Heartburn and rib pain

Common Questions and Answers about Heartburn and rib pain

heartburn

I'm only 15 and I've been having heartburn in school all day and now the pain has moved to my upper left rib. Whats wrong with me?
OMG...right rib cage is killing me! Baby B has something lodged in there and will NOT move it! It is so bad that it is making me nauseas, like my morning sickness is back! Please God, let me not loose my mind in this last 9 week stretch!
Are you nausios? Is the pain spreading to your shoulders or back? Your gallbladder is located in the area you are describing and gallstones are common in pregnancy.
And answers too postings after the original question are never answered--though I have been asked additional information for a doctor on the forum--I still had too post too a new thread. Hope this helps. Lori Oh--I also have rib pain--and it too is from multiple conditions--not all have been totally diagnosed as of yet.
Also, I get chills sometimes and am so exhausted after eating. Eating also makes me more nauseous and pain killers like oxycontin make me nauseous and only help with the knife-like pain, but not the burning. Please help!
I've thrown up on two occasions in the morning a very bitter green liquid. The last 2 weeks, the heartburn has mostly gone away and I do have an appetite, but now I have really bad nausea right when I wake up and it lasts the entire day (just not as bad as when I first wake up). I've also had looser stools than normal on some days after this started. I've had shingles so I don't know if the dull/burning pain on my right side right under my rib cage is from that or something else.
Hello Doctor. I'm a 40 year old woman with diverticulosis. it's been about 6 years since I have had an episode with any diverticulitis instances. I had a complete hysterectomy 8 years ago and gall bladder removed 4 years ago. My mother died of carcanoid carcinoma (sp) of the liver that had moved from somewhere else at age 55 (docs couldnt find the origin).
I would most certainly be in severe pain and vomiting 24/7. I have tried vegan food for awhile, and it doesn't seem to have any different effect in favor or against. Thanks for trying though.
) you hear of people going into hospital thinking they were having a heart attack or something...LOL I googled rib pain and there are loads, some say it could just be from the fact ribs have to move to make room- apparently they give out up to 2 inches! Ugh. I have my fingers crossed it isn't going to happen again! daprincess21: good grief that is a 20 week ultrasound?! I thought it must be later as it's so clear- so cool :) my 13 week & 20 week ones are in very similar positions too.
Have a very busy life, work, kids, grandkids, ect. 48 years old. No heartburn or not much. Just pain under that rib which wraps around to my back. Any information you can provide will be appreciated.
I also have been given Lyrica(which I hate the side effects),Flexeril, Naproxen, a tens unit, and Lidoderm pain patches to apply on my ribs(which really helps when sleeping as I also cannot lay on my side or my stomach without extreme pain. All have failed to help my pain except the pain patches and the Flexeril helps some. I am trying now to find a doctor to help give the what I need for the pain because I feel like I am going to burst I hurt so bad.
Is it possible that you are experiencing indigestion and it is just a coincidence that you are standing a lot? Heartburn and indigestion can give some pretty uncomfortable symptoms if they get bad. I once felt like and elephant was sitting on my chest and I felt like I couldn't breath in, all it was was indigestion. I would mention it at your next appointment and see what your OB says.
For approximately 6 months I have been having pain behind my right rib. (not below or underneath the rib) The pain is also in my right side and back. The pain is aggervating/uncomfortable during the day but is worse at night. It keeps me awake. Pain relievers do not help nor does a heating pad. There are times my rib gets tender and feels like it is bruised. I have had no injury in the area. I do have IBS and Gerd.
I have recently had some severe pain off and on but always there below and sometime on the lower rib on the left side. I have had a CT, ultrasound and XRay and resuts are conclusive to nothing. I was hospitalized for 4 days and not any better now that I am at home. Any help on this matter would be appreciated. Is a MRI needed to see muscle conditions? Are hernia's possible in the rib area? Where am I to go from here?
If you have accompanying heartburn or sometimes even without it, duodenal ulcer can present just with pain. Lifestyle changes and medication together bring good results. I would strongly recommend you to see a gastroenterologist (a specialist who looks after the diseases of our digestive system). It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
My gosh its 5 in the morning and I can't sleep because of my heartburn. I took zantac in the after noon yesterday and I didn't take one before I went to bed. But man this is killing me it's horrible. And this baby is so freaking comfortable in my stomach. I feel like she's using my left rib as a blanket. Making mommy in pain.
I was tested for H Pylori but was negative. I was having the rib pain before the scope and have had xrays since and they found nothing to explain the pain. I was put on antibiotics for a chronic urinary infection (yet another problem I struggle with) but not for the rib pain. Although, I have to say the ribs have improved since I took the antibiotics, so maybe it actually made a difference. Sadly, nothing has helped the GERDS.
My husband is suffering from pain below his left rib cage for past few months. This pain starts within half an hour to one hour of meals. Pain is usually more when he has full meals. He has hyper acidity problem for past few years. He usually doesnt have heartburn but this particular pain reduces when he takes antacids. He does not have inflammatory bowels but has soft, mushy and regular b.m. Can anyone help understanding whether he has problem with stomach or problem with colon???
GERD surfaces and causes acidic burps and GB-area pain/small spasms Jan. 2009- July 2009 -------------------- -Pain, difficulty holding a breath, and GERD still exist -Fatigue is constant....
I too have had chronic pain under my right rib cage. My pain radiates up by rib cage to the center and then through to the back and up under the right shoulder blade. I had my gallbladder out 07/23/02. I had pancreatitis at the time and was hospitalized for six days for them to get the pancreatitis under control before they could remove my gallbladder. I have had the pain (to varying degrees) ever since I had the surgery.
For the last 2 nights after supper, I have had pain in the left side, under my breast, going to my back, and heartburn; If it had been on my right side, I would have thought it was the gallbladder. After I took Pepto-Bismol AND Tums, it eventually went away. Last night it happened again, after supper, but this time the pain also went into my left arm down to my elbow. I took the Pepto as before, then started thinking maybe heart?
So of course (and I KNOW not to do this!!) I google unexplained heartburn and BAM...it's shows women and heart disease. I have had this burning more often than not lately but not for this long without a break. Last night I had I think "mini" panic attacks as the crazy feeling came in waves until I fell asleep praying that it would stop. Anyway, this burning is so bad it is distracting. I can't concentrate on anything.
Sometimes have pain in chest on right side and under right rib on the back side. Yesterday I ate some food and thought it was a reaction to peanuts but my throat felt funny as did my chest. It felt as if someone was stabbing me every minute or so and gradually got better. I then stretched a bit and it went away however the heartburn was still there wondering whats going on?
My boyfriend has the above problem sometimes with burning pain just under the lowest right rib. What could this be. He lives off Zantac and Rennies. A doctor said it could be a hiatus hernia. He is 43.
I have severe sinus infection and am experiencing acid reflux like pain but under my left rib cage that seems to have radiating pain into my back and my chest. Any thoughts...I have had the pain for several days now.
I went out drinking on Friday and also had lots to eat Burger, fries, pizza, chicken wings, nachos. all spicy foods. I woke up the next morning with a pain below sternum and under my right rib cage. It was dull at first then slowly became so bad I was crippled over with pain and could not move or walk for close to 2 hours. I took some pepto and tums and was told it was probably heart burn. It slowly went away and I felt good the rest of the day.
