Common Questions and Answers about Heart operation types

operation

Avatar m tn Having a past detachment increases your risk greatly of having another one in either eye. Intraocular surgery like cataract surgery also increases your risk in that eye. Have a "heart to heart" with your surgeon about the risks. If you need the cataract op to see, do it. I have done many such cases and have rarely had a problem. Also, have the retina checked. If there are any suspicious areas which may result in a hole, you might have them lasered in advance of the surgery.
Avatar f tn s more technically difficult than a lot of other types of heart surgery. The outcome could go either way, and that's if you could even find a surgeon who would want to do it. Her best chance would be to go to a major heart center that has a thoracic aortic surgery program. If the aneurysm is not growing very fast, and if she is not symptomatic from it, then it's possible she might still live a long time, even without the operation.
Avatar m tn Hi, my name is Khaldoun Al habib and i am 32 years old I would like your advise on a heart surgery that i will undertake on Novermber 2010. In 1999 i had a correction to a coarctation with a 20mm Dacron interposition and in October 2000 i excised a bicuspid aortic valve, replaced with a 24mm cryopreserved aortic homograft. A couple of weeks ago i was admitted to hospital with left heart failure, pulmonary oedema and orthopnea.

1303648 tn?1274504441 Sorry to read of your son's heart rhythm problems. In general SVT does not just go away, and it should be checked and treated. Because it involves the ventricle it is potentially more serious than the various atrial chamber heart rhythm problems. Treatment may be a beta blocker to lower the HR. This is just one possibility. It is critical that the condition be evaluated by a doctor, preferably a heart specialist (Cardiologist in the USA).
Avatar f tn Although SVT is generally not life-threatening in an otherwise normal heart, symptoms from the racing heart may feel quite uncomfortable. These arrhythmias are common in young people.
Avatar m tn My father had TURP operation one and half month back. After 4 days of operation leaking problem occurred. He was saying that he don't have any kind of sense while urine comes out. After that we consulted the same doctor, he was saying that you have to wait for another 6 months for control. I am helpless. Later we have moved another doctor there he said, some nerve(something i don't know which controls the urine) has damaged at the time of operation.
Avatar n tn One option, however, is to be bridged with heparin until the day of the surgery (heparin has a very short half life and can be discontinued few hours prior to the operation) and then restarted a day after his operation assuming that there are no complications. Some also advocate doing a TEE to see if there is clot in the left atrium and if so postpone the operation until it resolves.
Avatar f tn Many individuals following open heart surgery have a memory problem for about 6 months post operation. Open heart surgery puts the individual on heart and lung machine so the fibrosis is probably not an issue during the operation. The main problem with the heart is the valve orifice and that can be corrected without open heart surgery (sometimes). The aorta regurgitation can be the cause of shortness of breath as well as the pulmonary issue. What is the operation expectation.
Avatar f tn I've had heart palpitations for 10 months, they started right after a hiatus hernia operation. I get them everyday. I get them at different times, while watching tv or just relaxing in bed, doing normal everyday things. I had blood work done and was told I was low on B12 and was told to take 1000 mcg of a supplement daily. While taking it the palpitations got stronger so I stopped taking it and they eased up.
Avatar n tn good luck and i sincerely hope it works out well for you and you can put your heart situation and your issues behind you...i know it is very difficult.....
Avatar f tn i suffered severe heart attack 2 months ago and now doctors suggest. me bypass surgery.my main artery is working 30% and rest arteries are in gud condition.and i got natural bypass which is gud sign told me doctors butt still they suggest me surgery.is there any solution by medicines and changing lifestyle?
Avatar n tn my father having hernia problem, he had heart blockages too 90,99,90% we come to know in an geography, we don't want to do bypass sugary but want to do hernia operation whether it is suitable for him???
Avatar n tn There is a mixed view on when to do a valve operation. The Mayo Clinic's renown heart surgery states publically that the biggest problem he see is that the patient waited too long. Waiting too long can require an operation when the left ventricle is enlarged and that condition would reduce the EF, and an operation subsequently the EF may never return to normal function.
Avatar m tn With children there is usually two operations, the second operation to account for the growth factor of a child.
Avatar f tn Potential complications following open heart surgery include wound infections of the sternum including dehiscence, abscess formations, and ostemyelitis (infection of the surrounding bone). Patients with concurrent immunosupressive co-morbidities (diabetes, cancer, chronic steroid therapy) are at higher risk for these types of complications.
Avatar m tn t exclude an iondividual from an operation. If that were the criterion as a basis for an operation, then heart surgery, etc. would be contraindicated. The doctor may have other reasons concomitant to a heart issue...you should ask! The best method for determining the best hospitals and medical is from a health professional in your country. You could contact the Cleveland Clinic by email for more information and may be they could help you.
Avatar m tn If the blockages in the circumflex get worse, then blood will be less available for both the right side of the heart and the left side/rear. I would look into the possibilities of having the blockage in the right artery opened using stents also. If the muscle near the left apex is viable, then I would probably be looking to bypass.A nuclear scan would be very valuable here.
Avatar n tn The general rule of thumb is to surgically repair, or replace, the faulty valve when the patient is symptomatic or shows signs of declining cardiac funtion. That said, it's just a general guideline and each patient should be evaluated by their own physicians. Have you seen your cardiologist recently? What is his/her recommendation? Any chance you could go to Cleveland Clinic or Mayo?
Avatar f tn People should find a surgeon who is experienced doing this operation and who has a low rate of serious complications (such as heart attack, stroke, and death) after the operation. If people cannot find such a surgeon, the risks of endarterectomy outweigh its expected benefits. Stents: If endarterectomy is too risky, a less invasive procedure can be done: A wire mesh tube (stent) with an umbrella filter may be placed in the carotid artery.
535882 tn?1396576685 then it followed with unexplained nerve inflamation throughout my entire body, that has gone, but throughout this year i have ahd rapid heart beats boundinding heart beats , getting winded easy, .. bounding so bad it would wake me up at night, was put on beta blockers a montha go seems to help but still is going on.
Avatar n tn In my understanding after operation he can consider about one year as a healing time. I did not have operation, but was recovering from my heart failure. 1 YEAR I needed to feel well and no pain or very occasional pain. He must be sure NOT lifting heavy things. When I had lift or was letting stress in my life, all turned out of some sort of pain. Those are the 2 mayor things he should watch for. Change all stress for love,(easier to say, but must try :)) and …do the heavy lifting for him!!
