Never been a fan of ACA, never will. Even if it was GWB's stupid, hair-brained idea, I'd STILL be against it. Has nothing to do with the fact that the current idiot thought it up and made it his mission to force down our throats.

If you are seeing only a primary care physician (PCP), you can get a referral to see a neurologist. In America, this kind of thing is required even when the patient knows which kind of specialist is needed because insurance carriers require this.
You can also get urgent care help in an emergency room where they can do the brain scan there, too. I wouldn't make this my first option, but if it's your only option, then, definitely do this.

so I just found out today that my insurance was canceled and had to pay out of pocket for my doctors appointment. I wrote a email and now they said I make too much money in my household. I live with my boyfriend who is jobless and I had to take leave from work because I'm a high risk pregnancy.

I'm sorry that I don't know anything about the insurance, since we still have private insurance. It has to be so difficult to set aside the financial worries and concentrate on feeling better. I do know a lot of the DMD companies have programs to assist anyone without insurance.
As for my private insurance cost, my employer just finished the open enrollment for next year and here is what I will be paying for my health insurance - $238.00 a month for me and my spouse.
