Heart pacemaker surgery recovery

Common Questions and Answers about Heart pacemaker surgery recovery

pacemaker

Avatar f tn no. 84 is not high, it's only generally if it gets to over 100 at rest that tachycardia is diagnosed. As long as his heart rate is stable and there are no rhythm problems, then there is certainly no requirement for a pacemaker.
Avatar f tn I am sure there was not one in my when I came out of surgery. I know I had lots of tubes and monitors, I wore a heart monitor (wireless after the first 24 hours) to send my heart vitals to the Intensive Car Unit desk, but I don't recall any mention of a pacemaker. Did you have some special need, or maybe it is my poor memory?
Avatar n tn After recovery, you go back to your room and start the recovery process. Was it the easiest surgery? probably not, but certainly a surgery that saved my life at 42 - due to a dangerous heart rhythm. Hope that helps.
Avatar f tn All surgeries have some risk, but I think catheter surgery (done with catheters through an artery) are among the lest dangerous. You didn't say why you are considering surgery. If the "problem" is minor you may want to consider living with it rather than take any risk. Talk it over with your doctor. The worst I've read that I think can be a bad outcome of sinus node surgery is the sinus node shuts down and one then has to have a pacemaker implanted.
Avatar n tn That way is MUCH better, no open heart surgery and recovery time would just be a matter of days instead of weeks. The doc said he'd seen 3 cases similar to hers in the past 10 years and everything went great with them. Her surgery is this Wednesday the 4th.
675084 tn?1233087505 Can your pacemaker be set to make your heart beat a certain rate? My mom's Medtronic pacemaker would not allow her heart to beat under 70 beats per minute. She had a dual pacemaker. Ask your doctor if they can set your pacemaker.
948996 tn?1245949077 Try not to worry as it could have been only a small heart attack with no heart muscle damage. People can have heart attacks with pacemakers. My Mom had several with her pacemaker over 12 year period.
Avatar m tn //www.webmd.com/heart-disease/atrial-fibrillation/pacemaker-for-atrial-fibrillation "People with atrial fibrillation may need a pacemaker for a variety of reasons. These reasons include: You have atrial fibrillation that comes and goes. And you have a fast heart rate when you are in atrial fibrillation and a slow heart rate when you are not in atrial fibrillation. This is called tachy-brady syndrome. You had an AV node ablation procedure that destroyed the AV node in your heart.
Avatar f tn I'm 19 years old. 3 months ago I went in for knee surgery. While I was in recovery they found me in 3rd degree heart block. I was sent home with a heart rate of 40 they thought it was just the pain meds. With in four hours I was unconscious on the bathroom floor with a heart rate of 15 quickly fading. I was rushed to the er and put in cardiac short stay for the night. They ran test after test to make sure anistisa had nothing to do with it.
1331422 tn?1326566597 I got a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted the end of June. The surgery is only a couple of hours and they kept me overnight. I was a little sore but nothing like other surgeries I've had. I recovered extremely quickly. They say not to raise your arm for the first week, no lifting, pushing or pulling for 6 weeks, no jogging or cardio workout for 4-5 weeks. Pretty much the same restrictions as with any surgery except you have to be really careful not to pull the leads out of your heart.
Avatar f tn got the phone call today the doc is ptting pacemaker in this friday and im really creeped out..im sure ur surgery will b a success, dnt worry yourself what works for some may not work for others..im guessing i was one of those % that get the bone..
Avatar m tn The pain associated with an implanted pacemaker may be musculoskeletal or nerve related. Most likely related to the minor surgery required for insertion of the pacemaker. This type of pain related to the incision should heal within weeks. If you have persistent chest pain at the site of the pacemaker, it might be reasonable to see your doctor so that possible causes can be evaluated.

Avatar f tn how dangerous is the replacement surgery? what is the recovery like? restrictions? should I plan to be off work longer than the day of the replacement to stay home with him?
Avatar f tn A lady friend underwent open heart surgery to repair/replace two heart valves and to do a mini maze to stop atrial fibrillation. She has been in the hospital for the past 10 days due to complications and had a pacemaker installed a few days back to address low heart rate. This, new to me, is due to swelling due to surgery and the swelling is restricting heart beat signals to the ventricle muscles - it is our hope that when the swelling goes down the pacemaker will not be needed.
Avatar f tn My husband is 31 years old & just went through open heart surgery to repair his mitral valve. He had severe regurgitation. Since before he went in for the surgery he has been taking Cardizem 120 & even after surgery they kept him on the medication with 1 baby aspirin a day. They said they would monitor him for the next few months and decide if he can come off or not. Since then he had his echo cardiogram & they reported his heart muscle function has decreased.

Avatar n tn Currently my dad who remains in hospital is experiencing an irregular heart rate. Prior to surgery his heart rate was around 50-60. Since surgery it has been anywhere from 64 to 190. He has a mechanical valve and they are now talking about having a pace maker put in. The explanation given for the irregular heart rate was that following this type of surgery the heart can swell which interferes with the conductivity of the heart. What would your advice be in regards to this?
Avatar n tn However, after the surgery she has still been kept on pacemaker as cardiologists said her heart rate is still on 48-55 per minute (which is quite slow). The cardiologists have suggested that if the heart rate does not return back to normal a permanent pacemaker maybe required. Can anyone please suggest whether to wait for the heart beat to be back to normal or go for the pacemaker. Thanks in advance for the help.
Avatar f tn My grandmother had her pacemaker implanted 1 week ago. Is it normal for the area to be bruised, a purple color? She is also experiencing a burning sensation around the area. She is 84 years old and before she had the surgery she was able to walk fine and now she walks a little and she feels very tired and she says she feels like her heart is beating really fast and it might even come out.
Avatar f tn I just had a dual lead pacemaker put in 3 days ago to control accelerated junctional rhythm. The same night of surgery I had ajr of 135 it had overridden my pacemaker. I continue to have junctional rhythms and very rarely is my heart rate,at 85 which is what pacemaker is set at. I can't walk from one room to another without heart racing and out of breath. I feel horrible.. Will this get better as maybe my heart is irritated? I feel worse than. Before pacemaker.
Avatar f tn His has to do with his arteries (glogging, ect.) and had bypass surgery. My problem is Heart Failure. Which means my heart does not pump properly because my heart is enlarged. My doctor sugested the pacemaker in case my heart would just stop. I guess I look at it when its my time to go I am ok with that. I just don't think I am up to the surgery for the implant.
