For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!

The name Robitussin was used in the title of this FAQ as it is a common brand of cough syrup in the United States. It is used on the fertility boards and newsgroups in the same manner as saying Band-Aid for an adhesive strip used to cover a cut. So I currently have a sore throat, and 5 days my doctor gave me dextromethorphan syrup to treat it. I went back today again because my sore throat didn't go away, and a different doctor (in the same clinic) got me this thymol gargle that contained alcohol. The dextromethorphan specifically stated to avoid alcoholic drinks, so can I use both dextromethorphan and the alcoholic throat gargle together?

I've had a really bad cold this past week and have been taking a cough syrup with Dextromethorphan in it. I also have an ileal pouch (no large bowel) and have had 'problems' at night the last couple of nights that I've taken the cough syrup. Amazingly though, my fibro pain has been extremely low.

I've been waking up with a runny nose and a sore throat... which means is about to get bad. Can I take anything to prevent it getting bad?

I took over the counter generic mucinex with only active ingredient guafenesin in Oct. and got my BFP in Nov. So, I can't say it helped but who knows. I did notice more CM throughout my cycle and not really being dry like I'm used to. LOL I hope this helps. I have heard people talk about pre-seed and EPO too. Doesn't hurt to try stuff. Take tylonal cold/flu and vitamin c, and drink Orange juice and get as much sleep as you can. That's what my doctor said bc im 38 weeks and had a cold for a week. I don't know if robitussun is to good for you while your pregnant.

Well as happens I am taking the medication for different reason and different form (pill format and control of dystonic spasms) and I've taken it as a cough medicine in the past and at prescription dosages it can have side effects of concern in higher dosages.

ve started on the generic of mucinex and it only has 400 MG of ONLY GUAIFENESIN. I would say ask your doctor and if they say you shouldn't take it because of birth defects then don't. Also, remember you're only supposed to take it 5 days before O and some doc's say you can take it the day after O. This is because sperm may live up to 5 days in the fertile rich CM. Just a note...

Hey! I feel for you...broken ribs AND a cough is wicked! I'd stay a mile away from the codeine cough syryp because it's an opiate and a lot of people really like it...it could hurt your clean time. Codeine is a cough suppressant and it works well in cough syrup but not for us addicts. I agree with pharma9. Get some cough syrup with dextromethorphan and guaifenesin and take as directed.

I accidently took too much once and it scared me to death... the Dextromethorphan hydrobromide is very dangerous and is found in most cough syrups. But like any other addiction he has to want to help himself. If you need to talk I am here... sorry I do not have any other information to help.

iv been doing alot of looking on the internet about this sort of thing. there is a cough syrup called Robitussin (guaifenesin cough syrup) i know it sounds stupid because it is cough syrup, but as it has guaifenesin in it, it clears not only the mucas on your chest but also makes your cervical mucas thinner and runnier so the seman can swim through better. look it up on google. but make sure you get the one with guaifenesin in it as the other ones can dry up the cervical mucas .

Hi i can confirm that the cough syrup is robitussin chesty cough medicine that contains (guaifenesin) only.Its in a red and black box.I have never noticed my cervical mucus ever before and this was my first month on clomid.I took robitussin every morning and evening (5ml dose).You only take it after AF has ended and stop when you ovulate.I drank a glass of grapefruit juice every morning as its supposed to help CM too.

Also, i take some antiseptic and anti-inflammatory medication like bradoral 0.5 mg (domiphen bromide ). I was wondering if albterol cough syrup might help with my coughing and breathing. I am not a fan of inhalers nor do I like taking pills. Today has been horrible, everytime I open my mouth to talk I cough. I don't feel weezy it's a lot of coughing. I have been extremely busy so that bring about the coughing. My Pediatrician and our local pharmacist recommend no cough syrup before the age of 6. The reason is that in a small amount of cases it has caused swelling of the brain. If you look at the label on cough syrup for children, even those typically recommend for age 6 and up (at least the brands I have seen.) When my 2 1/2 year old has a cold with a cough I give him milk slightly warmed with honey in it. I have also given him a teaspoon of honey on it's own. It works extremely well.

My good friend has a son that keeps buying cough syrup and drinking it like water. He tells his mom, (my friend) that he has a cold, but she says he doesn't seem sick and wonders if he is drinking the stuff to get a high. Her son is 16 yrs. old.
