Common Questions and Answers about Having sex before birth control

Avatar f tn It is recommended that someone starting on the "birth control pill" waits 2 full menstrual cycles before relying solely on it for birth control. Condoms are encouraged until completion of the second cycle. And remember that the "pill" isn't 100% effective, only 98% and doesn't provide any protection against STD's. Also when taking any antibiotics with the pill, it lowers the effectiveness and so does having diarrhea or vomiting as it is not absorbed in the system.

Avatar f tn I have a question! I was on the nexplonan and birth control pills. I stopped taking to birth control pills two days before I had sex. I didn't use protection. I'm having symptoms like the did with my first one. Is there anyway I could be pregnant?
Avatar n tn If you plan on breast feeding, breast feeding is a natural birth control. But once you get your first period, then you'll have to think about ieth control. Other than that, it will be a while before you start having sex again...unless you're having a c-section. Good luck and congratulations.

Most women get their period during the placebo week. Are you taking the 21 or 28 day pack?
Avatar f tn Has any 2+ time moms received birth control before your 6 week check up? When I had my first son 7 years ago I was given the depo shot in the hospital. When I had my second last year I didn't even think to ask my doctor for birth control before 6 weeks and me and my bf started having sex after about 2 weeks then at my 6 week check up I couldn't get BC because they said my bp was too high I ended up pregnant again when my son was 5 months.
5069617 tn?1366659785 t started BC til 2 or 3 days ago we were worried I was pregnant before I started the birth control. If I am pregnant will the BC hurt the baby?
Avatar f tn does anyone know, when you start taking birth control, how long before it starts becoming effective? i mean, does it start working right away or do you need to be on it for a while before it works properly?
Avatar f tn My boyfriend and I finally had sex. Ive been on birth control for a month and he used a condom. After the first time I didnt bleed. Partly because he was really afraid of hurting me. Two days later we did again. The next day I started bleeding and bled for 4 or 5 days as heavy as i would if i had been on my period. i still had several days before my birth control was up for the month and now i'm really worried about not getting my period.
1594373 tn?1297225786 Though if you are really worried, take a home pregnancy test to find out. You can take a home pregnancy test 2 weeks after having sex and get an accurate result. And if you have any questions about your birth control(the shot), don't be afraid to call your doctor and ask questions.
Avatar f tn Day one of your period is the first day of your cycle and then you begin having sex on cycle day 10 every other day for the next 10 days. good luck and hope you are pregnant soon.
Avatar n tn When you say "birth control," I'm assuming you mean oral contraceptives (birth control pills). It's important to know that you can get pregnant if you don't follow the instructions carefully. Some women have become pregnant simply because they forgot to take their pill for ONE day. Having said that, if you ARE using them correctly and have been for several cycles, then your chances of pregnancy are almost nil.
Avatar f tn I live in AZ and you have to have your parents with ya before your 18. I hope you change your mind about having sex.. It feels a lot better when you are married hun! At 16 the consequences are just not worth a guy that is most likely only interested in sex!
Avatar n tn Me and my girlfriend just had sex without the use of a condom. She missed three days of her birth control prior to taking them the last 4 days. I pulled out before "going" but noticed my sperm on me afterwards. Could my girlfriend get pregnant.
Avatar f tn I am 21 and have been on birth control pills since I was 14, I am wanting to try and get pregnant, how long after stopping the birth control does it normally take??
Avatar f tn I am planning to get rid of this IUD. Please help me if any one else having this kind of issues. Any other suggations for birth control.
Avatar f tn Being on birth control does not mean in any way that you should have sex. In fact you should NOT have sex for at least a few years yet. The birth control won't hurt you, and you will always know when your period is due, which is very handy.
Avatar f tn I have some info on my profile about breastfeeding as a form of birth control. It's in my 'journals'. My midwife told me that estrogen free birth control is the safest while nursing. Estrogen can dry up your milk and if it doesn't, might cause issues with baby. Estrogen free versions include the paragaurd iud, the depo shot, and the 'mini pill' (progesterone only daily pill). I'd definitely decide what you want to do before baby comes!
Avatar f tn I am a week away from my period, just started taking birth control. My partner and I have sex on a regular basis but we take measures to assure that pregnancy won't happen easily. I have brown discharge today. It felt like the feeling I get right before my period and it happened right after I came back from my walk. I just had my regular pap smear in August and I was wondering if I should be worried. Please comment! It would be greatly appreciated!

7670156 tn?1401987192 re all pregnant and all, but yesterday at my check up my doctor said I should start thinking about what kind of birth control I want after my baby girl is here. I've never been on birth control (and still did very well, baby was planned) what do you ladies suggest worked best for you? I don't want to worry about another baby for a long while at least a few years. And that implant that goes in your arm scares me.
Avatar n tn I would say you do have a higher chance of getting pregnant during the placebo week than you normally would since this is your first month on the pill. The placebo week is meant to keep you on track with your pills. During the placebo week is when you are supposed to be menstruating. If you didnt m enstruate during that time you could possibly have ovulated. Even while you are on the pill I would recommend using a condom also...pills are not 100% effective.
