Avatar m tn HI The good news is there is no damage to your heart muscle, which means the things you read on the internet do not apply to you. Those statistics normally relate to people who have dead heart muscle from a heart attack. Your latest echo proves your muscle is fine. You seem surprised that this has happened at your age. It is becoming more common now. When I was 46 I had my first blockage, but others were seen during the angiogram which had been there for many years.
Avatar m tn In 65% of men and 47% of women symptons of cardiovascular disease is heart attack or sudden death. Most artery flow disrupting events occur at locations with less than 50% of lumen narrowing. Typical heart attack occurs at locations with about 20% of stenosis. Cardiac stress testing generally only detects lumen narrowing of ~75% or greater - some say nuclear stress tests go as low as ~50%." a.
Avatar m tn 3yrs ago I had a heart attack and two stents added. Three weeks ago I had another heart attack and two larger stents added to the same artery. My lipid panel is very good (cholesterol 118 Hdl at 75) my diet is good. I am committed to follow Dr Esselstyn diet. I belong to n HMO My question is around the tests that I should be asking my cardiologist. She feels that I not need to have regular stress tests or angiogram to anticipate blockages. Avatar f tn Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who has pledged to repeal Obamacare, says that people without health insurance don't have to worry about dying as a result. "We don't have people that become ill, who die in their apartment because they don't have insurance," Romney said in an interview with the Columbus Dispatch's editorial board on Wednesday.
Avatar m tn I think the hospital were nothing short of useless and you was lucky in there not to have an acute heart attack and die. I assume they relied on clot busting medication and you was very lucky it worked. If it was broken calcified plaque that caused the blockage, the medication would have no effect and you would have lost a lot of heart tissue life. The blockages seen afterwards 'could' cause a major heart attack if they break, but it's not likely.
Avatar n tn That is not always a heart attack, but may or may not require rescue PCI (stent implant). Also, with acute heart attack may or may not require salvage PCI (stent implant). Almost everyone would agree with that! Thanks for sharing your experience.
Avatar f tn Patients have to change their lives in order to lower their heart attack risk factors, and to reduce angina without intervention. But managed care allows doctors only 10-15 minutes with patients in a typical appointment. A lot of people have trouble complying with prescriptions -- 1 in 7 heart attack victims stops taking medication after leaving the hospital, and what's more motivational than a heart attack?
Avatar n tn He had the Nuclear Stress test on 10/27/09 and they cleared him for his surgery. They said he did great. A week later he had a heart attack because one of his arteries was 100% blocked. How did they happen? According to the catherization that they performed the day after his heart attack, they explained other 40%,50%, 60% other arteries that are somewhat blocked.
Avatar m tn At the time of the surgery, it was thought that I had not had a heart attack. Do these results imply that in fact I had had a heart attack? The cardiologist indicated that one of the three new arteries is blocking. How can this be after only nine months? What does this mean for future problems with blockages? Thanks for your advice.
Avatar n tn Hi, Is there a single best non-invasive test to detect potential causes of getting a heart attack in the future? I see discussions about C64-CT with merits and demerits. Is there any thing better out there?
Avatar n tn t realize they have a heart problem until there is a heart attack. And sometimes there is a silent heart attack. Like Flycaster I had a silent heart attack about 6 years ago, and my first symptoms were congested heart failure (dry cough when lying down (pulmonary edema), shortness of breath, fast heart rate, etc. I'm referencing ischemic heart attack.
Avatar f tn He is 15 yrs post-4-way bypass of his heart. I would like a second opinion because if he was to have a heart attack today I think I would ask them to do CPR. I don't want him to suffer any more but I don't want to lose him if he could be saved either. He is 69 years old. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I have been having pain in my left arm, back, jaw. You name a heart attack symptom and I have it. It has been a week since all this started and it is getting worse by the day. Sometimes I can convince myself it is anxiety then other times I just start to freak out. My grandma just died in February of a heart attack and I have the same symptoms she did. Avatar n tn Hi, my father (64) recently had a heart attack, and the cath was able to unblock a couple of the arteries. However, the film still shows three blocked arteries... The surgeon told us that one of the blocked arteries is big enough for him to bypass, but doesn't want to risk open heart surgery to only bypass one of the arteries, so he suggested angioplasty.
Avatar m tn One thing I cannot find is actual statistics stating how many people actually experience these side effects. 1in 5? 1in 10? Anyone know?? Thanks!!

Avatar f tn Hi I'm 39 and had a heart attack a month ago got the usual meds but not a lot of support I'm just wondering how I'm meant to feel or what everybody feels when it happens to them ?
Avatar m tn A man beside me told me that he had had a heart attack a week ago. He said that the only pain he felt was in his left arm. He also had some numbness in his arm. He went to the ER. They rushed him into the cath lab and placed a stent in one of his coronary arteries. He saved himself any real damage to the muscle of the heart, by acting on his instinct. He looked just fine to have had a heart attack a week before.
