Avatar n tn However, keep in mind calories are the fuel to burn that relates to skeletal muscle energy and can be stored for future use, but the heart uses and needs blood/oxygen (does not store oxygen) on a real time basis for an energetic and normal output. The faster the heart beats more oxygen for fuel increases and can be a vicious cycle...calories do not matter, but an abnormal heart rate can be an indication the heart is not meeting the demands and the heart is being overworked.

574118 tn?1305135284 Obviously I'm not a doctor and can't do a good job of explaining it all. If you google "obesity and heart disease" there's a great explanation by the American Heart Association. The choice is titled Obesity and Heart Disease: A Statement for Health Care. I don't want to copy and paste it here. Not sure about the rules concerning that. But you could look it up, look it over and read how obesity can tie in with heart problems.

Avatar f tn However, I am very confused because my husband weighs 420 pounds and falls in to the morbidly obese category. Everything I have read says that hyperthyroidism and Grave's Disease causes unintentional weight loss. How is this possible? His blood test results are TSH - 0.008 UIU/ML, Total T3 - 79.67 NG/DL, and his Free T4 is 1.81 NG/DL. I also read for a diagnosis of hyperthyroidism, one or both the T3 or T4 must be high.
Avatar m tn My wife and I want to begin trying to get pregnant, but she is currently obese and I am concerned about the health risks to her and our future child if she were to get pregnant at her current weight. She has struggled with excess weight her whole life and is skeptical that she will be able to lose much. I think at this point she would have to lose about 30 pounds to have a BMI below 30.
