Heart operation mortality rates

Common Questions and Answers about Heart operation mortality rates

operation

Avatar f tn In my opinion, any traumatic experience or major operation like that could cause some introspection and actually cause one to ponder ones mortality. A major operation like that can also be very tiring and stressful both physically and mentally. How long ago was the surgery?
976897 tn?1379167602 I think this explains some statistics I have been looking over for the UK with regards to heart disease, heart attacks and mortality rates. Around 2007, mortality rates from heart attacks hit the max, and this is when I had mine. I was misdiagnosed for a year as having reflux. Perhaps now hospitals in general are taking the more aggressive approach you mention, this is why mortality rates have decreased substantially.
Avatar f tn Is this a rare type of congenital heart disease? What is the mortality rate for these cases? Thanks for your whatever information you can give me.
Avatar m tn My father is 60 years old and had a heart attack last week. When diagnosed he had 80% blockage in one artery and a minor block in other artery. His Coloestrol, sugar and BP is perfect. Doc though is suggesting a bypass, can anybody suggest that is it the last remedy or we can have some scope through medicines?
Avatar f tn A healthy heart can usually tolerate supraventricular tachycardia without problems, and usually even ventricular arrhythmias without problems. An unhealthy heart can get problems with a rapid heart rhythm, through different mechanisms. If someone suffer from coronary artery disease, the rapid heart rhythm can provoke ischemia (lack of oxygen) which again may provoke dangerous ventricular arrhythmias.
661468 tn?1252514724 Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors and beta blockers have been used to treat heart failure associated with dilated cardiomyopathy and have been shown to reduce mortality rates. In patients with alcohol induced cardiomyopathy may improve dramatically and remain in remission simply by abstaining from alcohol.Other underlying treatable causes like diabetes etc yield a better prognosis. In contrast to dilated cardiomyopathies, hypertrophic cardiomyopathies have a better prognosis.
Avatar m tn Lichtenstein, Section Editor Article Outline • Comment • Copyright Neal KR, Ramsay S, Thomson BJ, et al. (University of Nottingham, United Kingdom). Excess mortality rates in a cohort of patients infected with the hepatitis C virus: a prospective study. Gut 2007;56:1098–1104. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection remains one of the major health care challenges worldwide. In the United States, it is considered the most common chronic blood-borne infection, affecting up to 4 million Americans.
Avatar f tn at home i have been experiencing vacillations in heart rate and b/p with readings running from 98/59 with 113 heart rates to 154/100 with heart rates of 40 to 70. experiencing palpitations shortness of breath, fatigue, weakness. needless to say i am concerned.
535882 tn?1396576685 then it followed with unexplained nerve inflamation throughout my entire body, that has gone, but throughout this year i have ahd rapid heart beats boundinding heart beats , getting winded easy, .. bounding so bad it would wake me up at night, was put on beta blockers a montha go seems to help but still is going on.
Avatar m tn An interesting Swiss study that found no difference in mortality rates between the general population and those with HCV that were non-cirrhotic. - ML Title: Little evidence that hepatitis C virus leads to a higher risk of mortality in the absence of cirrhosis and excess alcohol intake: the Swiss Hepatitis C Cohort Study.
Avatar m tn As far as surgical risk, that is institution and operator dependent. You have to find out the mortality rates for your particular surgeon and hospital. Long term medications are generally not required. We anticipate that most patients who do well with surgery will live into adulthood. Some patients may require more surgery to replace the pulmonary valve in the future.
707563 tn?1626361905 The study concluded that among older women, as few as 4,400 steps per day helped to lower mortality rates. With more steps per day, mortality rates decreased before leveling off at 7,500 steps, the study found." There's more to this, obviously. For more - https://wapo.
Avatar n tn There's much conjecture in the academic medical community about the significance of when PVCs occur. 10 years ago it was worrisome if higher heart rates didn't suppress ectopic beats like PVCs. There was a study done in 2008 that contradicts this wisdom. It found that if PVCs occur in the recovery phase of exercise it was prognostic of higher mortality (CAD believe it or not). The study merely suggests that more study is needed, there were no conclusions drawn.
