Avatar n tn You should speak to your doctor to be certain but I believe the only thing they might tell you to be wary of is your heart rate. I think they say not to get your heart rate past a certain point. Other than that, being active during pregnancy is a great thing.
Avatar m tn Six years ago I had a silent heart attack with an EF below 29%, and hospitilized with congested heart failure (breathing in dusty environment for several hours probably triggered the CHF) and I was feeling very well prior, but had a dry cough and shortness of breath. I recovered quickly and feel well to this day. If there has been an MI, by definition there is heart wall damage.
Avatar n tn The problem is likely due to blood not returning to heart and can be caused by inactivity of the arm muscles and this would lead to swelling. It is not usual that runners carry and squeeze a soft ball. This prevents fluids to be trapped in the tissues. There can be an electrolyte imbalance: When electrolytes are kept in balance it helps prevent swelling in the tissues. Thanks for your question.
Avatar f tn I would like to run/walk a 5k. Any runners out there? I need a training schedule and ideas of how long to train. I walk 4 miles every day and currently walk a 13 minute mile. I am looking at a 5k 4 weeks from now and 8 weeks. I would like to do both, but will register for the later one if I need more time to train. I would like to step it up to some type of running, even if my time is quite slow.
Avatar f tn I know this isn't intended as a support blog for spouses/caregivers of people with afib, but I found you all and I'm not certain where else to turn. So forgive my being a bit off topic for your site. My husband, a lifelong runner, is just getting back to running after an ablation procedure. With his cardiologist's blessing and avid encouragement. He had a cardioversion that failed after 3 days, and then a few weeks later, the ablation, which so far has his heart completely in rhythm.
Avatar n tn I wonder if you are concerned about your HR because so many joggers and distance runners brag about their unusually low heart rates. When the people who talk about it are talking 50, 60, even lower, it's easy to fall into thinking yours is too high. Since surgery, I have been watching my vital signs gradually stabilize, and thinking HR wasn't keeping up, until I finally looked into norm data and figured out that my expectations were unrealistic for that reason.
Avatar m tn Good inputs (as usual) from "is_somnething..." While much older than you and no longer I runner I can say I do have some matches, in my past. When in my 50s I was 6'6" and weighted about 230 (maybe a bit more). At that time I could run sum 10 minute (6 mph) miles on relatively level ground. My HR was in the 150s, and I know know I had a leaky mitral valve at that time.
730826 tn?1317943334 Then when I washed and dried them they shrunk and fell apart. I JUST got my new runners broken in, went to mow the law, wearing my steal toed shoes this time. When I came in from mowing the lawn, I found that my puppy decided to chew my runners. She never has chewed shoes before. Its just my luck. Hopefully they are still wearable as she just chewed the heal.
Avatar n tn t have all the sugar in the bananas, but they warned that potassium supplement may not be good for my heart right now (yikes). I'm 36 weeks today & will continue to stretch, walk, stay hydrated, & keep magnesium nearby.
Avatar m tn my heart rate range was like this even before I started taking cayenne. BTW, I have read that if you are having a heart attack, taking cayenne pepper (preferably by drinking it in liquid) can save your life.
Avatar f tn Have anybody experience a tight feeling in there low part of there stomach while running? It's not really a cramp but diff noticeable, because your stomach turns rock soild. I'm 18w 5ds and always been an active runner, and even ran during my last pegeancy up until 34 weeks...
Avatar f tn I have gone running a few times with him early in my cycle. I know some people who ran while pregnant but they were marathon runners and such. I am a few days from my expected period. Can I run if I think I might be pregnant or find out I am pregnant? Right now I run very short distances. And only til I get winded because I have asthma so I don't want to get an asthma attack. It's too hard to run for two weeks then take two weeks off.
Avatar f tn what most docs look out for is if anyone in your family has had a heart attack under the age of 50 as well as there being a history of blood clots primarily in their legs. Swelling in the feet and legs usually isn't a great thing and should definately be checked out because many times it does come up to be heart related.....if for no other reason but to set your mind at ease i would just ask your family doc for a referral to a heart doc just to do a general check up...
Avatar n tn In my case it was more a burning sensation in the center of my chest. I could also feel it radiate up to my jaw and in my arms. I was never really short of breath, but I was nauseated and sweating. The last time I was also shaking. I knew someting was wrong. At times even now I have a strange tingling in my upper back between my shoulder blades. Have you had any discomfort of this type?
