Common Questions and Answers about Head and neck cancer lymph nodes

Avatar n tn Lymph nodes enlarge when there is an infection. The head and neck area have an extensive network of lymph nodes. These lymph nodes function like a filter, and thus increase in size in the presence of infection to filter out organisms. Even with treatment, some lymph nodes remain enlarged. A recurrent infection would further increase the size of the lymph node. However, there are other conditions that can present with lymph node enlargement. Head and neck malignancy is an example.
Avatar m tn Hi Your statement, "since august (3 moths now) i have like 4 lymph nodes on my neck" is incorrect, as you've head your lymph nodes since birth. I didn't read anything of concern for STDs.
Avatar m tn How to Know When to See a Doctor for Painful Lymph Nodes Your lymph nodes filter out bacteria and viruses from your body. Lymph nodes are located throughout your body, with the largest located under your arms, in your neck and in your groin. When lymph nodes are painful, it is a sign that you have some type of infection which the nodes are trying to fight off. The type and severity of the infection and the presence of accompanying symptoms determines when you should see a doctor.
623537 tn?1243564908 my son is 1, and just today i discovered that on his neck, behind his ear, on the base of his head he has swollen lymph nodes. it is just on one side of his neck although the one at the very bottom of his head i am nto sure if it is a swollen lymph node or not because there is one on the other side just not as big. i m very concerned as my father passed away from cancer 6 yrs ago. they are soft and move around and do not seem to hurt him.
Avatar n tn I have a few questions that I cannot seem to find answers to concerning lymph nodes. Particularly the lymph nodes of the neck and the lower back of the head. The doctors, understandably, are very vague in their responses. My story is as follows. I am a 42 year old male. I smoked for about 18 years and have been quit for about 9 years. I eat right, excercise. I have had swollen lymph nodes in the neck and back of my head for several months now.
Avatar m tn But steroids didnt clear it up. Its still happening!! Ive got swollen lymph nodes in neck and groin, had ultrasound and it showed swollen lymph nodes but not large enough to worry about. that was 4 weeks ago and theyve not got bigger but theyve got harder. not painful and i can move them about but im dead worried ive got lymphoma cancer. Ive had loads of blood tests and all normal....but would lymphoma really show up in blood tests?
Avatar f tn Get a complete ENT and dental check up before you think of cancer as the cause— less likely as the lymph nodes swell and subside too. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do discuss with your doctor. Take care!
880691 tn?1240444800 I also have been having some dizziness and sharp pains in my head and neck. The pain is moderate but im not sure whay to think of it. I just went to the doctor and she thinks i might have vertigo but i have yet to go to the ent. i got blood work done with a cbc diff and everything came back normal but i am still concerned.
Avatar f tn it was only then it was found to be cancer I had a total thyroidectomy and 6 lymph nodes removed in june and am now awaiting radiation therapy
Avatar n tn The extent of the surgery performed depends on individual features of the tumor as well as the judgment the surgeon makes during surgery in order to determine if the papillary thyroid cancer has spread to the opposite lobe or to the lymph nodes in the neck. More extensive surgery is associated with higher complication rates and thus many surgeons who are inexperienced in thyroid surgery choose to remove less thyroid tissue in order to decrease the complication rates.
Avatar f tn sooooo its going to be my 12th week of tx and along the way i have developed enlarged lymph nodes around my neck.....had 10 days of antibiotics and still no reduction in the lymph nodes.....i have to go for a biopsy to rule out lymphoma...pretty scary....but i was wondering if anyone heard any cases like this while under hep c tx...ribavirin and interferon....my NP said interferon usually worsens any underlying illnesses but im not sure if this enlargement will ever go away....
Avatar n tn I have had swollen lymph nodes in my neck since my childhood. They get larger when I have infection/illness. The last few months I have added swollen lymph nodes along my collar bone mainly in the left should, but there is some on the right. Do I need to push harder to have the lymph nodes test. Not thinking cancer, but it is hopeful that once they biopsy the nodes, they can get a understanding of why. I am interested in what others say to you on what you have.
