976897 tn?1379167602 It would appear from some papers published that Heart disease in women used to be a lot less in numbers than in Men, especially up to a certain age. I think this is why so many Doctors dismissed heart problems in women with typical symptoms and some still do. However, it has been realised that since women have taken the roles they have in the work place, heart disease is definitely on the increase for them. It seems the more stressful the job, the worse their condition becomes.
Avatar n tn There are some people born with heart disease, called congenital heart disease. The acquired form most commonly found in women is secondary to obstructive coronary atherosclerosis, and can develop in young women, especially if they have other risk factors such as diabetes mellitus, smoke or have a strong family history of heart disease.
Avatar n tn No, PVCs without heart disease are not of a concern. They do not increase your chances for sudden cardia death, they are just a total pain in the ***. I have them everyday. I have been through all the heart tests and basically told to have a good life. But these things can destroy you mentally if you allow them. Talk to your cardio about them and he will tell you the same. They are harmless. How do you know what you are feeling is PVCs?
Avatar n tn In the Framingham Heart Study, the incidence of an MI over a 10-year follow-up was 12.9/1000 in men 30 to 34 years old and 5.2/1000 in women 35 to 44 years old. In two series of patients with CHD at ≤40 years of age, women comprised 5.6 and 11.4 percent of patients. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
20801560 tn?1512718136 You say young women and children are the most prone to anemia, but all females become young women and all humans start out as children and very few develop anemia. Too much iron can lead to heart disease, especially in men. Poorly absorbed iron can lead to constipation. So again, I'm asking, what is it you're trying to say exactly?

Avatar f tn He died last September of heart disease that none of us knew he had. Do you always have heart disease if you have a heart attack? Were we just too dumb to know that?

According to a new study, women who experience a stillbirth or repeated miscarriages have a dramatically increased risk of heart attack later in life. Compared with women who never had a miscarriage, women who had more than three were about five times more likely to ever suffer a heart attack, the study found.
Avatar f tn Just really not feeling real comfortable with that statement. I was also diagnosed with mitral valve prolaspe back in 1998. My heart rate has always been slow..down to 43/ 45 at times and BP when checked today was 100/52 with heart rate of 56. Cardio doctor also stated that mri didn't show that I had the prolaspe. Can it just disappear over the years and should I be concerned with the 3.4 dilation?
994817 tn?1249738278 Can I have Coronary Artery Disease, Heart Attack, or Heart Disease at such a young age? Did all of the caffeine I drank in my childhood/adolescence possibly have an effect on my heart? And if it did have an effect, is it life threatening? PLEASE, anyone who can give me advice or who goes through the same thing please let me know. Some hope and peace of mind is very much needed.
Avatar f tn Also, you are very young so heart disease is very low risk plus women in their child bearing years have a natural defense from heart disease. However, your pain as described could be your heart but it would be very unlikely. You should go get checked out to be safe.
Avatar n tn My question is, now I am experiencing some other things that I have read could be the early warning signs of an impending heart attack in women, they are - spasmodic dry cough (comes out of the blue, sometimes 12 x day, others 2 x day), and I am suffering from very interrupted sleep. I am waking up almost every hour on the hour every night for the past week or so. I also suffer from extreme bouts of fatigue (not always in conjuction with lack of sleep).
Avatar n tn If stenosis of the mitral valve has occurred, giving a murmur, it could be the result of an underlying cause by infection or birth defect, making the heart work much harder than it needs to. This can lead to eventual heart failure. Of course heart disease can also cause the heart to adapt, enlarge, and force the mitral valve out of shape, making a murmur. So while a murmur itself doesn't give the pain, you can obviously have heart problems and pain while a murmur exists.
Avatar f tn They did the echocardiogram of my heart and the last result was increased bulk in the heart. After all those results and diagnosis I have mentioned above, my doctor did not give me any follow up visit after the hospitalization and the stress test last week. I assume he thinks I am ok .... or he just doesn't care :0). My dad died of heart attack and my mother has cardiomyopathy. I am 30 years old 5ft even and 96the lbs.
Avatar n tn I cannot begin to express how sorry I am for your loss. I started having arrhythmia problems at 34 after the birth of my third child almost two years ago. But according to all my tests, I did not have any CM. I am so very sad that your children will not know their mother and I am sorry that you have lost your wife. It is so tragic and my heart aches for all three of you. I wish you the best and I hope you are surrounded by alot of support during this time of grieving.
Avatar m tn Hi ChicagoDude617, Microvascular disease does cause symptoms consistent with the ones you are having. It is mostly seen in women and patients with diabetes (and is usually found in patients much older than you). It is also thought to occur by the same mechanisms as coronary artery disease of the big vessels of the heart.
Avatar f tn Diabetes wrecks havoc on your kidneys, lungs and heart, I know my father was a Diabetic, in turn he had heart disease. Smoking can cause heart disease too. I am sure Smoking didnt help your Mothers conditions Diabetes and CAD. if anything it makes everything worse. Good luck to you!
Avatar f tn You are wise to look at your long term health now and you can certainly put your chances of heart disease much lower in the probability scale. Not smoking is an important one and will dramatically decrease any risk. You can further reduce your risk by ensuring your blood pressure is normal and avoiding stress as much as possible. You can ensure you eat healthily and regularly exercise even if it's just a 30 minute walk each day. Also, have your cholesterol levels checked.
Avatar n tn Physical Signs of Heart Disease Swelling of Your Feet and Lower Legs Retention of fluid in the feet and legs is known as peripheral edema. Edema may appear as "sock marks" at the end of the day. Mild peripheral edema is common. Your doctor may check for this sign by pressing a finger against your ankle or shin bone to see if a depression is left behind. This is called "pitting edema.
Avatar m tn i also have anxiety issues and do get anxiety symptoms relatively often. i do work out a lot but dont do much cardio, and there is no history of heart disease in my family other than my father who has a murmur, which i dont have. is there a possibility that this may be coronary artery disease this young or just anxiety? it does tend to happen more when im stressed but then again heart issues also cause stress, so which does it sound like?
Avatar n tn First, the arm and shoulder pain associated with heart attacks is almost always felt in the center of the chest and in the LEFT arm,, related to the way our nervous systems are set up in embryonic development. Some women have reported pain in both arms, though. I am not sure that I have ever heard of right-sided pain in this situation, but it is possible under some circumstances.
1310633 tn?1430224091 (CNN) -- Millions of high school-aged girls and women binge drink, behavior that can have disastrous results including long-term health effects, the CDC warns in a report released Tuesday. For females, binge drinking means consuming four or more drinks in one sitting. For males, it's five or more drinks. Previous reports have focused on higher rates of binge drinking among males, but the U.S.
