Heart operation machine

Common Questions and Answers about Heart operation machine

operation

Avatar f tn Many individuals following open heart surgery have a memory problem for about 6 months post operation. Open heart surgery puts the individual on heart and lung machine so the fibrosis is probably not an issue during the operation. The main problem with the heart is the valve orifice and that can be corrected without open heart surgery (sometimes). The aorta regurgitation can be the cause of shortness of breath as well as the pulmonary issue. What is the operation expectation.
Avatar n tn The aneurism is on the heart. Procedure clamps stopped the flow of blood to the heart itself, and a heart-lung machine pumped oxygenated blood throughout the rest of the body. But the anatomy where this aneurysm is located, makes it impossible to separate it from the circulatory system with clamps. So there’s only one way surgery can do the necessary work is to shut off the circulation entirely. And to cool to an acceptable level involves packing ice around the head.
Avatar m tn Whereas CABG requires cardioplegia (arrest of contractions) to stop the heart, the use the heart lung machine for cardiopulmonary bypass, and a 30 cm. long, sternum-splitting incision, MIDCAB doesn't utilize the heart lung machine or cardioplegia and only uses a tiny incision that avoids splitting the sternum bone. Your surgeon may not be qualified so the procedure is not offered. This procedure is more difficult than conventional bypass for two reasons.
Avatar n tn t take too much notice because I knew I was nervous but since the operation I have been checking (without a machine so may not be 100% accurate) and my heart rate is always around 110 when resting. I used to be active and played a lot of football up to about 3 months ago when I hurt my knee. Since then I have done no real exercise except to walk up and down my street. I will start exercising again when my knee has healed to get off some weight.
Avatar m tn my heart rate was elevated after my cabg. At rest it was 100 and at exertion it was jumping to 186. You Father had his surgery just over a week ago? I wasn't able to walk far then, just about to the other side of the room. He has had major surgery and it will take time to settle down. I couldn't even take proper breaths after two weeks, the chest pain from the ribs expanding was too much. When his breathing gets back to normal, he will feel much better.
Avatar n tn My husband is 60 yrs, cardiac pt 2002 heart attach & quad bypass, w/33% heart damage, ascending aorta 4.3, EF 27-35%, long time Marlboro smoker, still smokes, has COPD and has an oxygen machine for sleep re: oxygen levels tested 77-89 during sleep x5 for 15min. Dr. said if EF tests next week is below 35% then defib surgery will be recommended. I've noticed his breathing to be more labored after bending over, walking up 3-4 steps.
Avatar m tn Left untreated, a person can have a sudden death event, so the surgery was probably necessary. A heart lung machine would have been used to circulate the blood around the body during surgery. When someone has a thickened heart wall and something is done to irritate the muscle cells in the wall, arrhythmias, or irregular heart beats, can be a result. They can be life threatening and that is probably what lead to your nephew's death.
Avatar m tn He tells his nurse he wants to test the ECG machine, and gets her to lay down. He wires her to the machine, but enters the name of the patient with the abnormal heart rhythm. He takes a printout of the Nurses heart with the wrong name on it, which looks normal. Hey presto. One normal ECG printout for the patient with an abnormal heart.
Avatar f tn Although SVT is generally not life-threatening in an otherwise normal heart, symptoms from the racing heart may feel quite uncomfortable. These arrhythmias are common in young people.
Avatar n tn My mother had a mitral valve replacement , on the operation table half way through the op the cannular in the right groin had dislodged .. the surgeon attempted to recannulate into the same vien with no success. His explanation was that he thought the fixation of the arterial line was adequate with the line sutured to the skin. I know that this is a known complication but very rare , in saying this my mum suffered hypoxia . The down time was 13-15min.
Avatar n tn There is a lot of hesitatance to do surgery on anyone above 90. There is a greater likelyhood of brain injury while a patient is on the heart bypass machine as they get older. I knew of a guy around your friends age who would lie about it so he could get surgeries done that he needed to get done. I think he trimmed a decade off and since it was pretty similiar to his real age, no one ever caught it.
Avatar m tn She has been in the ICU, knocked out, with occasionally opening her eyes up until about three days ago, when they decided to try and take her off the breathing machine. She was good for about 15-20 minutes and then her heart rate dropped and they frantically rushed her out of the room. They brought her back eventually and said she stopped breathing for a little bit.
Avatar m tn My wife had an operation last september when she got pregnant the doc discover she has fibroid,so the pregnancy was terminated for the operation to be done due to the fibroid was too much for the baby to grow, now she is now okay but there is no sign she is going to be pregnant again, she have been with the gp for check up twice they said she is allright that the medication she had is delaying the pregnancy

Avatar f tn I've had heart palpitations for 10 months, they started right after a hiatus hernia operation. I get them everyday. I get them at different times, while watching tv or just relaxing in bed, doing normal everyday things. I had blood work done and was told I was low on B12 and was told to take 1000 mcg of a supplement daily. While taking it the palpitations got stronger so I stopped taking it and they eased up.
Avatar n tn My husband had emergency double bypass heart surgery 6 days ago and he still won't wake up. The doctors are saying he is scattered brained. He has been tested and there is no evidence of a stroke. His eyes don't focus and he flings his arms and legs around and he won't follow any commands. It's like he is not there. He is still on the breathing machine at 35%when he came out of surgery, he was at 100%. Can anybody help me with some information?
Avatar f tn Second, the operation requires cutting all the way through the bones and muscles of the chest, stopping the heart, cutting on the heart and other tissues, and then restarting the heart and sewing the person back together. Even someone in the best of health would have difficulty tolerating that. If someone got that same kind of injury in an accident, you would be amazed if the person lived. What your uncle is going through now is not uncommon for coronary bypass graft surgery patients.
212161 tn?1599427282 My BP machine has the little heart symbol but I've never noticed if it's in sync with my actual heart beat. Usually if I try to take my BP while my heart is being jumpy, the machine shows "error" in the window. I just have to try another time.
Avatar m tn Having a past detachment increases your risk greatly of having another one in either eye. Intraocular surgery like cataract surgery also increases your risk in that eye. Have a "heart to heart" with your surgeon about the risks. If you need the cataract op to see, do it. I have done many such cases and have rarely had a problem. Also, have the retina checked. If there are any suspicious areas which may result in a hole, you might have them lasered in advance of the surgery.
