Heart catheterization electrophysiology

Common Questions and Answers about Heart catheterization electrophysiology

Avatar n tn Patients who survive cardiac arrest without irreversible damage to their central nervous systems will likely undergo extensive diagnostic and therapeutic testing, including cardiac catheterization and/or an electrophysiology study. If they have underlying heart disease, such as coronary artery disease, this will likely be aggressively managed with medications and lifestyle changes.
Avatar n tn I experienced epiosodes of rapid heart rate (tachycardia) my whole life but they were very seldom until my 40s when they decided to ramp up to occuring at least once or more a month so I was offered the option to ablate. I went in for the ep study and they were able to induce my arrhythmia almost immediately and ablated soon after. My procedure lasted all of 2 hours from being wheeled into the EP lab to being rolled out.
Avatar m tn Due to the potential arrhythmia issues, treatment with beta-blocker medication is commonly instituted. An alternative treatment is a cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology (EP) study and radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of the accessory pathway, so that the arrhythmia cannot happen. You do not state whether your son had symptoms or not at the time of his diagnosis with WPW. Sports participation may also be influenced if a child has WPW and an arrhythmia problem.
Avatar f tn She was at the hospital for 4 days the catheterization went fine she had no blockage in her heart arteries wich was good!! But..About 3days after being released from the hospital she started to have an allergic reaction to the dye! Which the dr.s thought was strange so they ran some blood tests etc. They gave her meds for it and sent her on her way. Now I have a question it’s probably common idk? After a week 1/2 of being out of hospital she still feels dizzy!
Avatar n tn i had a heart catheterization done a week ago.. i have formed a knot in the area of the catheter and now it throbs at site around to my lower back.. is this normal ?
Avatar f tn 2) The catheter touched a problematic area of the heart wall which initiated an arrhythmia and caused you to lose consciousness. In a previous catheterization and for my recent electrophysiology study, my SVT was initiated merely by inadvertently "brushing" the catheter against the interior wall of my heart. Both could require electrocardioversion.
1091003 tn?1257710173 The electrophysiology study or EP study is the end all of eletrophysiolgy test of the heart. It involves a catheter with electrodes probing the endocardium, the inside of the heart, and testing the conduction pathways and electrical activity of individual areas of the heart. You can also have some imaging do.
Avatar m tn I am puzzled why the doctor did not explain to you the reason for a heart catheterization. Of course it must be related to why your son needed to go to a cardiologist in the first place -- symptoms? Prior diagnoses? Generally speaking, a heart catheterization is performed to assess coronary arteries (#, locations, any narrowing), heart valve (leakage or narrowing) or heart muscle (thickness, movement, or any holes where there shouldn’t be one).
Avatar m tn I was recently told after wearing a 24 hr heart monitor that i had 18,567 misfires in this time frame. it was also stated that this is occurring between 1am till 6am while i sleep.
823411 tn?1251314059 hi, I'm a 29 year old married male who has always been VERY athletic,Ive had anxiety since i was 18 and Ive been to the E.R. a couple times for it.Every time they do an E.K.G. and every time they came back "normal".. About 2 years ago I was feeling very dizzy, faint, short of breathe, palpitations and my chest was tight so i went to the E.R. and they did another E.K.G. and it came back with the WPW pattern on it..
Avatar f tn I was put on 25 mg metropolis and told I need an electrophysiology study and possible ablation. You know, I was less scared about the open heart surgery than this! Could the event monitor have been mistaken? Do they ever give false positives? And am I going to actually FEEL them inducing tachycardia? That sounds decidedly unpleasant. At least when they crack your ribs and slice you open, you're unconscious! Finally, has anybody else developed VT years after valve repair.
Avatar m tn Thank you. I think there is just posted elsewhere that the doctors have decided that I shouldn't have the catheterization. And, I'm not given a good enough reason for this sudden change of heart... except that, they've now decided - I haven't had any sudden changes.. And yet, my post stress echo ekg was a mess. I doubt that went away. I will give the CT radiation risks vs catheterization/angioplasty vs medication, exercise, a good deal more thought now.
Avatar m tn They now think it may be due to either tachycardia or bradycardia and I have a consultation scheduled with a cardiologist who does Electrophysiology Studies. Can anyone there offer an opinion as to whether or not this is something that should be done?
Avatar m tn I'm a 54 yo female who needed a pacemaker 10 years ago due to idiopathic 3rd degree heart block, I take no medications for my heart. My battery (now 10 years old) needs replacing. I've had 4 episodes of 5 second or less V-tach (according to the pacemakers computer) in the last 18 months and the doctors are wanting to do an Electrophysiology study to see if they can find out why I've had these episodes, since the echo and nuclear stress test preformed last week, were all normal.
Avatar f tn I've been to the Heart Doctors a lot lately with many tests, it seem that my heart stops for 2 to 2.04 seconds, I think only at night ( I pasted out at work once) I go to the gym, and I run & bike now I have to wear another montior for 21 days, I just had a electrophysiology study, no pace maker needed so I guess I'm ok, I have a right leakie value but they said thats ok. should I be worried? am I ok? can I still hard and race?
Avatar m tn The Holter came back normal. However the stress test revealed some ischemia to one lower part of my heart. The doctor suggested I have a catheterization, but since I do not have health insurance ( dropped by Humana ) he said we could wait and see how I do on the medication alone. And that I should look into trying to find some sort of medical insurance that would pay for it. I have had no chest pain, nor had any shortness of breath.
Avatar m tn s found, further workup may include heart catheterization.
351404 tn?1299489130 s difficult to get a clear picture of your heart and lungs with a standard echocardiogram, your doctor may recommend a transesophageal echocardiogram A better test to evaluate includes a right heart cardiac catheterization and bypass TEE. I have provided information from the Mayo Clinic regarding diagnosis of pulmonary hypertension. ■Right heart catheterization.
Avatar n tn Is there any reason to bother with a Cardiac Catheterization test if I've already been put on a beta bloker and statin? Or should we give the drugs time to work? Can drugs and exercise reduce restriction in an artery? I recently had a stress test that suggests ischemia. The next recommendation is to have a Cardiac Catheterization. But I'm getting inconsistent advice from my primary Dr., stress test Drs and follow on Cardiologist.
7014780 tn?1395587657 s before electrophysiology procedures were conducted. I had a cardiac catheterization performed in 1971 at Deborah Heart Hospital which was considered "leading edge" at the time. So besides Digitalis based drugs, there wasn't much else that could be done for me at the time. So for me, conditioning did absolutely nothing. I dropped cycling cold turkey after a bad crash in the early 80's and subsequently two surgeries for the injuries I incurred.
Avatar f tn The latter can be diagnosed via an echocardiogram but the former usually requires a left heart catheterization or a CT angiogram of the heart.
Avatar m tn Over the 54 years that I had SVT, it was caught only 3 times, when I was first diagnosed as a child of 6, then at 21 during a cardiac catheterization. I had the kind that would run nn and on for hours if I let it. But I would intervene and slow it as quickly as I could. My cardiologist pleaded with me to get to the ER when one occurred so they could capture it, but I'd always halt the event. Finally, my cardiologist put a 30 day monitor on me.
