Avatar n tn My father is looking to buy a puppy that is a beagle and king Charles cavalier mix. I'm aware that up to 50% of cavaliers have a disease called syringomyelia where their heads are too small for their brains. This is apparently a painful and debilitating disease. I also know that cavaliers are also prone to valve problems and heart murmers. My father wanted to buy a mutt to try and decrease the likelihood of buying an animal that would suffer from genetic diseases.
Avatar n tn Yes, a cavachon is a mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and a Brichon Frise, and may I say............. adorable.
620048 tn?1358018235 She is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and she is so adorable, loving and just the best. She is doing really well and we have spoiled her so much. She never leaves my side. Its so interesting getting a dog that is not a puppy, you have so much to learn about them since between birth and 8 yrs they have been thru things that we don't know about. But I am enjoying it... Will be watching this group more now.
Avatar f tn Hi, like Selma I read about King Charles spaniels in my search for CM info. Are you saying that surgery on *dogs* has a poor outcome? If so, I think you have to accept that you have a handicapped dog--but the good news is that you get to spoil her as much as you want!
134578 tn?1693250592 My dog, a Pomeranian-Chihuahua cross, can get growly when nervous. The only time I've boarded her is with a breeder of Cavalier King Charles Spaniels whose dogs were all around, and my dog was a jerk for the first few days she was there. Didn't bite, but called lots of audibles and made threatening snappish barks.
1392153 tn?1428624323 My 12 year old King Charles Cavalier has developed a dark spot on her eye..it appears to be dark brown like her eye colouring..it spreads out from just inside edge of her eye colour to the inside corner of her eye nearest to her nose...I only just notices this..anything to worry about?
Avatar f tn Hi there, I hope surgery goes well for Poppy. I am sure it will, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a gorgeous breed but according to my daughter they are prone to stones but surgery is usually safe and easy for this. So try not to worry too much, B.T.W. my daughter is head vet nurse for a very busy animal hospital and she has had extra training in surgery/theatre and radiology, she is always doing extra courses.
Avatar f tn Hi- we have a almost 6 month old King Charles Cavelier Spaniel that went in today to be neutered. The vet called me and told me her platelets were low at around 100,000. she said that was on the manual count and on the regular CBC it was lower 60,000-80,000. she would not do surgery on her and stated they had to be at least 200,000.
Avatar f tn I use the same med for my Cavalier King Charles Spaniels eyes, I have to use it the rest of her life. She is blind in one eye and almost blind in the other. But I understand that the dryness will just get worse and worse without the meds everyday and they did not paint a pretty picture. I don't think you can tell on a daily basis but you need to keep using it.
Avatar f tn I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel 11kg (he's big but NOT fat) and am researching the best food to give him as he is in Congestive heart failure. The only food the vet recommended are the prescription diets (Hills, Royal Canin etc) and I refuse to give those as they have animal by products etc so I feed Burns Low fat (low sodium) u til I find something better. My real issue though is low sodium chews.
Avatar f tn My 18-month-old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel occasionally does violent dry heaves; then vomits frothy mucus, and then finally vomits about a teaspoon or two of bright red blood. This happens maybe twice a month. He never vomits food and does this on an empty stomach. It is always in the morning soon after I get up and he gets out of his crate. I assume the blood is from the violent retching he's doing. I've never found a foreign body or anything to indicate why he's doing this.
Avatar f tn A study in Denmark showed that Cavalier King Charles spaniels frequently have both MVP and low magnesium levels. A study in Paris found a link between magnesium deficiency, latent tetany, hyperventilation syndrome, spasmophilia, chronic fatigue syndrome, neurocirculatory asthenia and mitral valve prolapse syndrome. Russian researchers found that patients with mitral valve prolapse appeared to suffer from magnesium deficiency.
Avatar f tn My dog (cavalier king Charles spaniel female 1 year and half) was spayed exactly one week ago. Soon after the spaying we noticed a lot of fresh blood in her urine. So we went back to the veterinarian who said it is probably a UTI and prescribed antibiotics. The next day the urine was clear. We felt relieved and thought everything is fine. Than the next day she had fresh blood in her urine again, a lot of blood. It looked like it was pure blood.
Avatar n tn My dog has always burbed loudly for a 25 lb , half bichon and half King Charles Cavalier dog. He is totally tormented he scratches, bites himself and yikes so much. I thought of putting him down just to put him out of his misery. But the tail is always waging. I just started to notice the sulfur smell is really bad. I just read a post on the sulf smell dog burbs. They changed the food to Wellness Simple for pet sensitive dogs.
Avatar f tn Did the neuro tell you WHY they're recommending surgery now? I feel like it's important to evaluate what you need medically vs. what your insurance company will pay for. The financial side is our responsibility and shouldn't be a factor in what doctors prescribe, but it seems like that isn't always the case anymore. Educate yourself on what the surgery entails. The head wasn't meant to be opened up, and doctors have a very difficult time sealing it back up properly.
1226735 tn?1379103293 We feel alone in addiction sometimes so I thought it would be nice to see who else shares this disease. Please add people to the list that you know of. !
Avatar f tn Enjoy your new furry friends! I'.m a huge fan of all spaniels and have a Cavalier who is great. Animals are the greatest medicine there is. Just be careful you don't get loved to death!
1624744 tn?1299240923 Last Wednesday we took our Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to be neutered. Everything went as planned. That night he was in more pain than what other dogs I've had was. He cried on and off all night. From then he has steadily gotten worse. Then Tues he stopped eating and crying out if you touched him anywhere. Wed was worse, he didn't want to walk at all and still not eating. I took him to the vet who said everything was fine, she thought he had ulcers and gave him meds for that.
Avatar m tn I have a english bull terrier, male 11 weeks old and a cavalier king charles spaniel, female 10 week old they seem to be starting to get along a little better jsut worry about her cuz she is smaller then him
Avatar f tn I have a 5 year old cavalier king . He’s always had this bad habit of dipping his nose under water when he drinks (I’ve seen him do it !) but lately it’s been happening a lot . When this happens he starts coughing and water sprays out of his nose . He’s got sick with kennel cough recently and I was worried about him coughing so I took him to the hospital bc I was afraid of heart disease or trachea collapse .

Avatar n tn my dog alexi just started a few days ago sleeping and I have to carry him outside to make. He is 13 years old and he is a Cavalier King Charles. Today he does not want to eat. He cannot stand up without help, and when he wakes up he looks around like he cannot see. When he is out he will not see where he is going. Please give me some advice I love him.
Avatar f tn My 2 year old Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is experiencing pain when jumping on the furniture. She yelps every time she jumps up or we pick her up. This has been going on for 3 weeks. x-rays show nothing, no arthritis. My Vet doesn't have any ideas. I put her on cage-rest for 1 week thinking it was back pain, but that didn't work. Please help!
Avatar n tn I have actually considered a heart murmur because it is becoming increasingly common in her breed, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Some statistics say that as many as 46% of Cavaliers have some form of the heart murmur because breeders are failing to screen the parents before breeding them.....The vet has checked for it, but you just never know.....We'll keep our fingers crossed that it's nothing like that!
Avatar m tn Plus my way to vicious guard dog (Cavalier King Charles named Lady) will probs make you fall about laughing and its then I will make a break for the door, haha!
