Avatar f tn Barnes’ patients who quit the study and discontinued thyroid hormones suffered fatal heart attacks within 6 years of stopping their thyroid hormones. In 1976, four years later, Dr. Barnes published his book, Solved: The Riddle of Heart Attacks. I suggest you read the aforementioned books and studies carefully and draw your own conclusions. To me it is quite clear. But to the majority of Medical Professionals and scientists, it is perhaps as clear as ...
14991338 tn?1447193706 It is indeed a pretty rare occurrence, but not one that is non-existent. A combination of lifestyle, genetics, and sheer "luck" can lead someone to have a heart attack. However, I do believe people greatly underestimated the age range people can have a heart attack. Many seem to think it happens around 60-70, when in fact people should start worrying about it in their 40s. Sigh.
976897 tn?1379167602 It was how far genetic engineering has come in the last decade. For example, have you heart of spider goats? yes it does sound odd. The genes for producing the protein to make silk in spiders has been found and spliced into goats. The milk produced by the goats contains lots of the protein so the silk can be produced in large quantities. Why? well the silk is the strongest thing in nature or made by humans. It can be used to repair tendons for example.
Avatar n tn Our health insurance carrier this week gave an lecture to all employees about cholesterol and heart disease. But I was astounded that she said heart disease in passed on only through the specific gender - grandmother to mother to daughter/grandfather/father/son. I never heard of this! I always thought any blood relative with CAD, no matter the gender, contributed to my own developement of CAD. Any one ever hear of this? Is it true?
Avatar f tn I had a very LOW bloodpressure due to severe mitral valve incompetence, heart failure and poor heart function. Now, 3 years after my mitral valve repair, my BP is still 90/60 on a good day. But I have familial high Cholestorol and high risk for coronary artery disease.

Avatar m tn I am a 48 year old white male, and I have already had a total of 5 heart attacks (all within the last 5 tears). At first my doctoer thought it was due to my low HDL, as it has been lower that 28 for the last 5 years. But after my last attack, about 3 months ago, the doctors are now thinking that my body is trying to reject the 3 stents the have pkaced in me. This last attack was pretty serious, and we are planning to have a defibri;ator implanted later this month.
Avatar f tn People of all ages and in excellent health have heart attacks every day. If that's what the autopsy showed, that's probably what happened. Sounds like the family history doesn't indicate heart problems, but...........mine didn't either. As the cardiologists say, genetics has to start somewhere. Be of good cheer.
Avatar f tn Honestly, sudden onset of pins and needles and numbness in your hand and arm sounds a lot more like a nerve entrapment injury. If I was you, I'd head to a good physiotherapist first. They can carry out some simple tests to see if this is the actual issue. Do you have specific fingers that go numb first?
Avatar f tn Hi ladies: I had my first trimester screening (nuchal translucency u/s and bloodwork) done at 12 1/2 wks, and I'm 14 wks tomorrow, and I still do not have my results! At the u/s, the tech and doc said everything looked great, but the bloodwork results had to be put together with the u/s results before a determination could be made. So, my doc has the results, but she is on vacation until 7/15, and her partner will just not call me back! I have been calling him since Monday.

Avatar n tn What a great question. I'm probably much older than you, but this question goes back maybe 40 years when Jim Fixx had some heart trouble, gained weight, and started running, and wrote a bood called I think "The Complete Book of Running". I live in an area (Oregon) where the book was embraced and our moderate weather summer and winter is conducive to running. Jim Fixx indeed died some years later I think when running, but...

4965377 tn?1368754511 My nephew had down syndrome, and they were able to detect that through ultrasound. Mostly because he had a hole in his heart which is pretty common with downs, and done proportions in his bone sizes were a but off. But even then they werent really sure if he would have it or not until he came out.
Avatar m tn Oh, and I have frequent panic attacks and feel anxious a lot. everytime I go to the doctors my blood pressure is fine, I have the occasional heart palpatation ( I assume from my anxiety) I dont excersize regularly, I dont eat terrible foods, I have a decent diet, and I had also eaten breakfast today.
Avatar f tn This is called the Diastolic and represents how much pressure is being exerted against the walls of your vessels when your heart is at rest (NOT squeezing out blood; pumping.) The top number is more closely related to activity, stress, etc, although as we get older, it is also indicative of overall health. However, very, very healthy people (even athletes) can have high blood pressure. It is thought to be controlled by genetics in some people.
Avatar n tn But last night they started up again and I noticed they returned when I got out of bed and moving around. I have been through several heart attacks and have battled this disease for 8 years now.
Avatar f tn I don’t want to die but it looks like exercise induced PVCs and recovery PVCs are a big indicator of heart disease in the future. Both of my grandfathers have had major heart attacks and CAD but they were both lifelong smokers and drinkers so I’m not sure if that played a role. I know I can’t change my genetics but I so desperately just want to live. I want to have a normal life and children but I am so scared all the time I am crying right now just writing this.
Avatar f tn My grandmother passed away at the age of 50 from CAD. My brother who is 5 yrs older than me has had 2 heart attacks and 4 strokes in the last year. I am a 38 yr old female, 5' 7" 148 lbs. I have been having the following symptoms, fainting, light headed, rapid heart beat, extreme fatigue and shortness of breath. I am on 100 mg of Metoprolol which I was instruction to continue on my medication even during testing. Should I seek a second opinion?
Avatar n tn When there is angina due to coronary occlusions, heart cells are being deprived of blood/oxygen and that can slowly reduce the number of good functioning heart cells and eventually heart failure. Heart attack may never happen, but heart failure as heart cells die. If you are taking medication and that does not relieve chest pain, then you should have interventional treatment...what are the episodes?
Avatar n tn Cholesterol value of 268. Family history includes heart attacks and strokes. I eat well and exercise. Should I consider medication? What are the side effects?
