Avatar m tn Whereas in the past, the “face” of head and neck cancer was a man in his 60s with a history of heavy smoking and alcohol consumption, the men diagnosed with HPV oropharyngeal cancer do not smoke heavily and may still be in their 50s or younger, although older men are also affected. Dr. Wirth explains that HPV cancers show a specific pattern as to where they arise.
Avatar m tn Unfortunately, there is no HPV-based screening test approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to identify men at risk of head and neck cancer, the same way a Pap smear identifies women at higher risk of cervical cancer, says the health letter. Thus, men should stay alert for early signs of disease and seek immediate evaluation, since with standard treatments, cure rates are 75 percent to 80 percent.
Avatar m tn I have had a headache for the past 10 years straight. It has never gone away. 3 years ago I found a osteoma in my sinus. I had the bony tumor removed, thinking it would get rid of the headaches. It made them worse. Now I don't know what is causing my head and neck pain. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar m tn She has an enlarged thyroid gland with nodules and is going to get a big needle stuck in her neck to check for cancer. We met in a diet program and if the prospect of her children losing another perent to death wasn't enough (yes she is considering the cancer worst case senario too.) she is worried we no more than get married and then she will have to have her tyroid gland removed and it will inevitably make her "fat"! I love her and want her to be healthy.
Avatar f tn they applied for FDA approval for gardasil for women up to 49 but it was turned down by the FDA the first time until they have more research. It shows a reduction in neck and oral cancers too as well as cervical cancer in women too. you can still get it at 30 but you have to pay for it out of pocket.
Avatar m tn with a urologist to get that checked. I have a female friend who recently went through radiation treatments for breast cancer, and her dr. told her that she still has a chance of having children.
Avatar n tn i imagine she was diagnosed in dec 07 since she already had surgery and chemo. When ovarian comes back a person can see many treatments and remissions and be in a chronic state but is never cured. just the nature of the cancer. I was given 2 years and am now 2 years and 3 months and still in remission. doctors do not know. You must seek the best centers sometimes for the best treatments. Not all doctors stay on top of all the is available. do research with trials and ask alot of questions.
Avatar m tn It occurs when hairs on the back of the head and neck grow into the skin, become inflamed, and cause scar tissue. These ingrown hairs usually occur following a short haircut on the back of the head and nape of the neck. Treatment of AKN includes suppression of the inflammation with antibiotics and steroid gels or intralesional steroid injections. So apply antibiotic cream like Neosporin or bactroban. If the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics and steroids may be needed.
612551 tn?1450022175 She was in to get the port surgery checked today and when she asked they told her, as said they told her following surgery, that there may be some neck and head pain from the surgery. So that was good news, we have a reason for the neck that is healing, so it isn't some new problem. I remain optimistic and she did well on her first 6 month chemo treatment. That was followed by about 18 months with no signs of cancer, then this. It appears this is a cycle...

Avatar f tn 49cm- I was told this is pretty large, I have just gotten the results of the biopsy, and it is not (Thank Goodness) Cancer, as I am a 2 time cancer survivor, I was really prepared for the worst. What happens next is up to the doc. But it is getting harder to swollow, and the pressure in the ears is unbelieveable- I am so very sorry that you have no insurance- I was hoping that the health care reform that did pass would have something to help all of us ?
Avatar f tn Started off as a knot on the back of my head right where necks start on the bottom of head.. then I noticed I had a tiny knot in my neck. Did some research and cancer started to pop up on the Internet.. I freaked out and anxiety went into overdrive.. doctor examined me and thought it was due to allergies.. got cat scan and the side with knot the lymph nodes and glands was bigger but they said they didn’t see anything wrong ..
Avatar f tn I had Breast Cancer 5 years ago..Surgery, Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy, followed and two years ago I had a double Mastectomy and breast Reconstruction. Last year left side of my neck started to swell..was told it may be Lymphedema, in the meantime I've had MRI, Bone Scan, Cat Scan all rule out cancer. So I'm left with Lymphedema in my neck...but no ones knows how to treat it. The swelling is very noticeable and the area is sore. Arm is weak.
1590979 tn?1302006835 does anyone have any tips for the pressure and tightness feeling in the head and neck? or for the passing out feeling?it's driving me nuts!
Avatar n tn Over the years I developed a lot of pressure in my head, temporary tinnitus, a soreness in the back of my head and neck, vibrating feeling in my head and palpitations among other things. When I was in the office while my daughter was being treated for her lower back, I was reading the book about Prolotherapy and found Barre-Lieou syndrome and realized I had most of the symptoms. I had an x-ray that showed my cervical spine had subluxation and was almost in a reverse curve.
1765114 tn?1313541596 After years of pushing that there was something wrong with my thyroid, my doc found thyroid cancer in 2011 and removed my thyroid. Ever since, my neck has been swollen off and on, sometimes it is very painful. Both ENT and endocrinologist said they couldn't find anything wrong (bear in mind the whole time up until my thyroid was removed and pathology was done, they couldn't find anything wrong with it either). It has gotten progressively worse.
Avatar n tn Merkel Cell Carcinoma is a very rare form of skin cancer which occurs most commonly in the skin covering the head, face and neck. Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light has been indirectly implicated in its development. It's an aggressive tumor, and has a high probability of recurrence (20-75% depending on stage). It also has a propensity for metastasizing to lymph nodes (31-80%) and other organs such as the lung, liver, brain, gastrointestinal tract and bladder(26-75%).
Avatar n tn 58 of the women had no further recurrence of cancer, 20 had a recurrence of cancer and 22 died of causes other than cancer. This tells me that her odds at 80% are better than going through more radiation that will leave her more susceptible to other health issues that may be worse.
Avatar m tn and for the past 2 months I have been having ear ringing in my right ear only and just this last week developed a strong pressure on the back of my head and sometimes on the sides. A nurse took my blood pressure and it was 144/94. Any suggestions? Thank You.

Avatar f tn The pain attacks him steadily. What could be the cause of this and what could be the possible treatments for it?
Avatar m tn It is true that the Onc will usually only focus on the ovca and treatments. Maybe you should call her Onc and let him or his nurse know whats happenning with your Mom before her visits and ask all your questions to him then...since you can't be with her. Good luck..
Avatar n tn I was struck by a car as a pedestrian in Jan 2010, I had a severe concussion and 3 torn ligamnets in my left ankle, nerve damage in my neck and lower back as well as a few bulging discs. besides all the bruises etc. well from the accident I also have optic nerve damage in my left eye and hearing loss in my left ear, inner ear damage on both sides amongst other things. Avatar n tn My specialist advised that my neck pain is caused by arthritis (i am 28) brought on by years of sitting at a computer and the shoulder blade pain from a damaged ligament and has recommended exercise for my neck and a cortisone injection for my shoulder blade. Is there anyone that can offer an opinion about what it wrong, if the two problems are connected to one another and how to go about easing the pain?
