Avatar n tn Hi, The best way to treat dandruff is to use a dandruff shampoo. Look for shampoos with ingredients such as zinc pyrithone, salicyclic acid, coal tar, selenium silfide, or ketoconazole. All of these ingredients have been shown to work on dandruff; to use the shampoo, apply it to your scalp and hair, rub vigorously, and allow it to sit for five minutes so that the ingredients can work before rinsing it out.
Avatar n tn t anything visible except dandruff, so is my hair loss without scalp disease? My father has dandruff too but not hair loss. so, is my hair loss associated with tinea? Once I did take pills suggested by a dermatologist but that did not really help.
Avatar n tn You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription). If your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur.
Avatar f tn Just a question, is it dandruff (oily hair) or dry scalp (no moisture). I'd also like to add that head and shoulders is one of the worst shampoos you can use because of the wax that coats your hair. Maybe try cutting back on shampoos each week and use a moisturizing conditioner if your hair is excessively oily. You can tell its dandruff or dry scalp by the colour and if there is a smell present or not. Dandruff is yellowish and gives off an odour.
Avatar n tn Hello, It can be due to dandruff, eczema or fungal infection. Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales. Eat a healthy diet. Avatar n tn External causes include excessive use of hair sprays and gels, improper use of hair-coloring products, cold weather and dry indoor heating, infrequent shampooing of the hair or inadequate rinsing of the scalp and hair. Sometimes an allergy to dairy products, nuts and chocolates may cause dandruff, in which case you should avoid them for about eight weeks to be able to access its effect. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin.
Avatar f tn And when the bottle says lather rinse repeat actually repeat. Lol. For dry scalp dandruff you canuse mayo on your hair coat scalp and hhair leave on for 15 min rinse off. Or 3tbsp olive oil one egg and I think it was a tbsp of vinegar and put that on your hair leave on for 15 and rinse. These are easy recipes you can find online.
Avatar m tn I wish I also had thick hair like you but whatever little I had…. I had to save them. So After the dandruff treatment I continued my treatment for hair fall which has also reduced to a significant percent. He will also suggest or infact give you a chart to follow a proper diet pattern. So if you too believe in homeopathy I would suggest you to try him. I would have loved to give you the name of the anti-fungal tablets but sorry to say that his medicines are not available in the market.

Avatar f tn I have 4-5 such patches on my scalp and every time i brush my hair, a lot of dandruff comes out. Someone please advise!
1392168 tn?1280074408 They are mostly light, and flakey, so flakes come off like dandruff. Even if I spend months not itching them, there are still some there. Sometimes, it's better than others and clears up. But it seems to be a constant problem, because, if I get rid of one patch there's just another somewhere else. They are not really itchy unless I think about them, even then It's overcomeable. Not like how a rash might itch. I also have dyed my hair a few times and used bleach.

Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. If the symptoms persist, then it would be best to get it confirmed from a dermatologist.Hope it helps. Hope it helps.Kind regards.
1486982 tn?1289461783 I have had an itchy scalp and dandruff. My hair is healthy and becomes oily very easily. I have picked up some Tgel, but wanted to know if nayone had any other options on what works. Head and shoulders does nothing but make my hair very oily. ANy suggestions woudl be appreciated.
Avatar m tn i am suffering from dandruff from las two months and due this only there is hair loss too. i am using NIZOLE shampoo.but it is not working.
Avatar n tn shoulders shampoo and salicylic acid shampoo and Ketokenazole 2% for the dandruff and that they did not know what was wrong with me. All these shampoos just made my hair fall out more and gave me more dandruff. So yet again I went to a different dermatologist, who said that I was experiencing the hair loss because of the dandruff/seborrhea. Which does not make sense, since I was experiencing hair loss 1 year prior to when the dandruff started (due to use of prescribed shampoos).
Avatar m tn While there is nothing much you can do to make the hair grow faster you can do a lot to improve the quality and quantity of hair. Head massage help and so does regular combing of hair. However, undue force should not be used. You could take iron and multivitamin pill. Keep the hair and scalp clean. Use mild shampoo. And, get a blood test done to see whether anemia, diabetes or hypothyroidism is the cause of hair fall. Also, rule out the possibility of dandruff as the cause.
Avatar f tn I'm not sure if this is the right forum to be in, but my issue is w dandruff. I have dry scalp and I'm not to sure what to do about it. I'm African American and I only get my hair washed when I go to the salon so that's 2 times outta the month. In btwn my salon visits I don't p ut any grease or oil on my scalp bc I hate the way it makes my hair feel heavy. However, my scalp is really dry...very flaky and if u look at it...it seems like my scalp is scaled over!
