Common Questions and Answers about Head and neck pain symptoms headaches

neck

Avatar n tn I would suggest you to do some neck exercises every day, maintain a good posture while sitting and make sure your head and neck are well supported when lying down. Other possibilities like cervical spine stenosis, disc herniation or prolapse also need to be ruled out. I would suggest you to get a clinical exam done if the pain persists even after correcting the posture because then the possibility of sinusitis and neuralgias also should be looked into.

Avatar m tn I have had a headache for the past 10 years straight. It has never gone away. 3 years ago I found a osteoma in my sinus. I had the bony tumor removed, thinking it would get rid of the headaches. It made them worse. Now I don't know what is causing my head and neck pain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar f tn The problem is that now the pain is down in my neck and I can hardly turn my head from side to side. The pain feels almost like a burning pain in my neck and major stiffness. I don't see how sinus problems could last for this many months. Can sinus issues also make your neck hurt and be stiff? I don't know where to turn next. The neck pain and the ear noise is definitely getting on my nerves. Does anyone know what could be going on?
Avatar f tn I am 31 yrs old and have had back/neck issues since about 18 yrs old. Over the last 6-7 years the pain has centered in on my neck. About every 10 days, one side or the other of my neck becomes very stiff and painful causing a severe headache on the forehead of the same side of the head. This neck and head pain lasts for 3 days each time. MRI has come back clear. Was given some "anti-depressants" to see if that would help with the tension/pain - it didn't.

Avatar m tn Hi, How are you? Are there other symptoms present? Was there history of trauma to the head or neck? Pain at the back of head or neck that intensifies on movement may be caused by inflammation of the blood vessels of the head or bony changes in the structures of the neck. Anti-inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxants may help provide relief. Check with your doctor for proper management. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn Was there any previous history of trauma to the head and neck? Any redness or swelling in the area? Any other associated symptoms like a previous fever ,rash or flu like symptoms? Do you have any allergies or sinus problems? Any eye redness, eye tearing or nasal discharge? Are the headaches associated with any food intake, medications or any change in temperature? Do keep us posted with your answers.
Avatar f tn Other causes of your headache could be migraines, tension headaches and cluster headaches. Take adequate rest and sleep. Some headaches may have serious causes while others may not need immediate medical attention. Do seek second opinion if you are not satisfied with your doctor’s diagnosis. I hope it helps. Best luck and regards!
Avatar n tn Has your doctor mentioned anything about arthritis in your neck or other areas of your C-spine or L-spine? I have arthritis in my neck and it causes headaches and pain in the neck to the middle of my back. This condition can also affect the arms/hands/legs with tingling, numbness, etc.... I just found out that I have it about a month ago. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I went to pain specialist. He thought maybe cervical redculitis. Going for MRI neck and brain, eeg and dopler on neck. Does this sound normal? Also how intense is an eeg? Info on internet makes it seem quire scary. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I started having mild neck pain in 2007 which was probably caused by lack of sleep due to loss of a close family member in July of 07, after which I had to work stressful 12 hours shifts which only increased the neck pain.
Avatar n tn Was there previous history of trauma or injury to the head or neck? If there is none, this could be due to primary headaches such as migraine, tension or cluster headaches. Migraine headaches usually present with one sided throbbing headaches associated with nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light or sound. While cluster headache usually present with headache and pain in the vicinity of the eye that could last for a few days.

Avatar m tn The pain usually comes along after I turn my head and hear and feel a popping sensation in the left side of my neck. I have been told I have some bone spurs in my neck and something wrong with a disc or two, but I can't remember what it was. I had surgery five years ago for syringomyelia (SP?) and the headaches and pain have gotten worse.
Avatar m tn Physical therapy makes the neck pain worse and not better. This also makes my head and other symptoms worse. Again does this not warrant more investigation? I feel as though I am being ignored and just told to take a medication that makes me feel worse that I already had. If anyone knows of a better path to take to recovery form this injury. I would greatly appreciate the advice.
Avatar f tn No spinal tests done and did not hit head during accidnet--just whiplash over the steering wheel of car. Still having neck pain, headaches --not as severe--and eye pain (although no LOSS of vision like before). Been off all muscle relaxants and prednisone for 3 weeks now. I will schedule complete opth exam to rule out any underlying eye problems and do you mean physical therapy might be warranted given whiplash diagnosis and still recurring problems?
Avatar f tn 1 week ago my 20 year old son got hit in the head right above his left ear with a couple of paintballs at close range. He did not go unconscious, just pain in the head. Since then, his head is no longer tender to touch and no more bump, but when he goes outside into the heat, he has severe, sudden sharp, throbbing pain. It lasts for various amounts of time. Also when he is active at all, he gets this pain. e.g. he went up & down stairs twice yesterday.
Avatar n tn I do not have headaches often, but lately I have been having headache pain running rom my neck to my eye's!! what kind of headache is this.. I took 3 advil nothing will make it better!!
Avatar f tn The commonest type of headaches are the tension headaches. The others are migrainous headaches and those caused due to brain disorders, disorders of the eyes , neck or ears to name a few. Tension headaches are relieved by pain killers Take OTC naproxen for relief from pain. Ensure to take the medicine after food. Alcohol, smoking, altered sleep patterns and missed meals can cause tension headaches.
Avatar f tn Hi, in tension headache pain can radiate from the neck, back and eyes. Tension-type headaches account for nearly 90% of all headaches. Epidemological data suggests incidence of 3% for chronic-tension type headache. "Pain is often described as a constant pressure, as if the head were being squeezed in a vise. The pain is frequently bilateral which means it is present on both sides of the head at once. Tension-type headache pain is typically mild to moderate".
Avatar f tn I would suggest you to take OTC pain killers and apply cold compresses to the head and neck. If your symptoms do not subside in few days please consult a neurologist and get an X ray or CT scan of neck done. Also are you running temperature? If yes then meningitis needs to be ruled out as well. Take care!
