Avatar n tn My husband developed squamous cell carcinoma 5 years ago. After 8 weeks of intensive radiation treatments, along with chemo, his behavior also changed. He doesn't remember things!! He also lost the use of his arms, his shoulder fell out of it's socket, he can not speak and can only eat thru a feeding tube. In the summer of 2009, after two years on home hospice, his tumors disappeared!!
Avatar n tn Yeah, I've seen all that. Unfortunately I saw it after I got on it. I'm going to talk to the originating doc about getting off this medicine, because I really don't like it as much as I first thought. HOWEVER, it did do it's job. It's now after more than a year and a half that the "ugly" side of it is starting to show. I've found some ways to manage its side effects, and most days still like being on the drug (with the exception of the expense).
Avatar f tn You raise a great question, but the jury is still out on this issue. The effects of cellphone radiation on head and neck tumors has not been shown but also not been extensively studied." to my follow up question re 'can we test for this' and could there be a relation to the head jerking, he said: "There's no way to test for this, and I certainly don't think it has any relation to your head jerking." how would you feel?
Avatar n tn These pink lumps become ulcerated and easily bleed. These pink lumps are found on the face, neck, lips, ears, hands, shoulders, arms and legs. The effects of the UV radiation from the sun or the UV radiation of tanning beds are the same. Ultra violet radiation causes all three types of skin cancer. ' You could read more about this at - http://www.fda.gov/cdrh/tanning/risks.html and en.wikipedia.
2023801 tn?1333929758 Great that its he has no cancer. So how much radiation was given to him. I am worried of the radiation side affects for cancer for a normal CT scan on head and neck. I had twice one in 2018 and one in 2019.
Avatar n tn who ordered a MRI of the head and neck and there it was. It was a Meningioma It is a benign tumor that I probably had for many years as they are slow growing. I went to a neurosurgeon and was told it was in a touchy spot, very close to my optic nerve, also was encasing my rt carotid artery. He did surgery but could only remove very little but removed enough so that I could have Gamma Knife radiosurgery. That's something like radiation but only a one time thing.
Avatar f tn I did not lose my eyebrows or eyelashes although they did become thinner. However, I did lose all of the hair on my head, under my arms and in my public area. I did not lose the hair on my legs or arms. All of the hair grew back except for the hair under my arms. I have not had to shave under my arms since I had chemo. : ) My chemo was AC and I didn't have radiation. I hope all goes well with your treatment.
Avatar n tn I clicked on the thread that bluebutterfly kindly provided. It doesn't address the question of the original poster - which is the what are the long-term effects of radiation. These are extensive - radiation therapy has long-reaching effects on the body's systems - particularly if rec'd at a young age - I was under 20 - it caused my later breast cancer. It is the reason I am at substantial increased risk for stroke and heart disease (it causes hardening of the arteries).
Avatar n tn Personally, having had Proton treatments, I would not consider any other type treatment due to the 90% cure rate and no side effects... My PSA is now .03 and I have -0- side effects as a result of the treatments..and was not sick one single day during the treatments.. Its like im cured and was never sick. I found out that you shouldnt just take your doctors word for treatments...Check out the options yourself and be sure you know the side effects of all of the treatments..
Avatar n tn Radiation oncologist told me the more common side effects are fatigue and developing a sunburn on the skin, usually about 3 weeks into the treatment. He also said that some there will be some radiation exposure to some ribs and a small portion of the lung - unavoidable. He said there is usually no long-term problem but that the ribs may be a bit more vunerable to fracture if I were in a car accident or fell heavily on them. He said they will map the beam to totally avoid the heart.
Avatar n tn I have nausea, dizziness, a swoshing feeling when I turn my head from side to side and just feel bad overall. I have been cranky and moody. What can I do to get through this. I know that before if I missed a pill whithin a few hours I would feel sick but once I took one I was okay. I do not want to ever take this medicine again and if this is how bad you are going to feel getting off, I hope others never start. What can I take or do to get over this???
Avatar n tn Are the pains associated from radiation damage or side effects of Arimidex? Has anyone answered that for you?
616568 tn?1223243967 However, her nutritional condition should be improved since chemotherapy has many side effects. The risks and benefits of treatment options must be weighed. Take care and God bless.
Avatar m tn I was not sick or even felt bad one single day as a result of the treatments . My PSA is now .07 and I have absolutley no side effects from the cancer or the treatments. It is like I was never sick. My PSA was 4.5 and my gleason was 8 when my prostate cancer was discovered. I dont know if Proton Radiation is available in your country or not. I had my treatments at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, California.
Avatar m tn therefore surrounding tissue and organs are not damaged by radiation and you have little to no side effects.. that is not the case with conventional radiation.. I know this doesnt answer your question, but any one who has had proton treatments just hates to see people have teatments that can cause side effects when there is such a good option available.. I wish you the very best..
Avatar n tn Oh well I guess I have no other option. Any thoughts? How bad are your side effects and do they disappear eventually?
Avatar n tn Kim, If I could, I'd tell you to go get another surgical opinion. I do not like the way your surgeon answered your questions. Or the radiologist for that matter. I had a 10 cm mass in my right breast and they removed all the way in to my chest muscle with my mastectomy. You for SURE want clear margins! Please go for a second and a third opinion if necessary! They do not reccommend expanders when there is going to be radiation. Here is why.
Avatar f tn A month ago my husband (41) had a tumor resection of a GBM in the left temporal/frontal lobe. He is still recovering from surgery and has begun cancer treatment (temodar& radiation) a week ago. He has a previous accident injury where he has struggled with neck pain for ten years. He has been on suboxone for probably 7 years now. He is currently taking his suboxone but is not getting any relief for his head pain.
Avatar m tn Please go through the below head CT scan results of a 6 year old boy and kindly confirm if a repeated head scan exposes the boy to too of radiation. Will there be any long term side effects? Thanks in advance and would appreciate a quick response. Total mAs 17389, Total DLP 4450 mGy*cm Topogram --> kV = 130, CTDIvol mGy = 0.10(L), DLP mGy*cm = 2.54, TI s = 3.1, cSL mm = 0.6 BRAIN SPIRAL --> kV = 130, mAs/ref = 260, CTDIvol mGy = 69.75(S), DLP mGy*cm = 1484.93, TI s = 1.5, cSL mm = 0.
Avatar n tn My body did not tolerate the supraclavicular radiation well. It was painful and my clavicle and neck became swollen on the side of the radiation. I suffered from brachial plexopathy but had no residual effects. Actually a 2 months ago I was doing really good and felt I was back to normal. Nine months after radiation I started suffering from low body temps, always cold even after exercise, fatigue, itchiness all over, muscle and joint pain, insomnia, and headaches.
Avatar n tn I just found out in May that I have DCIS. I had a lumpectomy and then a re-excision to get larger margins. I'm starting radiation tomorrow. I read many, many research reports and had a friend help me do the statistics on absolute risks for Tamoxifen's benefits and side effects. I also read research studies on radiation and have talked to at least six friends who had radiation.
