Avatar m tn Recently I had a heart Cath. Good news was no Blokages. My doctor did say that I had "jhkjskjfkjkkc" or basically some some vessell desiese in my heart and the pressure inside my heart was to high. He said there was no damage to my heart and everything looked good but said we needed to reverse the pressure in my heart. He put me on a beta blocker to lower my blood pressure and Hydroclorthiazide and told me to limit my sodium intake and everything should be good. Does this sound right.?
Avatar f tn Americans normally consume from 8-10gms a day which is very high. If you avoid adding additional salt to your food at meals that would help you cut 1/2 to 1/3 of your sodium content a day. Add additional spices such as pepper, garlic (not garlic salt), lemon, and onion to name a few. Sodium content is high in all our convenience and prepackaged foods, cold cuts, smoked meats (smoked ham, bacon, etc), canned foods (soups, stews, vegetables, etc), and cheeses.
967168 tn?1477584489 Head rush I don't get, but that may be from your blood volume increasing. Salt is notorious for causing stomach upset. It has improved over time (years) for me, but I also don't use much from the shaker. I eat high salt foods and soup broth, and if I add a lot of salt to food I'm preparing, I use Kosher/pickling/sea salt. It doesn't have all the silica and other additives, and for whatever reason doesn't upset my stomach as much, nor does it taste as bad.
Avatar f tn You may recall having been warned when engaged in sports to take some salt when drinking water by the coach...may have had salt tablets available!
Avatar f tn I am supposedly 5 weeks pregnant. 3 drug store tests say yes. I do not have an appointment for another week & a half to confirm it. I'm worried because I have absolutely no breast tenderness. Is that normal or should I have it by now??? It seems to be the most common side effect....
Avatar f tn Im just shy of 15 weeks and im craving salt bad.... does anyone else have this & what does it mean?
368690 tn?1284357253 And I've noticed heart palpitations too...could this be from too much sodium? Thank you!!!
Avatar f tn What can i do to relieve heart burn with out having to go to the pharmacy at this late at night..?
Tbd To answer your question, 200 mg of salt a day is not too much. Actually the guideline from the American Heart Association is up to 2300 mg of salt a day! Now, that's the upper range of being 'okay' and you should check with your doctor for where they want you to be. If you have hypertension, they may want you intake to be lower than that. Have you ever heard of the DASH diet? It's a way of eating that helps with blood pressure and takes sodium/salt into account.
Avatar m tn Cindy; any clue what can happen to the heart with salt loading? I've asked on a couple of different sites and been told conflicting things. Since I was dx with NCS/OI I took Midodrine and I agree the side effects esp along with BB's were horrible, but after I went off of them, I started bloating terrible - edema in the LE's and stomach but within 2 weeks of getting off all sodium & extra fluids, the swelling started abating. It's the lesser of the 2 evils for sure...
Avatar n tn Excessive sodium intake may precipitate or exacerbate heart failure, thus a no added salt diet (60–100 mmol total daily intake) is recommended for patients with CHF. I hope that helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted.
Avatar f tn Stress test showed mild ischemia on the left side, Echo showed normal size and function for everything, Holtor showed 1 premature ventricular complexes, and 9 premature atrial complexes, no atrial fibrillation, no significant pause, no significant ST segment shift, EKG was normal. Heart cath showed severe myocardial bridge, mild mitral valve prolapse, with normal systolic function of the left ventricle, No evidence for any obstructive atherosclerotic coronary artery disease on angiogram.
Avatar m tn Because you have an enlarged heart you have to be very strict with your diet. No processed foods, no lunch meat, no smoked meat, no hotdogs, no canned foods (full of salt). No eating out in restaurants especially fast food restaurants (full of salt and fat). Eat bread and potato without butter or margarine. If you eat organic vegetables, they taste a lot better and feel a lot better on the stomach and digestion. Blood pressure needs to stay down, along with cholesterol.
Avatar m tn Oh yes and 1 more thing few months ago i had heart arrhythmias that was when i had a rly huge salt intake i was rly rly overdoing it because i love spicy foods and i didn't know the recommended dose for salt so i was rly overdoing it,i can bet i had 20~g of salt a day.One doctor told me 5g was recommended dose and once i corrected my salt intake arrhythmias were gone. I am sry i couldn't find high blood pressure in topic selection,so i've put it under men's healrth.
Avatar n tn I eat an excess of salt every day, an unbelievable excess. I have been to doctors and they say all my levels are normal. The problem is when I try to reduce my intake I get severe chest pains that will double me over in pain. Doctors just tell me...if it works, keep doing it. I dont want to be dependent on salt to keep away the pain..
Avatar m tn Her heart doctors (a Group) concensus is to let her play sports. They don't salt much, no high energy drinks and no coffee. After the emergency and they did not find anything...her blood pressure is still up. they did EKG, Head & Neck cat scan and she had already had a kidney scan last week. As a Grandma...I'm in favor of no sports; but I'm not the doctor!
4281488 tn?1353905580 I am 20+2 and I notice if I eat anything with salt I swell up mostly in my hands. My rings feel tight and my fingers feel all pudgy. I drink lots of water but it still takes hours before I feel normal again. Am I alone in this??
Avatar n tn I was sittin here eating tostitos and noticed i kept putting more and more salt on them and started licking my finger to pick up the salt on my plate and thought to my self that doesnt seem normal but still wanted more!
Avatar f tn The restriction percentage is usually stated per blockage (lesion). I don't see how you can calculate it on a total? If for example you have a blockage of 90% in your distal LAD, there is no way you can calculate the deficit in blood supply to the whole heart. There are hundreds of tiny vessels which are too small to see on an angiogram, so you can't see if these are fully open. The best test for oxygenation of heart muscle is a nuclear perfusion scan.
Avatar f tn You may need (increase) diuretics to help remove fluid buildup. It is also very critical to reduce salt intake to an absolute minimum. Salt causes a retention in fluid. I hope this helps somewhat. The fluid is making your heart work harder, and when it cannot keep up, the fluid seeps through the walls of the vessels.
