Heartburn and arm pain

Common Questions and Answers about Heartburn and arm pain

heartburn

it probably is just heartburn, however, if the pain is severe and you're feeling nauseated, you should go to the ER. It could be an ulcer. A couple months ago I thought I was just having severe heartburn, but it turned out to be 2 duodenal ulcers and it was a good thing I went to the er because they admitted me for 5 days. Better to be safe than sorry. Of course, it could be a heart attack as well, but you're pretty young for that.
I'm currently on Atenolol for the tachycardia. Anyways, this heartburn pain scares me that it's heart related because of the back and left arm pain, though I had all those cardiac tests come back as negative. Is it possible for heartburn to be so severe that I feel it in my back and left arm as well?
On 10/31/07 I experienced a frightening event where, when simply leaving for the morning to go to work, I had a crushing pressure in my mid-chest (crushing like an elephant on my chest - no burning), broke out in a sweat, nauseous, dizzy, pain radiated quickly into my left neck and jaw, pounding pain in my left armpit and down the inner part of my left arm, severe pounding in both my femoral arteries (in both upper thighs), and was having trouble breathing.
I, too, have seen a number of docs about my chst pain, left arm pain and jaw pain (oh yeah, and HORRIBLE heartburn that seems to be unrelated to food). All classic symptoms and I am very concerned about it. But, FOUR cardios have found nothing and I have had the full run of tests and then some. My last workup was at the Mayo Clinic and they were VERY thorough! Thank God nothing is wrong with my heart but there is still the chest pain and arm pain both which are pretty bad since yesterday.
I feel several of those symptoms every few days. Particularly the pain/pressure in my chest and left arm and the weakness and nausea. Also my hands are extremely sweaty. My family seems to write these symptoms off, saying it can't be a heart attack if it happens so often. My thinking is that these symptoms are a warning that SOMETHING is off that might cause problems. My question is: How long do these symptoms show up before a heart attack? Can they occur for weeks?
Hi I often get a dull pain on the left side of my chest, moving into my arm-pit, radiating into my elbow and causing a feeling of weakness in my fore-arm. Could this just be normal heartburn and how does heartburn cause pain in such an awkward place/way? I get nervous when it comes to chest pains, as I have heart-valve problems and had heart-palpitations last night but because I get a miriad of different aches and pains (especially due to costochondritus) I try not to jump to conclusions.
I have been having pain in my left arm pit and breast and in my shoulder blade. It kinda feels like heart burn but, it is only my left side and at night time it burns really bad. I don't see anything nor do I feel any lumps. Do you know what this might be?
I took the Pepto as before, then started thinking maybe heart? And I knew if I took aspirin it would help the arm pain anyway, so I took two. After awhile I took Tums to stop the heartburn. I felt better after awhile. What could it be? Could it actually be heart-related, or is it just that I'm eating greasy food? Also, I do have a PEG tube I've had since surgery in May. I don't use it anymore, just Flush it out every day.
Now ever since then I have at different times of the day and week this shallow pain in my chest that radiates down my left arm, and makes it tingle and moves to my left shoulder blade and sometimes to the jaw. Along with these symptoms, my blood pressure jumps from a low of 100/50 to 179/95 which is high for me as normally I am at 120/70.

