1303001 tn?1272992360 Sometimes Doctors refer artificial hearts as being ventricle assist devices which are put inside the chambers of the heart to assist the pumping. The good thing with this is that you keep the original heart and the heart rate can still change, which I don't believe a mechanical heart can. Mechanical hearts have been used to keep a patient alive until a donor is hopefully found. I know there has been a lot of research in artificial hearts in the US and Japan, using animal tissue.
Avatar m tn My Husband has a blood clot in his heart and 3 blooked arteries can,t have an operation too dangerous is now eating well and learning to walk.
Avatar f tn 70 on the ascending aortic . The only hope is an operation . What are her chances of making it through the operation and recovering? She has Arthritis in both knees and it's very difficult for her to walk. She is also 50 lbs overweight. Without the operation she may have a year left. Anyone ever go through something like this if so what were the results?
Avatar m tn s, I was born with heart defects, and because of this am lining up for my 6th open heart surgery operation at aged 28. I have had my pulmonary valve replaced twice before, but this time I am supposed to get both the pulmonary and aorta valves replaced. I guess i am a little (lot) scared about it as I feel I have just entered a phase where I have a lot of living yet to do and really don't want this to end me now.
Avatar f tn Although SVT is generally not life-threatening in an otherwise normal heart, symptoms from the racing heart may feel quite uncomfortable. These arrhythmias are common in young people.
Avatar f tn Many individuals following open heart surgery have a memory problem for about 6 months post operation. Open heart surgery puts the individual on heart and lung machine so the fibrosis is probably not an issue during the operation. The main problem with the heart is the valve orifice and that can be corrected without open heart surgery (sometimes). The aorta regurgitation can be the cause of shortness of breath as well as the pulmonary issue. What is the operation expectation.
Avatar m tn I recently found out that my (not very close) friend has a heart defect - a missing valve. He lives a normal life, although he's not recommended to do sports or some hard chores. I'm very worried about him, since I don't know anything about heart diseases, so I decided to ask you for any information about this kind of disease and what could be the major problems it can cause. Will he need an obligatory operation after some time? How dangerous it is?
Avatar f tn Im so confused and my addict brain is telling me ,,,see you didnt have these problems when you had me in you. Its been a rocky journey physically for my health and my poor lil body and now heart. I got mono (3rd time) several weeks after detox,,I passed out in Jan and was diagnosed with neurocardiogenic syncope syndrome that stemmed from a bout of constipation that ultimatly put me in the hospital having to get a blood transfusion because I tore my bottom.
Avatar f tn Well his bladder cancer was advanced, I guess that's why they had to remove the whole bladder but it hadn't spread to any other organs. He has a history of heart problems, arthiritis and lung issues. He still has yet to gain strength in his appendages but is still alive...so would it be safe to say that he's in the clear or at least that his odds of survival have increased?? If so by how much? When do you think he will be released from the hospital and able to return home?
Avatar f tn I've had heart palpitations for 10 months, they started right after a hiatus hernia operation. I get them everyday. I get them at different times, while watching tv or just relaxing in bed, doing normal everyday things. I had blood work done and was told I was low on B12 and was told to take 1000 mcg of a supplement daily. While taking it the palpitations got stronger so I stopped taking it and they eased up.
595144 tn?1219229276 I had a heart attack two months ago with two stents being necessary. At the time it was found that a heart mumur indicated minor regurgitation due to a biscuspid valve. Further tests showed a dilated ascending aorta measuring 49mm. On seeing a heart surgeon today he suggested just watching the dilation and checking each 6 months. He seemed inclined not to use a metal valve and wanted to delay the inevitable operation.
Avatar m tn Many people have heart murmur due to imperfect valve operation, and live long and productive lives. At your age it is important that you discuss with your parents and try to resolve you fears. Again, it is my guess that you have nothing to worry about but do have a condition that should be checked on from time to time to see if anything gets worse. I had a leaky mitral valve, and it may have caused a murmur, but I can't say I was ever so told or worried.
Avatar m tn Today she is back in the hospital dignoses with non-emergency fluid around the heart and in the lungs. They plan to drain the lung fluid today and the heart tomorrow. What next??? Will there ever be a happy ending?
Avatar m tn Having a past detachment increases your risk greatly of having another one in either eye. Intraocular surgery like cataract surgery also increases your risk in that eye. Have a "heart to heart" with your surgeon about the risks. If you need the cataract op to see, do it. I have done many such cases and have rarely had a problem. Also, have the retina checked. If there are any suspicious areas which may result in a hole, you might have them lasered in advance of the surgery.
Avatar f tn The bread-and-butter operation for most heart surgeons is coronary artery bypass. Even if it turns out that you also need a bypass graft done at the same time as your valve replacement, your primary need is for a surgeon who has exceptional skill at doing aortic valve replacement. AVR is an operation for which a good outcome is highly dependent on the surgeon's expertise with that particular procedure.
Avatar f tn Parents please monitor your childrens online use. 5 of these dirtbags live in my county alone. I have seen some of them in my community. Nice eh? http://pibillwarner.wordpress.
1060769 tn?1254977492 it depends on now much the valve is leaking. The blood is basically staying in your arteries or the heart and it just means the blood isnt being pushed out of the heart as efficiently as it could. Lots of people have leaking valves, millions in the US. Is your leak mild, moderate or severe? if mild/moderate it is likely they will try to control your symptoms with medication. Severe will require repair surgery or replacement.
Avatar n tn good luck and i sincerely hope it works out well for you and you can put your heart situation and your issues behind you...i know it is very difficult.....
Avatar m tn My 32 y/o son was recently diagnosed with v-tach bigeminy and viral cardiomyopathy. He was under general anethstetic to have an operation (nothing to do with his heart) and when he awoke he found out that they had to bring him out of the anethstetic because of his heart. He then went to a cardiologist and was diagnosed. As far as he knows he's been asymptomatic. They put him on atenenol and recommened a defibilator. Is there hope that he will recover?
Avatar n tn my father having hernia problem, he had heart blockages too 90,99,90% we come to know in an geography, we don't want to do bypass sugary but want to do hernia operation whether it is suitable for him???
Avatar m tn Wondering if anyone has or would consider developing a Droid APP for Medtronics Pacer/Defibers. I have a BiV-ICD and live alone. With the advent of smart phones, I've done away with a land line and so the telephone checkups are no longer an option. I know my unit broadcasts a signal at certain times, because my old heart in-home monitor only needed to be within 50 ft or so to pick up my pacer signal.
Avatar n tn There is a mixed view on when to do a valve operation. The Mayo Clinic's renown heart surgery states publically that the biggest problem he see is that the patient waited too long. Waiting too long can require an operation when the left ventricle is enlarged and that condition would reduce the EF, and an operation subsequently the EF may never return to normal function.
Avatar m tn With children there is usually two operations, the second operation to account for the growth factor of a child.
