Common Questions and Answers about Healthy eating for picky eaters

eating

Avatar n tn Children grow normal because breast milk gives them what they need as long as the mother takes in the needed calories / nutrients to breast feed. I have not heard of any relationship between breastfeed children and picky eaters. As far as children who are picky eaters, recommend they drink nutrient dense drinks, such as Pedisure or Carnation Instant Breakfast drink instead milk and engage them in helping in the kitchen. Children love to cook.
Avatar f tn Just so you know, most children are picky eaters. It's up to you as the parent to teach them that sometimes it takes a few tries to like certain foods. Kids like colorful and fun looking foods. There are several kids cookbooks out to give you ideas.
9704378 tn?1553726192 I heard on a satellite radio program about picky eaters that it can take 10 to 15 times of exposing kids to a certain food item to get them to eat it. So, don't give up. I have two kids who have both been picky eaters from time to time. Both during their toddler years. My one son now tries many things and has a varied diet. My other son has sensory integration disorder and texture issues with food really cause an issue for him.
777151 tn?1236652489 In a day she will have eaten MAX about two slices of toast and that is through out the day. I give her healthy food for her meals and fruit for her snacks but nothing ever really get touched. She not sick and looks ok but I just cant shake the feeling that it is something more than just a picky eater. Could my gut feeling be right??
Avatar n tn well to tell you the truth i would trick her into eating. make it a game. tell her to take a bite for everyone she loves...( bite for mom, bite for dad, grandma, grandpa, cat, dog, fish, cusin someone, teacher aunts, uncles....) thats how my stepmom got me to eat when i was younger..... a couple of the kids i used to watch were also real picky eaters. i found that McDonalds chicken nuggets are a favorite... healthy white meat too.. try it. keep me updated....
Avatar f tn a couple bites of this and a couple bites of that.... I know for sure... She Definatly isnt eating anywhere near the vege/meat requirment daily.... Sooooo, Ive thought this thru and thru.... I bought a complete vitamin/minerals supplement for here...... It also has 90% daily iron intake... and Calcium.... 90% seems like a lot.... But i would be lucky if she IS getting the other 10 percent.... No she never chows on broccoli or red meats like cereal..... So.... Is it ok for her to take this...
Avatar f tn Are there any good diet plans that dont work with mainly chicken and fish? Trying to get healthy and eat better, but its hard with picky eaters who hate healthy foods. Also was wondering if smoothies would be good, because I want to eat healthier and also loose weight? (yogurt, fresh fruits and ice) Dont know if yogurt is good or loosing weight? And how much is too much when it comes to smoothies(because I could drink them all day long!)? Thanks alot!

Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn For your son's weight and height he is normal for his age which is good. At this age children do become 'picky' eaters. Children learn by example. If they see you eat healthy, they will eventually eat healthier. For example if the rest of the family eats salads, vegetables, and fruit and he see it every day, eventually he may try some. There is hope in the future. Mealtimes can be a battlefield when children do not have an interest to eating healthy or eat very little.
Avatar n tn I have seen several posts on toddlers being picky eaters and I know the typical response from experts is that as long as the toddler is otherwise healthy there is nothing to worry about. But our three year old has never shown an interest in eating anything (except for potato chips or yogurt, which she does not mind) ever. In fact she does not even eat chocolate or cake. Take a piece of chocolate or cake to her mouth and she will run. She has to practically be force-fed every day.
453084 tn?1207596999 Maybe you should try asking him what foods he likes to eat and maybe then he will eat. There is also a book by Jerry Seinfield's wife called Deceptively Delicious that shows you how to incorporate veggies and other healthy foods into foods that children will like to eat. You can probably look at some of the recipes online. I know many kids that are picky eaters and hopefully this phase won't last. Good luck and let me know when you find something that works.
1248015 tn?1268782558 My one year old Tibetan spaniel is a picky eater we've tried different wet foods, dried food and she refuses to eat them. She has her days when she don't want to eat any at all. However if I give her homemade food like a boil chicken with vegies she eats it all and wants more. She also likes to eat fruits. Is this normal and should I continue to give her homemade food?
Avatar f tn If YOU are the only one forcing her to eat, there may be some type of anxiety occurring as a result and this is why she vomits only around you. Four year olds are picky eaters, and as frustrating and worrisome as it is, you cannot FORCE your child to eat. It's not right to make her clean up after herself and take away her TV privledges for something she has no control over, and you are compounding the problem by doing this! A tummy bug is her only reasoning as she is only 4!
Avatar n tn I suspect that many people with eating problems, especially picky eaters, may fall on the autistic spectrum. Maybe it is worth looking into it? Maybe a kind of phobia is involved here too, where you become sensitised to certain things. I do not know if treatment for phobia could help you, but again something to investigate perhaps. I am assuming you have been checked out physically and are not suffering from nutritional deficiencies.
Avatar n tn She is in the upper levels for her weight and height for her age so that means she is growing despite her eating habits. Children around 2 years old may become picky eaters. They get very busy with the world around them to sit down and eat. Mealtimes can be a battlefield when children do not have an interest to eating or eat very little. It becomes the battle of the wits between the child and the parents. Remember meals need to be joyous for parents and the child.
2070825 tn?1337225969 Thank god for w.i.c. :) my family aren't very health eaters. Anyone else using this program?
Avatar f tn He said it is obvious he has not been eating enough and eating right and not getting exercise and he needs to walk 30 min a day to get his blood circulating and concentrate on eating a balanced diet.He also tested positive for a peanut sensitivity and he used to live on peanut butter and jam before this test...very picky eater. Subject is 17, skinny, and very smart yet isn't active and stays indoors reading or on computer.
Avatar n tn I'm 12wks pregnant and I eat healthy every now and again but when i do I make you for all the times I don't.
Avatar m tn Some kids are very picky eaters . . . some have good reason to be. Has anyone every mentioned sensory integration disorder to you? That could affect speech and eating. Motor planning is a big part of speech and motor planning is part of the sensory system. This is the part of the nervous system that organizes and coordates functions of the brain. You must organize the thought and then the motor componant must work properly to make the sounds. Motor planning also plays a role in eating.
1006035 tn?1485575897 Kind of like when you get really sick and vomit up a meal you ate, when you think of that meal after that, you have a hard time eating it for a while. I get all this and we work with an occupational therapist for his eating issues. But, my sensory kid along with my other one do try things that I make regularly. I don't make something I KNOW they don't like and expect them to eat it but make things I 'think' they might like and ask them to try it.
1172505 tn?1263443543 His weight is between the 75-90th percentile for his age which indicates he is normal. Some children do become 'picky eaters' at this age which is not a reflection of your parenting. Just give him the foods he likes. If he likes eggs for dinner then that is fine. Slowly introduce new foods. Sometimes it takes 5-9 times to introduce a food to a child that they will accept, however, if they do not want it you have to not make a fuss and let it go.
Avatar n tn I am of the belief that Human Beings are, in fact Predators too, but have changed their natural eating habits over time. The reason for this I think is that food is so readily available for us (whereas for our distant Hunter Gatherer ancestors, it had to be caught, or gathered) Thus we have developed an eating pattern more like that of a Grazer! I feel this fundamental error is behind a lot of obesity in the world. Anyway -enough of that!
Avatar n tn Around 2 years old some children become picky eaters so it becomes hard for the parents when you want to feed them correctly. They are more interested in the world around them and not in eating. Suggest you give him nutrient dense drinks such as Pedisure or Carnation Instant Breakfast Drink instead of milk. He will get additional calories, nutrients, and protein to grow. Engage him with preparation of food. Have him help you set the table or do something for the meal.
Avatar f tn Neither myself, husband or 13 month old son are picky eaters, we eat practically everything. I am tired of being a shortcook for her and tired of the tantrums (lasting sometimes 30 minutes) she will throw if we insist she try something new. I literally am walking on eggs when presenting her with new foods. What she does eats: most fruits, black olives (she loves!?!
Avatar n tn Your daughter is about within normal range for weight and in normal range for height for her age. One of the main foods to go with picky eaters is vegetables and fruits. Engage her with preparation of food. Have her help you set the table or do something for the meal. Children love to be a part of making food. Relax at meals and let her eat what she wants. Slowly introduce new foods, and if she does not want it, do not make a fuss over it. Let it go and enjoy your meal.
Avatar f tn I have been reading some posts that the dogs are eating baby food...I will try tomorrow...and see what is working for her....She is drinking and urinating fine for now....anything else I can give to her beside the baby food.....I tried chicken breast, hamburger, filet mignon but no luck yet....