Currently I have had a sore throat (burning sensation as well as sometimes I feel like I have a lump in my throat) for 3 weeks, and sharp pains in my neck leading to my ears, and on occasion a little pain in my arm pits. I had an endoscopy of my throat and it showed nothing for esophogitis.
I am almost 18 weeks pregnant and dealing with daily heartburn. I am forgetful and often leave tums at home yet I have terrible heartburn by lunch time at work. Any suggestions on trying to control it without meds???
The pain seems to radiate in my arm, and now after a year of this will include the other arm as well. It comes, peaks, then fades. After the pain is gone I have no feeling of heartburn or upset stomach or anything. It is so extremely painful and unpleasant I don't take a second swallow. I have checked every so often to see if it still happens, since it started out of the blue, I have kind of expected it to go away out of the blue.
I feel your pain! I had terrible heartburn, mostly at night when trying to sleep. When TUMS wasn't enough, my doctor told me that Prilosec was safe. It was expensive but totally worth it!! It's hard enough to get a good nights sleep when you're pregnant but add heartburn to it and...ugh! Double whammy! My doctor also said that if Prilosec didn't work that Nexium was also approved for pregnancy although it is even MORE expensive. I'm glad the Prilosec worked for me.
I have esophagitis and get left side chest pain, shoulder pain and sometimes back and arm pain. I have had an echo, EKG, cardiac enzymes, Chest X-ray etc. All they have found is the espohagitis. At least that has been my experience. I, too, never have any heartburn.
These posts are the only thing that keep me from running to the doctor every time I have a chest/arm pain. For the last 7 years I have had on and off episodes of chest pain, arm pain, shortness of breath, racing heart, fatigue, etc. After several EKG's over the years, my symptoms too have been diagnosed as anxiety related. I took Lexapro for 9 months which seemed to help tremendously. I went off it in May and now the physical symptoms are creaping up on me again....
I have been to the hospital 3 times for chest pain, mostly on the left side, left arm pain (sometimes numb, sometimes achey), and sharp pain in my upper back. They ran an EKG, CT scan (they thought i had a blood clot in my lungs), and a chest x-ray. Their results where all basically the same, that it was anxiety or indigestion. Now, I have been on Zoloft for a long time now for anxiety, but when I started having chest pains and numbness in my arm, I began having panic attacks.
I started taking antibiotics last night and in the middle of the night I woke up and my right arm was numb from the elbow down through my hand. I had slept with it above my head but not laying on it. After I brought it down and started moving my fingers the blood started flowing again. I just wondered with all these weird symptoms if me blowing them off was the smart thing to do or if I should be worried. I really didn't even know where to begin looking...
i need some opinions or advice on whats going on with me,,, the past 5 days i have had bad migraines, tingling and numbness on my left arm and left foot and calf. My left face seems to turn cold sometimes. I get very dizzy, delusional, and light headed...kind of like im living in a dream or something. Most of all these things happen when im doing something. If i lay down all day and dont do anything, these episodes dont come often if at all.

Hi, I am a seventeen year old girl and for the past couple of weeks I've been experiencing chest discomfort, and a pain in my left arm that ranges from dull to sharp. The pain and discomfort also comes and goes. I have also been belching a lot lately (normally, i hardly ever do). The pain and discomfort get worse when I eat. I thought it could have been heartburn, but I don't see how that would explain the pain in my arm. As of yesterday, i also discovered that i had a pain in my left armpit.
Got up took Tylenol, drank water, pain subsided but was left with a dull pain in right arm that has cleared up as of now. Only 6 wks pregnant and read these pains could possibly be signs of an ectopic pregnancy. How likely is this? It is my second pregnancy, and I have no history of miscarriages.
Eat small and frequent meals. Avoid oily and spicy food, fuzzy drinks and alcohol and smoking. Arm pain can be due to pinched nerves. It can also be a referred pain from chest, so get a 12 lead EKG. Another possibility is Scalene Myofascial Pain Syndrome.
These conditions cause pain, burning and discomfort in the chest that can radiate to the back and shoulder blades. Fever is the body’s defense mechanism against any infection in the body. Headaches and insomnia could be due to stress, anxiety or depression. Get yourself evaluated by a physician. A complete clinical examination and investigations like CBC, ultrasound abdomen may help. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY MY CALCVES HAVE STARTED hurting AND THE OTHER DAY MY CHEST STARTED hurting REAL BAD AND I HAD SOME NUMBNESS IN MY LEFTSIDE OF MY FACE AND DOWN MY LEFT ARM. ALSO, MY SPEECH WAS OFF FOR SEVERAL DAYS AND THEN IT ALL WENT AWAY AS IF IT NEVER EVEN HAPPENED. BUT, NOW I STILL FIND MYSELF HAVING CHEST PAINS AND HEARTBURN WHEN I EAT SOMETHING SWEET, THE MIDDLE OF MY BACK HURTS SO BAD IT WILL WAKE ME UP AND I HAVE TO GET UP TO GET IT TO GO AWAY AND AS LONG AS I AM UP.
Its not only the reflux, it is also muscle spasms and nerve pain radiating into the back of my arms traveling down. Had a cervical fusion and this only helped some arm pain and had actually made my back worse. The docs said my neck was causing all of this, but it wasn't. Any help appreciated.
I have new symptoms with my chest pain. I have pain in my left arm and shoulder with numbness, and pain in my right arm. The chest pain is still the same. I have pain in my jaw, back, neck, and upper ribs. I also get tingling in my fingers on my right hand. I don't know if these are signs of a heart attack or the symptoms of what my doctor still thinks is Costochondritis?
I have really bad stress and anxiety and and I have been coping with the anxiety with Zoloft and it's been pretty good, but this morning I woke up and my arm had a tickly feeling like I cut off the circulation in it. Then my shoulder suddenly felt cold internally (but not to the touch)and all of the sudden my whole right arm, neck face and right side of my chest began to burn like hotsauce was in my blood. My temperature was normal but I was super uncomfortable.