Avatar f tn Maybe like 1/100000 Idk I read something recently regarding mother/infant mortality rates with repeat cesarean vs vbac that's all I have to go on. Basically it was extremely rare that there was a mortality but that mother mortality was higher in repeat cesarean and infant mortality higher in vbac. But this is even different circumstances than just going into labor for the first ir second time naturally abd those rates were crazy low.
Avatar m tn Your comment was of no help and considering your profile that says it all. You said "for starters the mortality rate of an operation depends on your health". How can you possibly know my health status by a post on a forum? Futhermore saying I'm healthy is another ludicrous statement when in reality you don't know nothing about my health condition except I'm wondering about having surgery. I don't know about you 0-22% mortality rate is nothing to laugh about.
Avatar n tn Long-term mortality was not statistically different, but the trend was for the lowest mortality with LIMA-LAD, a somewhat higher mortality with STENT, and the highest mortality with PTCA. There a different opinions regarding stents, cabg, and medication to treat blocked arteries. I am successfully treated with medication by a non-interventional cardiologist.
Avatar n tn i have myxoma on left atrila the size 6.3*4.
Avatar n tn My question is how much higher is mortality when there is comorbid disease present? Also, what is the likelyhood of complications? We are very concerned that if he proceeds with such an invasive surgery that his post surgical quality of life could be diminished. We are uncertain if our concerns are valid. Any information you could provide us with would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Avatar m tn Re-operations are generally thought to be higher-risk than first-time operations, but some of the top centers (on the order of Mayo, Cleveland Clinic, Texas Heart, Mass General, etc.) are showing re-op mortality and morbidity stats that are very similar to first-time stats. The skill of the surgeon plays a huge, huge role. Your daughter needs an expert surgeon. In my opinion, she should try to go to a major heart center for this operation, even if she has to travel.
Avatar f tn DD is a condition where the heart does not have adequate filling space as the heart walls are rigid and thickened. When the heart chamber cannot relax there is less blood pumped into circulation with each heartbeat. The progressive diminishing cardiac output will eventually cause heart failure meaning the heart isn't get sufficient oxygenated blood. The heart failure can/will lead to cardiac arrest. The underlying cause and if successfully treated would help evaluate prognosis.
Avatar f tn Hello, My father will be undergoing his thir heart surgery next month. He had surgery for an aortic anuerysm and replace his aortic valve in 1993; this was follwed by another surgery to replace the then leaking aortiv valve in 2002. This valve is leaking again and may be casing his mitral valve to be leaking also. He is currently 80 years old and in (relatively) good health (eats well/exercises).
Avatar m tn Some 4 months ago I started experiencing some mild, but still clearly distinguisable, arrhythmia, when exercising moderately on my recumbent bike. From stable heart rates at 115-120bpm the rate would suddenly jump to 145-150bpm. After 2-3 minutes rates would gradually return to 115-120bmp. Some times this happens only once during the workout, but most often it repeats itself 2-6 times. All this happens while resistance level is stable.
446474 tn?1446347682 I hope my AFP number can come down under 400 ng/mL The investigators found that individuals who had AFP levels of at least 1,000 ng/mL at diagnosis had lower survival rates than patients with lower AFP levels. Patients whose AFP levels reached 1,000 ng/mL had a 12% one-year survival rate and only a 1% five-year survival rate. These patients had an adjusted hazard ratio (HR) of mortality of 4.35 compared with HCC patients with AFP levels below 10 ng/mL.
Avatar n tn Some variations of the PVCs are considered predictive of higher mortality rates but the funny weird part about that is, the increased mortality was from a bunch of different reasons, not necessarily heart related. My guess is, it could be anxiety related which stresses a body globally? who knows. In my humble opinion, all the reading I've done on this subject (and I've done a lot), I don't think there is any sort of conclusions that can be drawn on it.
