You also used to have a habit that is known to dull (burn) the nerves, cause damage to your throat, and cause
heartburn, and now that your throat is healing, you feel the
heartburn. The acid went all the way up to your tongue and caused all the thick mucus, raw feeling surfaces. This may indicate a condition known as LPRD (related to GERD).
Recommendation: stop eating peppermints. In fact, try following a GERD diet now that you've stopped smoking. Your body will need time to heal.
