1720613 tn?1309432604 Proper nutrition means to accentuate the positive when it comes to food. I dislike the word diet. “Diet” implies a rigorous, self-sacrificial discipline that’s doomed to fail. Instead, focus on achieving food goals of what you should eat each day rather than what you shouldn’t eat.
Avatar n tn I found out I was bp about 6 months ago and have tried a number of meds and nothing is working. I also have anxiety issues. I have had anxiety for a long time but it was misdiagnosed. Avatar m tn The dietitians recommendation, based on a study published in the Journal of American Nutrition and Diet, recommends a high calcium and oxalate diet on the theory that such a diet will have the calcium and oxalate combine in the digestive track before they get to the kidney. An additional concern is that the urologist recommended diet cuts out many food groups that I have come to believe are good for you: whole wheat bread and pasta, beans, leafy green vegetables, nuts, green tea, chocolate.
Avatar m tn It depends. If your parents had diabetes or you have a family history of diabetes you have a higher chance of getting diabetes than one who hasn't. One way is you can inherit their diabetes genes [testing can determine this], another way, as most children do, you picked up their bad lifestyle habits voluntarily or involuntarily.
Avatar n tn In fact, your BUN creatinine ratio appears to be elevated. Athough you have mentioned that you are currently on a high protein diet which may explain most of these symptoms, I still suggest that you be further evaluated. What was the indication for your high protein diet? Would you know what your GFR or Glomerular Filtration Rate is ? Are you hypertensive or diabetic? Any underlying systemic disease aside from the thyroid problem? Discuss these results with your physician.

Avatar n tn Dear winkster, Actually a diabetic diet is really only what a healthy diet would be for people without diabetes. And fruits are a part of that even though they have sugar it get metabolized like any other carbohydrates.

Avatar n tn We have a diabetic cat which I monitor frequently using a OneTouchUltra meter at home. Today my daughter cut her finger sufficient enough to produce a large glob of blood. Being a curious six-year-old, she asked me to test her blood. I said sure and was shocked to receive a reading of 156.
8369322 tn?1397826669 0, I was given 90 days to see a significant drift downward, or begin a drug therapy. I immediately began a paleo style diet. I refused to eat anything containing "white"; bread, sugar, rice, potatoes, pasta...PASTA!!. I also shunned grains of any kind like rolled oats, wheat. Also out were honey, most fruits, lots of types of beans, peas, and corn. All fruit juices were banished. Do you realize how many oranges you must consume to yield a large glass of orange juice?

738822 tn?1264908407 It's not the end of the line. You can live a relatively normal life if you take regular glucose readings, follow dietary recomendations, excercise moderately, and follow your physician's guidelines. The best thing is to find a local diabetic facility that will provide you with training, feedback, and weekly monitoring until things get settled down.
Avatar n tn Hi- mind flush09- I am not a physician, but a mom of a child with diabetes. Did they tell you if you were borderline Type 1 or Type 2. The two types are totally different. In type one the body stops producing insulin and a person needs to either take shots or have an insulin pump to get the insulin needed to live. Type 2 diabetes, the body produces insulin, but cannot use it properly with out medications, usually oral medication.
Avatar n tn If possible, meet with a diabetic educator who can help you establish a quality meal plan. Eating just tuna will not drop your blood sugar levels. You need to eat a well balanced diet. YOu can also go on the American Diabetes Association website for some nutritional guidelines. However, you need to speak with someone ASAP so that you can start to get your sugars under control and regular. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Fiber-rich foods such as vegetables, nuts, legumes and whole grain products help to control blood sugar levels and are excellent choices as part of a diabbetic diet. Fish are a good source of protein and a healthy alternative to higher-fat options such as red meat.
Avatar f tn I am a type II diabetic and I would like to know what is considered a "good" blood sugar reading for me when I test at different times of the day....before meals, after meals, fasting in the morning, at bedtime and other random times during the day.
Avatar n tn Never told me to check my sugars even when she put me on metfromin. I asked my place of employment for a meter and only test once in a while due to the expense of test strips and lancets. I don't feel well, I'm always tired and seem to pick up every thing that goes around in the community. This is the second time I'm fighting an upper resp infection and it's been over a week. My family doctor put me on bactrim for it but still not feeling good.
Avatar n tn According to the literature my doctor gave me with the American Diabetes Association's guidelines, an A1C under 6.0 is considered normal. From 6.1 to 6.4 is considered pre-diabetic. A reading of 6.5 or higher is considered diabetes. Hope this helps. You seem fine by these guidelines.
Avatar f tn My doctor had said that when on medication your placenta may start to deteriorate so they induce a week or so early. With gd you have a chance of a large baby. But if you are controlled then the baby's weight will be of normal range. I'm diabetic before pregnancy and on insulin following a diet as well as excercise.
Avatar m tn A cohort of 613 patients with chronic hepatitis B at a single regional hospital in Japan was studied. Patients who were positive for HBeAg and had persistently normal value of ALT (immune-tolerant) were not included. Patients were screened for HCC for the average period of 5.5 years. The guideline criteria for antiviral treatment were applied to this cohort to evaluate their efficacy in identifying patients at risk for HCC.