Avatar f tn In the strict sense of the words "heart attack" medically termed an infarct means necrosis in the tissue due to local ischemia (means obstructed blood flow and a heart attack is occurring with necrosis of heart cells...this condition can be quick from a clot or a slower process with occlusions of coronary vessels. An EKG is not a very reliable source to detect heart muscle damage and a prior heart attack.
Avatar m tn I'm not a doctor, but I understand people can be having a heart attack and still have a normal or near normal blood pressure. Heart attacks in women don't always include the same/typical symptoms as they do in men. Also, it's fairly common in women that symptoms of a heart attack come and go--so just because the clear up doesn't mean you're not having a heart attack. Better safe than sorry, right? I would seek medical attention immediately. First, take a 325 mg.
Avatar m tn A man beside me told me that he had had a heart attack a week ago. He said that the only pain he felt was in his left arm. He also had some numbness in his arm. He went to the ER. They rushed him into the cath lab and placed a stent in one of his coronary arteries. He saved himself any real damage to the muscle of the heart, by acting on his instinct. He looked just fine to have had a heart attack a week before.
976897 tn?1379167602 Just had angioplasty for a heart attack and thought I would post the experiences so others can hopefully benefit in some way or other. It was last thursday morning when I walked upstairs to the bathroom. I felt very light headed, so much that it was a real effort to not pass out. I had chest pains on a scale 1-10 (8) which would not go away even when I was relaxed. Sweating was incredible, I haven't sweated so much in all my life. No palpitations and no shortness of breath.
1481758 tn?1287638643 Every heart attack is different, so I believe. But it could be just different descriptions from people about the same symptom for all I know. Numb hands & feet, cold tingle, not sure about upset stomach, shacking, all don't sound like a heart attack and in fact the tight chest is the only one that is. I'd assume they drew blood which is probably where they got the ammonia idea.
Avatar f tn I am on Plavix for my Heart Attack and my husband is on Coumadin for a blood clot he had 3 years ago 1 month after he had broken his ankle and had to have surgery. I say he should be off the Coumadin already. He went back to work full time after the broken ankle and also lost 60 lbs. He says the Plavix is just as bad.
Avatar n tn s more commonly called an angiogram or heart cath. They look to see what or if the heart attack caused damage. In my case, the new blockages weren't bad enough to require any intervention. (Stents or bypass surgery). I was kept in the CCU and watched for the next 3 days. It is common to be just "watched" during this time frame. Stay hopeful. I think your friend will be fine and sent home soon. Of course, there will be many lifestyle changes and need for meds.
1814992 tn?1316890851 Doctor checked only my blood pressure which was normal and refused to do further checking of heart , telling that I might be very young to have heart attack. Please , help me to understand this symthoms... Thank You in advance!
Avatar f tn My boyfriend came over to my place Saturday morning, he brought breakfast for everyone, and a new game for our Wii which we all played happily until I had to take my 3 kids to thier Dad's place. I also took my youngest son (his Daddy is my boyfriend) so he could nap in the car. It was decided that when I got back into town I pick up my boyfriend and we go out shopping.
Avatar f tn how long before you can return to work after having a inferior stemi heart attack and stent put in

976897 tn?1379167602 I am truly confused about the term 'heart attack'. The definition used in cardiology seems to be that it refers to heart muscle being zero supplied by oxygen and necrosis is a result. Yet, we hear so many times of people having a heart attack, going into the angio suite, having no procedure and being sent home with no damage. This cannot be a heart attack then? In march, my troponin was elevated and I was told by the cardiologist that I had a heart attack.
994817 tn?1249738278 Infarction means heart muscle damage. An infarct is an area of necrotic (dead) cells in heart tissues. An MI (heart attack) can not go on very long without cardiac arrest. Symptoms can go on and off, etc. for a very long time or can result quickly to a heart attack (MI). If you are have heart related heart pains (angina), that condition can slowly or quickly damage heart cells. Sometimes one has a heart attack (MI) and there are no symptoms.
Avatar f tn Most heart attacks (myocardium infarction) occur as result of soft plaque that ruptures through the inner layer of the coronary vessel into vessel channel (lumen) and this presentation represents about 90% of fatal heart attacks. The soft plaque builds up within the layers of the vessel and is not always detected with the usual heart tests such as echocardiogram, stress test, cath, etc.
