Avatar n tn If you had cancer in the past and the lymph node showed up on your neck.. wouldnt you see an Oncologist? Could be a recurrence from the original cancer?
Avatar n tn I had a thyroidectomy and RAI for Papillary thryoid cancer. Because of an elevated thyroglobulin level I had an ultrasound done in October, 2007 and the radiologist said there were possible nodules that needed to be further evaluated. I had a TMS scan which did not show anything so then I had a PET/CT scan done which showed several spots in my neck. I was referred to a radiation oncologist to be treated. I had a biopsy, then surgery, and radiation. I was told RAI would not help.
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with colon cancer 8 years ago and they removed 19 inches of my colon at that time. Now, I had a PET scan done a few weeks ago and a spot (size of a lima) bean was found. I was sent to an orthopaedic doctor and he has discussed the scans with 4 radiologist and they will not commit 100% it is not cancer. So, now they ahve requested a CT/biopsy after a consultation with an Interventional radiologist next week. Do you feel this could be cancer?
Avatar m tn The first surgery they only took the right lobe and the cancer was 5mm and fully encapsulated. Because I only had a lobectomy and the cancer was small RAI was not indicated. I only had the second surgery because *everyone* in my family decided to come down with papillary carcinoma or precancerous nodules over the next 12 months. :-( I had no cancer on the left lobe so no RAI was indicated.
Avatar n tn There are many different tests available to try to identify cancer recurrences in the neck and elsewhere in the body such as lung or bone. One of the best and still least expensive tests is a careful physical examination by a practitioner skilled in thyroid disease. Because papillary thyroid cancer tends to spread to lymph nodes in the neck rather than other far away areas such as lung or bone, a careful physical examination can easily detect a recurrence in a neck lymph node(s).
Avatar f tn I had 100mCi and, yes, it was a cancer recurrence. My sister has had to undergo RAI three times because of metastases and recurrences. Don't mess with it - my sister's metastasized to her breast and abdomen. Just my $.
Avatar f tn Three years ago an US revealed a cervical lymph node positive for thyroid cancer recurrence. Had a radical neck dissection on that side of the neck in 2014 and only one lymph node was cancerous. In July, an US revealed another papillary thyroid cancer positive lymph node on the other side of my neck. Was referred to an endocrine surgeon who said I have "persistent disease" not a recurrence.
Avatar f tn Yesterday, I started with my neck swelling and now my ear is huge and my face on that side is puffy. I am wondering if maybe I am coming down with something and since I don't have any lymph nodes in that area, maybe that is causing the swelling....does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? I really wish that I could have one year without having to worry about cancer! I certainly hope 2008 is going to get better! Thanks so much for any advice you can offer!
158939 tn?1274915197 I posted here a few weeks ago. I had Stage I papillary carcinoma found on a thyroidectomy in '03 (small - 5mm encapsulated). Had a recurrence in '06 with significant uptake in my thyroid bed - 100mCi of I-131. Followup I-131 scan (4mCi) in Nov of '07 showed low uptake in thyroid bed and small uptake in sinus area. Had been experiencing pain and bleeding in the sinus area since summer '07 (exposed to lots of air-born irritants).
Avatar n tn At diagnosis (ovca IV/3) I had cancer in my pelvic, abdominal and cervical (neck) lymph nodes. It is certainly not good to have lymph node involvement so far from the ovaries. My first chemo treatments (carbo/taxol) took care of the swollen lymph nodes. My oncologist then told me if I recurred it would most likely be in my lymph nodes in my neck or armpits.
362809 tn?1233506554 I had surgery in April where a tumor and 5 lymph nodes were removed and the tumor and one lymph node were positive for cancer. I had RAI 175mCi in the beginning of August. I had a neck CT scan a week ago due to a palpable lump about midway down the right side of my neck. The scan came back suspicious for a node in that spot and also for one on the left side, both at level 2.
Avatar f tn I was wrong I did have 2 things happens between Jan 2019 to now besides med changes I was on Cymbalta for the chronic pain for 2 months which caused abnormal bleeding that lead to mild anemia. Cymbalta I believe is the reason for the <.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2007 and had total thyroidectomy and Radio Iodine treatment. I feel pain in my neck frequently. Does this means that the cancer have come back? Please help with a response , i'm so stressed and feeling depressed about it!
Avatar n tn Merkel Cell Carcinoma is a very rare form of skin cancer which occurs most commonly in the skin covering the head, face and neck. Prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light has been indirectly implicated in its development. It's an aggressive tumor, and has a high probability of recurrence (20-75% depending on stage). It also has a propensity for metastasizing to lymph nodes (31-80%) and other organs such as the lung, liver, brain, gastrointestinal tract and bladder(26-75%).
362809 tn?1233506554 Well, as I expected, my FNA of the node in my neck found after my ultrasound was positive for papillary cancer cells. I had to insist on the FNA even though my stimulated TSH was 6.0 and there was something found on the ultrasound, because my whole body scan came back negative and my doctor thought the chances of the cancer coming back after 23 years were close to none. I just want to tell everyone out there to be diligent about their care and insist on what you think is best for you.
197575 tn?1215532624 A woman in my thyca group had to have a neck dissection because of recurrence (that's not the cool part). The doctor knew that because of where the cancer was- in many lymph nodes, they weren't going to be able to save her parathyroid glands on that side so they transplanted them into her arm muscle, right above the wrist! Amazing.
Avatar m tn s role in metastatic cancer, I am guilt-ridden and sickened by the prospect that I may have contributed to her malignancy. Do my assumptions sound off-base? Do you think a tumor could have grown 5 cm in 5 months? Can oncoviruses reactivate and cause a recurrence? Avatar m tn The endo told him he was low risk for recurrence and advised against the radioactive iodine. Recently, he had his 6 month ultrasound checkup and they discovered 2 lymph nodes are abnormal. The nodes are in the neck but not near the thyroid area - further up close to jawline area. They are doing a biopsy on the lymph nodes on Thursday. The surgical notes and pathology state that all cancer was contained in the thyroid, was removed, and it had not spread. Could a recurrence happen in 6 months?
Avatar m tn There are a number of causes according to WebMD - "What causes swollen lymph nodes? Lymph nodes often swell in one location when a problem such as an injury, infection, or tumor develops in or near the lymph node. Which lymph nodes are swollen can help identify the problem. The glands on either side of the neck, under the jaw, or behind the ears commonly swell when you have a cold or sore throat.
Avatar m tn We cannot assume that just because the patient looks and feels fine at the moment, the CA 19-9 elevation is spurious and cancer recurrence is unlikely. Every means should be exhausted to rule out the possibility of recurrence. If this were indeed recurrent pancreatic cancer, her doctors are correct in saying that there is no chemotherapy regimen available which will cure the disease at this stage. But regimens which include the drug gemcitabine can help prolong her survival.
Avatar f tn Could raising my dose and not seeing any improvement be an indication that the cancer is back? If not, then what would it mean to raise a dose and nothing happen? I take my levothyroxine every morning at the same time and on an empty stomach.
Avatar n tn I had a double masectomy 1-1/2 years ago and have finished chemo treatments in April of 08 and now I am on Femara for about a year. My question is can I get a recurrence of cancer of some sort (i know it won't be breast) while I'm actually still using Femara?
