopsy was taken (and I recieved another small tear). It was determined that I have Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EE).
Avatar m tn Several conditions can cause dysphagia. In children, it is often due to physical malformations, conditions such as cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy, or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). Dysphagia in adults may be due to tumors (benign or cancerous), conditions that cause the esophagus to narrow, neuromuscular conditions, stroke, or GERD. It can also be caused when the muscle in your esophagus doesn't relax enough to let food pass into your stomach.
Avatar n tn For the past few years I have had difficulty initiating the swallowing process. Sometimes I find that it is harder than others, but I can't figure out what causes this. It feels like somewhere between my nose and mouth is swollen, making the opening to swallow smaller and feels kind of like swallowing while holding your nose. Once I swallow, I'm fine it's just that it takes a lot of effort to swallow.
Avatar m tn my mum has difficulty in swallowing food , she has to take a lot water to swallowing, why is this happaning, doc said she has kind of block between esophegus and stomach, whats yr idea?
Avatar f tn For the last twenty months, since just after the pandemic started, I have had severe difficulty in swallowing most foods. I had tonsillitis on two different occasions in the six month period before that, but even then it was only slightly difficult to swallow food compared to now. After I was prescribed penicillin for my second bout, I felt well and healthy but the white spots on my tonsils were still there.
Avatar m tn The allergic reaction probably starts to a particular food and draws in esosinophils at the site of allergic reaction. This causes heartburn, difficulty in swallowing and in severe cases food getting impacted in the food pipe (in this stage strictures form in esophagus thus narrowing the lumen). The first step is to identify the allergen by an allergy test. You could also log in what you eat and see what triggers the symptoms.
Avatar m tn My biggest issue now is I have been having difficulty swallowing. For several months sometimes when I would swallow food/medicine would feel as though it was going up instead of down when I would initially swallow. I was not having heartburn or feeling of esopgagus spams at that time.
Avatar f tn I have difficulty swallowing, pain in throat, cough, headache, full feeling around jaw and ears. I am 67 years old.

Avatar f tn Forr tha past few months it has been dizziness and chest pain. Now it is the lump in the throat type and difficulty in swallowing feeling.Have recently had some genuine problems with my stomach that have been treated, but was wondering how common such a symptom is amongst everyone else here?It is as if it feels "too real" to be anxiety related.
Avatar f tn Difficulty swallowing is an ocasional side effect of levothroyxine, and the reasons are unclear. It was reported as a side effect several times to the FDA, but they have not altered the PDR handout. As for your other symptoms, you haven't elaborated on them, so it is impossible to comment. In general, most physicians address "one single issue" per visit.
Avatar f tn Disphagia (the medical term for difficulty swallowing) is indeed something associated with MS. I would speak to your doctor about it. Here is some information from the MS Society. (Clicking the link itself won't work. You'll have to cut and paste it into your browser's search bar). http://www.nationalmssociety.