Avatar f tn Slowly, as time progressed, more nodes began to propagate throughout my body to the point where I got really anxious. As of right now, I have nodes pretty much everywhere, neck, back of head, ears, under the collar bone, armpit, and groin. I have 4 on the back of my head, probably 6 around my neck, some near my ears, 4-5 under my jaw, 3-4 under my collar bone, 1 under my armpit, and about 5 around my groin.
Avatar f tn Hi, Not all nodules refer cancer. Depends if you find an enlargement with the thyroid being palpated or not. Or a solitary where thyroid is not palpated. The common way of recognizing thyroid cancer is the visibility of the lump when swallowing. No not all nodules and lymph node abnormalities relate to cancer. Thyroglossal Cyst may present with an enlargement . If u have a fever or sore throat, may have presence of abnormal nodes.
400195 tn?1253745062 I had a total thyroidectomy three weeks ago and I too felt that I had to keep my head tilted forward all the time because when it wasn't forward I would feel pulling in the area of the incision. I didn't have stitches, I had the Derma-bond glue, but still had that feeling. I felt like my neck was somewhat swollen but when I returned to my surgeon one week post surgery, he checked it out and said it was fine.
Avatar f tn t want to do a biopsy of one of your enlarged lymph nodes. If he suspects a blood cancer, that is the only definative way of diagnosing it. I think a specialist is good and hopefully he or she is able to get to the bottom of what's going on with you. I'm assuming you have already seen the specialist by now? Waiting for a diagnosis is very hard, I know. I went through it myself.
Avatar f tn I have swollen lymph nodes in my neck I already know I have lung cancer, but my jaw hurts and the lymph nodes hurt, should I be concerned?
Avatar f tn Yesterday I noticed a large lump on the side of my neck which I assume is a swollen lymph node. The connection of lymph nodes and cancer has made me an emotional wreck. And GOOGLE. ....Google is bad when it comes to self diagnosing! I made an apt with my GP for today to check out lump. Should I let my Gyn know too? I am in a bit of panic and just wanted to express my concerns to an understanding crowd.
Avatar n tn It started on the right side of my neck and quickly spread to other lymph nodes in the neck and then groin. I do not feel anything in the armpits. Currently I have persistent pain/discomfort in the lymph nodes in the neck and groin area. Sometimes the pain is like a pinch and goes away in 1-2 seconds (more in the groin area), but mostly I would have a dull ache in one area in the neck ALL day long. The pain is not severe but it creates discomfort and drives me crazy.
393685 tn?1425812522 A while back I had a sinus infection that drained into my jaw and lymph nodes in my neck that hurt sooooo bad I was crying in agony. Could stand to even move my head or talk. I put really hot compresses on the areas to help them drain and take the soreness out. I used towels I had put in the microwave to wrap around my neck and against my face. The prednisone may have been masking this, but now it's out of your system so the pain is there. Hope the drs come up with something soon.
Avatar n tn For the past year, he has been noticing that his lymph nodes in his neck and throat are extremely swollen, and very firm to the touch. He got them checked out when he first noticed them (one year ago), they took some of the tissue and said it wasn't cancer. We were extremely relieved. They also said they would go away. They haven't, and in fact they've multiplied. He is under a lot of stress, so I am trying to convince myself it is just that. We're both healthy 20-somethings.
Avatar n tn Hi. I have been a tired lately and a few weeks ago I noticed a swollen lymph node on the right side of my neck. It's about 1,5cm. I can't feel lymph nodes on the other side of my neck and the lymph nodes on my joints feel a lot smaller. I have also been itching a lot for a month now on my arms, shoulders, legs and chest. I didn't think it was abnormal until i got really tired and noticed the lymph node. Moisturizing it doesn't work for it. Should I be worried or go to the doctor?
1503643 tn?1311518238 I have had cervical cancer, thyroid cancer that metastisized to the lymph nodes in 2003. radiation and 5 surgeries on my neck. I was told that I no longer have thyroid cancer. Biopsies taken back in April said lymphoid proliferation and lymphoid dysplasia. I was told that I have a virus. Then when I saw the doctors last week. They said the swollen lymph nodes have been going on too long to be a virus that it looks like lymphoma. We are going to do another cbc at the end of the month.
