Avatar m tn They recomend radiation therapy. Will this help to improve her quality of life and perhaps extend her life, and I would like to know realistically what her life expectancy is with this diagnosis. Avatar f tn My mother in law is 85. About 9 years ago she had breast cancer and went through a mastectomy. The doctor said her cancer is back but it is in her lymph nodes now. They said they couldn't treat her due to her age. How long can someone expect to live with untreated cancer?
Avatar n tn My father was just diagnosed with Stage IV non small cell lung cancer. It has spread to the lymph nodes on the right side and to his right adreanal gland. He has yet to start treatments. He's 55 years old and a smoker. His general health other than this cancer is good. What is the life expectancy if he doesn't do treatment vs. having treatment.
Avatar n tn Hi, The chemotherapy would have immediate and delayed effects. Some of the immediate side effects like nausea and vomiting already have fairly good medications to counter the adverse experience of treatment. The other symptoms such as fatigability still need much work (put another way, this is something the patient has to deal with). The best demonstration of the treatment working would be to identify some of the symptoms before.
Avatar n tn He was having a really bad week this last week and we saw the doctor today. He has a 5 centimeter size tumor and all of the lymph nodes in the neck and chest area also have the cancer in them. He took very high doses of chemo all summer and the last petscan we did in sept. showed that the were no changes and it had actually spread to a couple of different places one being the scapulus. He has pretty much stopped eating and we can barely get any fluid in him.

Avatar n tn Mom also has survived cancer, and triple bypass, and has diabetes. What is the life expectancy once you reach the final stages of copd? Will it be the copd that finally takes, her or will it be another part of the body that fails? OH, and she is severly anemic due to a loss of iron somewhere in the body.
Avatar n tn I am interested in finding out what is the average life expectancy of people having HBV? I acquired the infection at an age of 29 years.....I am now 31 years old.....I am Hbeag -ve, Hbsag +ve, Anti Hbeag +ve, HBV load 3400 copies/ml how bad does this look?
Avatar m tn org/wiki/HIV#Prognosis quotes studies showing a life-time expectancy of as much as 50 years from infection. There is undoubtly going to be great further advances in HIV treatment in the years to come. And some scientists haven't even given up on finding a functional cure or even drugs that would allow full erradication of HIV from the body.
Avatar n tn I have a very close friend who was just diagnosed with either stage 3b or 4 squamous cell lung cancer. I am trying to find information about his life expectancy, in order to help family make plans. He is 58 yrs old and has asthma, sleep apnea, diabetes and is overweight. He was diagnosed by cancer cells removed from a pleural effusion of blood and fluid. They inserted 2 chest tubes to drain it, after 2 days one tube was removed because the fluid was greatly decreased; 1 tube remained.
Avatar n tn It is not possible to put a time on someones life with heart disease. With illnesses like cancer it can be a bit easier in some cases. Research is continuing into heart disease day after day and new discoveries are being found all the time. It was only recently for example that a gene was discovered that is a culprit for causing heart disease. This gene was found in dogs, and was then found to exist the same in humans.
Avatar f tn He has metastasis of lymph nodes and bones. The doctors have not given us any kind of life expectancy. Did anyone have experiences that can share with me about the patient's life expectancy under this kind of condition?
Avatar m tn It depends on how healthy you stay. If you do all you can to keep weight down and take care of the diabetes. The diabetes is what you have to worry about. MS may not affect your life expectancy at all. When I was diagnosed with MS I decided I needed to reduce the chances of other disease so I cleaned up my diet, lost weight and started exercising. It was hard at first but I am glad I did it. Taking care of ourselves makes the difference with any illness.
Avatar n tn I recently had a heart attack and had a stent put in. I've quit smoking, am very active and eat a pretty healthy diet and I'm 56 years old. How does my life expectancy compare to the "average"? This discussion is related to Life expectancy after heart attack and stent .
4173379 tn?1355356551 Hi there, in hemochromatosis, the degree of iron accumulation in all organs, joints, tissues, not just the liver, leading to many other diseases like diabetes and cirrhosis and heart failure, determines the outcome. A person's life expectancy depends on detection and treatment of the iron overload...when not detected in early stages to prevent further damage and disease life expectancy is greatly reduced. Cirrhosis is only one of the complications/results of iron overload.
Avatar n tn I would like to know what a persons life expectancy is if they have only 36% heart function. This person has cancer and takes medication for it, also has had a lung removed due to cancer.
220090 tn?1379167187 EPO is primarily given to cancer patients and people with kidney failure, so you won't see much about non cancer patients. People on dialysis have a life expectancy of about two years on average; not long enough to see if cancer will develop. I think that if it stimulates cancer growth,it is reasonable to think that it might stimulate a cancer that was not viable to grow enough to develop a blood supply.
Avatar m tn s head has touched, (including car seats), and wash all the bedding and pillows, and vacuum the mattresses, or your problem will be bigger than just one child pretty soon, sorry to say.
Avatar f tn If you get cured before developing cirrhosis your liver will slowly regenerate itself once the virus is gone and your life expectancy should gradually return to somewhere near what it would have been without the virus. If one already has cirrhosis there is less certainty regarding regeneration, but at least the liver is no longer under attack and has a chance at becoming healthy again, although I think one will continue to carry a higher than normal risk of liver cancer.
Avatar n tn What is the projected life expectancy of an 81 year old in good health except for COPD?
612551 tn?1450022175 Thanks, I've taken careful note of your valuable advice. We are continuing treatment and hope to see more improvement in the CT planned for September/October... not sure what drives the exact date. I continue to try to emphasize the positive, and to remind myself "life is short" and there is not time to "sweat the small stuff". I think this makes me easier to live with and that adds to her quality of life and, I hope, strengthens her body's defenses.
Avatar m tn I have read several websites who claim that Scoliosis decreases your life expectancy by 14.8 years, which all reference the same study. However, other websites, including wiki, claim that it has no effect on life expectancy and say that it is a myth. This is also backed up by a study done by Iowa University. Also, the study that claims that Scoliosis decreases your life by 14.8 years says that the patients were untreated.
