Avatar m tn At the end the hospice folks did only comfort measures - a catheter for his bladder and pain meds, keeping him positioned with pillows to avoid sores and creams for his skin. There was no feeding tube, no IV. And when he did pass, the hospice nurse was right there with him. She noticed his breathing had changed and stayed there. She called us immediately. At least look over the form, see what you think. And if you think he'll end up with hospice care, see what they allow or disallow.
Avatar m tn 1. While and ICD implant is a procedure, it is not really surgery. And ICD is typically placed on one day and pt goes home the next. Usually no anesthesia is needed. Risk is very minimal. 2. If your ejection fraction is low, the ICD will serve as an "insurance policy"--ie hopefully you'll never need it but you'd be sure glad you had it if your heart "tried to die" on you 3.
Avatar m tn I have a pressure all around my neck at the base of my head and up into my head. I find it difficult to see and concentrate. I can't wear anything around my neck or necklaces or earnings. I have had my ICD off for 8mths as I was waiting for a new one to be implanted and during this time all the pain went. Previously I had been to everyone I could imagine to find out what was wrong and no answer. I have now had a new implant and 4 weeks on all the bad sensations have returned.
Avatar f tn I have had an enlarged lymph node in my neck (under jaw line between cheek and ear) for at least ten years, probably closer to 15 years. It came about after a bout of either strep throat or mononucleosis and when I asked my then doctor (at Kaiser Permanente) about it, he responded that it was scar tissue from an infection. It has never decreased in size and only increases slightly in size when I'm sick with a sore throat or tonsilitis.
Avatar f tn Started off as a knot on the back of my head right where necks start on the bottom of head.. then I noticed I had a tiny knot in my neck. Did some research and cancer started to pop up on the Internet.. I freaked out and anxiety went into overdrive.. doctor examined me and thought it was due to allergies.. got cat scan and the side with knot the lymph nodes and glands was bigger but they said they didn’t see anything wrong ..
Avatar m tn They actually took him off hospice care for a few days, replaced his ICD with a plain pacemaker and then put him back on hospice. He did quite well with just that and eventually died from cancer a year or so later. How long a battery lasts depends on how much it's used. Like a flashlight, if you use it all night, the batteries will run down quickly. If you only use it once a year, it will last a very long time. With average use a pacemaker/ICD tends to last about 5 years.
554422 tn?1220575366 I had a head-on MVA wherein I broke my neck and I believe the heart was damaged due to BFT (blunt force trauma). Cardio's say that is definitely possible, but without prior reference for heart, hard to prove. ( I was very healthy prior to acc, so no tests whatsoever needed for heart or otherwise - so nothing to compare to ). Day of acc, chest x-ray said heart 'looked' ok, so I think the damage went under the radar, until years later .
621386 tn?1221532483 I wish you the best of luck and go get a head and neck cancer specialist to check you out completlyl! I would demand it we even had to travel out of our area to a cancer treatment center.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your help. To answer your ?'s I take elmiron for my ICD and I take spirolactone for the water weight problem and high blood pressure. I will be going for my yearly check up with my urologist so I will talk to him about. I will also go ahead get my self to the obgyn.
Avatar f tn I am having a hard time with this, as I am newly married and we want to start a family and this would be my first pregnancy. I was diagnosed a year and a half ago and I am stable and on meds. Could our dream ever become or reality?
Avatar n tn He was having v-tach quite often and he also ended up with an ICD. After about 5 years with the ICD his heart started to fail pretty badly. The docs even put him on hospice care. Part of the problem was my Dad's reluctance to switch his meds. He was comfortable with the meds he had and didn't want to bother with the side effects of new meds. After doing a face plant in the hospital parking lot one day, he agreed to switch to the Amiodarone.
444864 tn?1205155893 The last time I passed out in the shower and smashed my head and teeth (broke one tooth)...I woke up in the bottom of the tub...scared to death. I guess passing out is what scares me the most. I am having alot of anxiety about passing out and hurting myself again. I realize the ICD is a life saving device and am so thankful to have one. Without it...I would not be here. Do you know of any websites that have information on ICD's??
Avatar n tn My Dad had 4 heart attacks and had an ICD put in. It was a big help. In the end he passed away from cancer; his heart held up through all of that illness.
