Avatar m tn My surgeon at UCSF is amazing....and I completely trust her. I guess my T4 and T3 are still above the acceptable range and she won't operate until I'm back in range. I was supposed tos tart the SSKI on Monday, but she said to hold off until the T4 and T3 are acceptable. I'm on 30mg of Methimazole right now and stopped taking the beta blocker (Atenolol) because the Methimazole pretty much took my blood pressure and heart rate down to where I'm not as symptomatic as I had been.
Avatar n tn I have pain radiating from below my ear (sometimes from the corner of my eye) down the left side of my neck and sometimes around to the back of the left side of my head. I have been to an ENT doctor, my dentist, and an endodontist. They say I do not have TMJ nor do I have a problem with my trigeminal nerve. They don't know what I have. I cannot take Vicodin or other strong medications, or Aleve, and ibuprofen and acetaminophen don't work very well.
Avatar f tn These include infiltrating papillary thyroid cancer, lymphoma, and anaplastic thyroid cancer. Certain facts make it important to consider the possibility that a goiter might be malignant.
Avatar n tn Very few people out of the millions with hepatitis C will suffer from either liver failure or liver cancer. Unfortunately for me my liver is failing and I have liver cancer but I expect to be saved by having a liver transplant at UCSF in the next 6-9 months. By getting proper care now, you will hopefully avoid what has happened to me. But even in my case thanks to the care I have received at UCSF I am still alive and don't intend on dying any time soon if my doctors and myself can help it.
6708370 tn?1471490210 I finally will be dumping Kaiser and getting to see the brilliant liver docs at UCSF. I have reached SVR but need a good doc to help me manage my cirrhosis Anyone have a primary at UCSF that is good and will refer me to Dr. Terrault?
Avatar m tn I have been going to UCSF for 5 + years now. I have hep C, advanced cirrhosis and liver cancer and may be in the exact position your mother is in. UCSF is trying some experiment things on me trying to save my life for which I am grateful for. I only want a chance to prove I would be an excellent candidate for transplant but my cancer makes that hard to prove.
Avatar m tn The pain may also be worsened in the head, neck, and jaw area if you tend to put your elbows on the desk and lean your head down into your palm (Or palms) for extended periods of time. If any of this (Trivial as it may sound) describes your body positioning for a few hours at a time during the day, it may be the source of your problem. Try being more conscious of you posture, and/or raising the height of your work area (Desk) to avoid leaning down into it.
Avatar m tn UC Davis is great for cancer and research but when I received my second opinion at UCSF I could see the difference in experience between the two hospitals. I had to fight my HMO to get the surgery done at UCSF and am so happy with the results. Lots of ear nose and throat doctors say they can do the surgery but I have talked to so many patients where I live that have had so many problems afterwards. Check around before having the surgery. Lie if you have to.
Avatar f tn Started off as a knot on the back of my head right where necks start on the bottom of head.. then I noticed I had a tiny knot in my neck. Did some research and cancer started to pop up on the Internet.. I freaked out and anxiety went into overdrive.. doctor examined me and thought it was due to allergies.. got cat scan and the side with knot the lymph nodes and glands was bigger but they said they didn’t see anything wrong ..
Avatar m tn I have been really sick and am just wondering if these flu-like situations (liver and spleen pain and joint pain and fever and fatigue) are symptoms of further damage to my liver or what is happening to cause these feelings every so often. I also have a navel hernia that is quite painful with the ascites at times. It became obstructed in march and I had emergency surgery and now it is coming back out. Lastly, I am taking 80 mg of furmoside and 10 mg of ameloride.
621386 tn?1221532483 I wish you the best of luck and go get a head and neck cancer specialist to check you out completlyl! I would demand it we even had to travel out of our area to a cancer treatment center.
Avatar m tn Or go see the head of gastroenterology and tell him you want your brother sent to UCSF. If it were my brother I would go to Kaiser and demand that your brother be transferred. Unfortunately we have seen a number of patients come to UCSF when they are critically ill and close to death. Don't let this happen to your brother. The sooner he gets listed for transplant at UCSF the better. Use every means possible to call attention to your brothers case and don't take no for an answer.
Avatar n tn I have a hard, non-tender lump on the right side of the back of my head down towards my neck. I noticed it in undergrad (4 years ago) and they took blood work. The NP said that my white count (i think) was slightly elevated, and that i probably had a virus lingering around, which would explain the swollen lymph node on the back of my head. It has never gone away. It has been there at least 4 years now. I have lately been SUPER fatigued.
4806014 tn?1424501878 Turns out that I was able to see one of the leading hepatologists at ucsf last week and I got the help I needed. This doc is so famous that the recommendations sent to my kaiser doc were fully accepted an acted on immediately. One of the recommendations was to switch from victrellis to incivek since I had not started the PI's yet The hep dr. said there would be new, shorter term, more effective drugs possibly available in one year. Only that interf/riba will still be in the picture.
Avatar m tn Whereas in the past, the “face” of head and neck cancer was a man in his 60s with a history of heavy smoking and alcohol consumption, the men diagnosed with HPV oropharyngeal cancer do not smoke heavily and may still be in their 50s or younger, although older men are also affected. Dr. Wirth explains that HPV cancers show a specific pattern as to where they arise.
Avatar n tn The general term used for babies who can not hold their head up well is head lag. At birth, all babies have head lag. Some control over head movement is reached by 8 weeks so that head lag lessens. By the age of 4-6 months, most babies should be able to hold their head up when pulled by their arms to a seated position. However, there is of course some variation between infants, and some may hold their head up earlier and some a little later.

Avatar f tn Hi all, Has anyone ever heard of breast cancer (IBC or other) spreading up the neck to cause neck, ear, and head pain on that side? I have a swollen axillary node and pain in my breast and up my neck to my ear and head and nobody can figure it out, even breast specialists. Does this sound famiiar to anyone? Thanks so much for any info.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed anti-depressents which calmed me but the headaches continued. I was then sent for a MRI head and neck scan without dye which came back clear. I have also had a ct scan of bowel and several other tests which again have been ok. I am now feeling sick but my GP will not send me for any more tests. I have a fear of cancer after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer ten years ago which turned out to be a complete mistake.
Avatar n tn Lymph nodes enlarge when there is an infection. The head and neck area have an extensive network of lymph nodes. These lymph nodes function like a filter, and thus increase in size in the presence of infection to filter out organisms. Even with treatment, some lymph nodes remain enlarged. A recurrent infection would further increase the size of the lymph node. However, there are other conditions that can present with lymph node enlargement. Head and neck malignancy is an example.
Avatar f tn You raise a great question, but the jury is still out on this issue. The effects of cellphone radiation on head and neck tumors has not been shown but also not been extensively studied." to my follow up question re 'can we test for this' and could there be a relation to the head jerking, he said: "There's no way to test for this, and I certainly don't think it has any relation to your head jerking." how would you feel?
6708370 tn?1471490210 I guess the real problem is that I am not pleased with my doctor and I am really trying to get into UCSF. I tried to reach the clinic today and left them a message but was never called back so perhaps I will just walk up there tomorrow to see if I can make an appointment. Even if I have to pay out of pocket for a consult. But my doctor feels that he is having these discussions with "the team". Why am I not at the table? This is my life after all, not a broken carburetor.
