Avatar n tn Plan on feeling good for that special day and pop that wig on your head and put some makeup on your face and take the time to make yourself so healthy that you nearly fool yourself! Every moment you can feel normal has a positive impact on your health! Yes, I know that nowadays many women wear their baldness proudly. I did not wear a wig at home, but when I was out socially, I got so tired of everyone talking about my cancer.
Avatar f tn The key here would be to have slides read by an expert and have a careful neck ultrasound before surgery to map out abnormal nodes and plan surgery. If the node is definite papillary cancer, then the surgery needs to be a total thryoidectomy, central compartment lymph node dissection and depending on where the node (that was biopsied) is located you may need a lateral neck dissection.
Avatar n tn Hi there. I'm not from the US but I found a great website to aid you in your search. The NCI has a list of these cancer centers which can be sorted out by state, name, or region. You can find the site here: http://cancercenters.cancer.gov/cancer_centers/index.html I hope that the biopsy can be done soon and everything will work out well. Regards.
Avatar n tn Since that time, some studies of industrial workers have suggested that formaldehyde exposure is associated with nasal cancer and nasopharyngeal cancer, and possibly with leukemia. In 1995, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded that formaldehyde is a probable human carcinogen. However, in a reevaluation of existing data in June 2004, the IARC reclassified formaldehyde as a known human carcinogen (2).
Avatar m tn a cancer patient (not ovarian) who died, researchers were allowed to explore her genome (the first time for a cancer) and explore how it worked against health tissue. They were surprised and admitted this proves how little we all know about cancer. Here is the link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27560127/ The one piece I took from the article is that with faster DNA sequencing, this can proablly be done on other cancers like ovarian...
167426 tn?1254086235 Epithelial ovarian cancer is the leading cause of gynecologic cancer deaths in the United States and three times more lethal than breast cancer. It is usually not diagnosed until its advanced stages and has come to be known as the "silent killer." This new phase II clinical trial led by Gil Mor, M.D., associate professor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Sciences at Yale, included 500 patients; 350 healthy controls and 150 ovarian cancer patients.
Avatar f tn Hi Debbie, I think that it's a very good idea to seek a Breast Specialist. To find one,you have several options. First, you could ask your treating family doctor or your Surgeon for a referral. You could also ask your county health department if there is a breast cancer hotline available in you area. Call the hotline for information about physicians in your community.

Over 1 million cases of hepatocellular carcinoma are reported annually worldwide. Current approaches for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma are of limited efficacy. According to the NCI, only 16% of patients diagnosed with primary liver cancer survive longer than 5 years.

Avatar n tn They clerk was able to look up my apointment and see that the dcotor has requested full head and neck. (not just sinus like I though) So looks like the CT scan will cover all possible areas where anything could be hiding, I feel assured with that. fingers crossed it is just a scarred node from my previous chemo / infections etc. Will post an update after my follow up appointment next week. Thanks for you insight, Nodes are not typically a Myeloma issue.

Avatar n tn I have a hard, non-tender lump on the right side of the back of my head down towards my neck. I noticed it in undergrad (4 years ago) and they took blood work. The NP said that my white count (i think) was slightly elevated, and that i probably had a virus lingering around, which would explain the swollen lymph node on the back of my head. It has never gone away. It has been there at least 4 years now. I have lately been SUPER fatigued.
Avatar m tn Whereas in the past, the “face” of head and neck cancer was a man in his 60s with a history of heavy smoking and alcohol consumption, the men diagnosed with HPV oropharyngeal cancer do not smoke heavily and may still be in their 50s or younger, although older men are also affected. Dr. Wirth explains that HPV cancers show a specific pattern as to where they arise.
Avatar n tn The general term used for babies who can not hold their head up well is head lag. At birth, all babies have head lag. Some control over head movement is reached by 8 weeks so that head lag lessens. By the age of 4-6 months, most babies should be able to hold their head up when pulled by their arms to a seated position. However, there is of course some variation between infants, and some may hold their head up earlier and some a little later.

Avatar f tn I was prescribed anti-depressents which calmed me but the headaches continued. I was then sent for a MRI head and neck scan without dye which came back clear. I have also had a ct scan of bowel and several other tests which again have been ok. I am now feeling sick but my GP will not send me for any more tests. I have a fear of cancer after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer ten years ago which turned out to be a complete mistake.
Avatar n tn Lymph nodes enlarge when there is an infection. The head and neck area have an extensive network of lymph nodes. These lymph nodes function like a filter, and thus increase in size in the presence of infection to filter out organisms. Even with treatment, some lymph nodes remain enlarged. A recurrent infection would further increase the size of the lymph node. However, there are other conditions that can present with lymph node enlargement. Head and neck malignancy is an example.
Avatar f tn You raise a great question, but the jury is still out on this issue. The effects of cellphone radiation on head and neck tumors has not been shown but also not been extensively studied." to my follow up question re 'can we test for this' and could there be a relation to the head jerking, he said: "There's no way to test for this, and I certainly don't think it has any relation to your head jerking." how would you feel?
Avatar n tn I live in Canada, and I have to pay out of pocket for Avastin. I've had my doctor appeal to the drug company themselves for more assistance with the enormous cost, but they just denied it. It is not indicated for use in ovarian cancer, so as far as they are concerned, I am taking it expierementally. I've talked to Cancer Care Ontario and they've told me I will not find coverage for it - it's just to expensive.

Avatar f tn However, adrenal involvement is commonplace for lung cancer and some centers would not evaluate further. If the size of the lung involvement is amenable to surgery then this would raise some doubt that the disease may not yet be metastatic. An imaging study like an MRI could raise further doubts and a biopsy of the adrenal could be done to make sure it is not really stage 4.
