I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety shortly after and was put on zoloft. In 2002 I experienced my first "flutter". I had ekgs, echo, holter monitor and an event monitor over the next couple years and everything was normal. So I just deal with them. January of this year my brother passed away unexpectedly.
Avatar n tn the severity of symptoms, the nature of the valve lesion (whether regurgitant or stenotic), the cause of the disorder, and left ventricular function. Prognosis Newer techniques have improved the prognosis of valve replacement in the elderly. Although results are comparable among older and younger patients, old age is generally considered a significant risk factor for early mortality and morbidity, partly because of the high incidence of coexisting disorders in elderly patients.
Avatar n tn i have seen two nuerologists and they both came to the same conclusion, because of my results i am at higher risk for heart attacks and strokes. i was told to take a baby aspirin 81 mgs. daily . hope that helps.
Avatar m tn t go now his body will force him to go eventually and it may be too late. By nipping things in the bud we can prevent any serious problems in the future. You should also get him on probiotics either a supplement or yogurt enriched with it. We are more apt to develop polyps after the age of 50 and that's why they suggest we start having colonoscopies at age 50.
Avatar m tn * Patients with chronic kidney disease are at a much higher risk than the general population to develop strokes and heart attacks. * People undergoing dialysis have an overall five year survival rate of 32%. The elderly and those with diabetes have worse outcomes. * Recipients of a kidney transplant from a living related donor have a two year survival rate greater than 90%. * Recipients of a kidney from a donor who has died have a two year survival rate of 88%.
Avatar m tn As background, my father is quite elderly at 85, suffering for the last five years from congestive heart failure (CHF) following two heart attacks 10 years ago. His condition has been treated successfully to date by use of lasix diuretic. His typical pattern had been to gain weight and after symptoms of CHF progressed, we would either increase the lasix dosage or if that did not work then he would be hospitalized where intravenous diuretic appeared to control the episode.
Avatar f tn Another thing that you must also take into consideration is that inside the veins are 'flaps' that help to keep the blood moving along back up to the heart. If those 'flaps' are weakened for any reason, the blood will pool in the legs and feet. You will end up with edema as well.
Avatar f tn Hi. 5'10" Gent, and brand spankin newbie to this site. i just turned 56 in April. In my journal August. 12, 2013, I recorded wgt. 247.5 lb, BP 157/101, severe depression & anxiety with heaart palpitations and mid-nightime panic attacks. Avatar f tn He offered help me to sweep the floor/yard. Hanging and picking up the clothes. He also concentrated on the weather make sure he picked up the clothes before it rained. He'll miss if he slept all the day long! LOL. He liked sleep (usually longer hour than us). He said to me, when getting old all the bones shrink, so can feel the body aching. He said exercise is important. Even he was on the bed, he also moving his toes and fingers a lot.
Avatar f tn Hi, The edema of the ankles commonly occurs in the elderly due to a poor functioning of the heart and hence there’s stasis of the blood around the lower extremities resulting in edema of the feet due to extravasation of the fluids from the blood. Due to the poor functioning of the heart, there’s poor blood supply to the brain also which can result in confusion in the elderly. Left ventricular systolic dysfunction means left heart failure. I hope that helps. Please do keep me posted.
161427 tn?1229911282 I would like to do a short experiment by taking my mother-in-law off Plavix for a few days while she is in her normal living conditions at the nursing home. However, I have not seen dementia listed in any materials related to Plavix, so no one caring for my mother-in-law takes this idea seriously. Does anyone have any experience with this situation? Could it be dangerous to take her off the Plavix for a few days? Are there any substitutes for Plavix that might work better?
Avatar f tn Its difficult to answer your questions without knowing the general health, medical history, etc. Usually, aerobic exercise is benefical for the heart. A guideline for aerobic exercise is not exceed a pulse rate greater than 220-your age. You may want to reach a heart rate less than the recommended rate until you can comfortly have a heart rate of 144 without being out of breath with a 30 minute workout at least 3 times a week.
Avatar n tn I wear glasses and my eyesight is much weaker in the right eye then the left one. Is this something serious?
248167 tn?1220363690 I am not sure, but I think transient ischemic attacks happen a lot of the time in the elderly, although I suppose could happen in someone younger if they have underlying health issues. I do not know if you take anything for anxiety, but there are a lot of good medications out there to help reduce anxiety, as well as medications for tingling and numbness related to neurological causes. I hope you feel better soon.
Avatar n tn m going to black out. I also feel the heart pounding even at times as soon as I get up in the morning. I found a different dr I used to see before this dr... but she only practices one day a week (for only 4 hours in that one day). I trust her and went to see her... she ordered some blood work and the lab also did a test where they put these electrical nodes on you for about 3 to 5 minutes (ECG).
Avatar f tn lately i get constant pain up and down my arms and into my shoulders then center of my chest hurts and it feels heavy but not real bad it kinda feels like heart burn. the pain in my arms will only be in one arm at a time. the past 2 days the pain in arm and chest comes and goes..and i've read that in women symptoms are different sometimes than in men..im worried because the pain is becoming more frequent than it has been..
Avatar m tn But after my last attack, about 3 months ago, the doctors are now thinking that my body is trying to reject the 3 stents the have pkaced in me. This last attack was pretty serious, and we are planning to have a defibri;ator implanted later this month. One of my concerns though is not so much about the defibrilator, but why can't just cut out those stents and bypass them? I also have another blocked artery (blocked about 60 to 70%), so why can't they bypass that also?
251315 tn?1198196557 an additional note is that i can almost guarantee it is related you your heart and blood flow/pressure going through a big jump because the elderly actually have heart attacks in the morning more often than ever because when they get up too quickly their heart cant handle the change in blood flow/pressure and such soo yea :]
1676272 tn?1307298254 The attacks are sometimes preceded by numbness in his face and arm, causes his eye to squint up and water. The attacks always happen in the morning. He has vomiting, diarrhea, severe abdominal pain, sweating, shaking, writhing, and his heart rate drops into the 40s. It doesn't make sense to me that his heart rate drops that far when he is in pain, it should go up... Any insight or help is appreciated.
Avatar f tn s often a misconception that the heart is on the left side of the chest and therefore when you have pain there it must be the heart. A good portion of the heart is actually towards the middle of the chest. Often, pain on the left side of the chest actually turns out to be related to the stomache or esophagus, as that's where they connect. What I suggest is you go to see your doctor, that way he/she can give you a physcial exam to rule out any medical issues.
900662 tn?1469390305 The links work fine JB. Thanks for sharing them. This information about statins has been around for some time now. As far as I'm concerned, the medical community and FDA seem to want to downplay the potential dangers of statins for some reason. That second link you shared is a perfect example of the double-talk used. The guy being interviewed finds several ways to say, "Well they can do bad things but don't worry yet." So when do we worry?
Avatar f tn My elderly dog has been given Fortekor 20mg, she is about 15kg in weight is this dosage ok for her?