Avatar n tn I have a hard, non-tender lump on the right side of the back of my head down towards my neck. I noticed it in undergrad (4 years ago) and they took blood work. The NP said that my white count (i think) was slightly elevated, and that i probably had a virus lingering around, which would explain the swollen lymph node on the back of my head. It has never gone away. It has been there at least 4 years now. I have lately been SUPER fatigued.
Avatar m tn Whereas in the past, the “face” of head and neck cancer was a man in his 60s with a history of heavy smoking and alcohol consumption, the men diagnosed with HPV oropharyngeal cancer do not smoke heavily and may still be in their 50s or younger, although older men are also affected. Dr. Wirth explains that HPV cancers show a specific pattern as to where they arise.
Avatar n tn The general term used for babies who can not hold their head up well is head lag. At birth, all babies have head lag. Some control over head movement is reached by 8 weeks so that head lag lessens. By the age of 4-6 months, most babies should be able to hold their head up when pulled by their arms to a seated position. However, there is of course some variation between infants, and some may hold their head up earlier and some a little later.
Avatar f tn Other symptoms followed - occasional tinnitus in my left ear, noticeable eye floaters in my left eye, slightly blurred vision, a feeling of pressure throughout my head, neck pain, tingling at the top of my head, pain behind my left eye... and the constant lightheadedness. Once again the symptoms seem to be worse with movement. The only time I have relief is when I lay down and don't move my head. I have had blood work done - all normal.
Avatar f tn Can anyone please help? My mother is 72 years old. She had an ICD implanted in October of 2009. On January 4, 2010, her ICD went off 37 times in 20 minutes due to fatal v-tach. Her cardiologist put her on amiodorone and lopressor. She came home January 15, 2010, and the medicine is working.
Avatar f tn Hi all, Has anyone ever heard of breast cancer (IBC or other) spreading up the neck to cause neck, ear, and head pain on that side? I have a swollen axillary node and pain in my breast and up my neck to my ear and head and nobody can figure it out, even breast specialists. Does this sound famiiar to anyone? Thanks so much for any info.
Avatar n tn ll have to watch your post to see if you get a knowledgeable answer, but offer in advance the opinion that there is no relationship between a dental implant and an ICD. I could be wrong, but offer this positive view to help hold you over to other experience based inputs. Hope you get one or more.
Avatar m tn Again and as in different kind now I’ve got a severe neck tightness while I’m in morning walk and rushed to hosp. then admitted and implanted Two Stents on 19/10/2016 and diagnosed as: #S/p CAG (19/10/2016)-LMCA+Two Vessel Disease,Patent LIMA to LAD,SVG to Diagonal and RAMUS.
Avatar f tn Doctor then recommended that I get an implantable defibrillator coz my VT could lead to sudden death. I accepted to have the ICD installed and this was done 10 days ago. I am now getting used to life with and ICD. I still have questions as follows: 1. I am still keen to hve catheter ablation carried out in next 24 months when i am off medications. Is this advisable? 2. If Catheterablation is successful, I would want the ICD removed as its very restrictive to my normal activities?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed anti-depressents which calmed me but the headaches continued. I was then sent for a MRI head and neck scan without dye which came back clear. I have also had a ct scan of bowel and several other tests which again have been ok. I am now feeling sick but my GP will not send me for any more tests. I have a fear of cancer after being diagnosed with ovarian cancer ten years ago which turned out to be a complete mistake.
Avatar n tn Lymph nodes enlarge when there is an infection. The head and neck area have an extensive network of lymph nodes. These lymph nodes function like a filter, and thus increase in size in the presence of infection to filter out organisms. Even with treatment, some lymph nodes remain enlarged. A recurrent infection would further increase the size of the lymph node. However, there are other conditions that can present with lymph node enlargement. Head and neck malignancy is an example.
Avatar f tn You raise a great question, but the jury is still out on this issue. The effects of cellphone radiation on head and neck tumors has not been shown but also not been extensively studied." to my follow up question re 'can we test for this' and could there be a relation to the head jerking, he said: "There's no way to test for this, and I certainly don't think it has any relation to your head jerking." how would you feel?
Avatar f tn I’m a 51 year old man who was a competitive long distance runner until 2012 when I suddenly went into VT during a 10k. I had an ICD put in and was still running, though not as intensely and not as far. Recently I had some episodes, even at rest, and was put in this Solotal just yesterday. I hope I’ll be able to run still. I’ll understand if it’s not too much.
