Avatar n tn But then she also took (the correct dose) 10 mg of a prescription medicine Guaifenesin-Codeine syrup (generic for Robitussin AC syrup). It doesn't state on the label the quantity of Guaifenesin mg in the 5mL dose. How much is too much Guaifenesin?
1777912 tn?1314474892 iv been doing alot of looking on the internet about this sort of thing. there is a cough syrup called Robitussin (guaifenesin cough syrup) i know it sounds stupid because it is cough syrup, but as it has guaifenesin in it, it clears not only the mucas on your chest but also makes your cervical mucas thinner and runnier so the seman can swim through better. look it up on google. but make sure you get the one with guaifenesin in it as the other ones can dry up the cervical mucas .
Avatar f tn I'm a recovering alcoholic and i was recently prescribed cheratussin cough syrup for a bad cold i have. my doctor didnt mention anything about the alcohol content and shes aware of my battles with alcohol. i began taking the cough syrup without researching it and now a friend of mine is saying that it contains a large amount of alcohol. i tryed to contact my doctor only to find that shes gone for the week and i have searched the internet and found no answers.
1047147 tn?1328906154 At first most people wonder what on earth a cough syrup has to do with fertility, but the logic is easily found in the fact that it is an expectorant and is being used to loosen and thin mucus - just in a different place than the lungs! The name Robitussin was used in the title of this FAQ as it is a common brand of cough syrup in the United States. It is used on the fertility boards and newsgroups in the same manner as saying Band-Aid for an adhesive strip used to cover a cut.

1386765 tn?1451164337 I am not sure if this works or if this is a coincidence but I have to say the two times I used it I got pregnant. Try taking cough syrup. Just get the pain ole Robitussin with guaifenesin. Don't get it with any other active ingredients. The guaifenesin is the ingredient to loosen mucus. We generally use it for chest congerstion but it also loosens our lower region's mucus wich in turn help aid the sperm to its final goal...your egg.

Avatar n tn For OTC cough syrup, I use Delsym (Dextromethorphan polistirex) or Mucinex (Guaifenesin). I've never had a problem with either, and I'd consider myself fairly sensitive to cold medications. When I need the big guns, I get my PCP to prescribe Tussionex (chlorpheniramine and hydrocodone) aka. "Liquid Gold". I love this stuff. It's expensive, hence the name. But you WILL stop coughing, and you WILL sleep!
Avatar f tn Hi i can confirm that the cough syrup is robitussin chesty cough medicine that contains (guaifenesin) only. Its in a red and black box.I have never noticed my cervical mucus ever before and this was my first month on clomid.I took robitussin every morning and evening (5ml dose). You only take it after AF has ended and stop when you ovulate.I drank a glass of grapefruit juice every morning as its supposed to help CM too.
Avatar f tn Does anyone use decongestants (Guiefenesin found in cough syrup & cold meds) to help CM to be a good consistency? I heard it helps the sperm get through more easily. A friend of mine was TTC for five years and her husband had low motility. She started taking cough syrup and within 6-12 months, got pregnant and miscarried a few weeks in (in Nov.) & now is 5 weeks pregnant again and everything is looking good. I have been TTC for two years and am wondering if I should try it. Is it safe?
Avatar f tn Just read somewhere about Guaifenesin helping in getting you pregnant by thinning your cervical fluid, which enables sperm to travel through your cervix and fertilize an egg. Read this: http://www.babycenter.com/404_can-taking-cough-syrup-help-me-conceive_1336322.bc Hope it helps. Am thinking of giving it a try. SSBD to all!!!
1190279 tn?1324936257 I used Mucinex which has the same ingredient (guaifenesin) in it as Robitussin, but it does not taste bad because it is a pill. I used it for my 2nd round of Clomid and I am now 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant!!! I started it 3 days after my last Clomid pill and continued to take it until I knew I had ovulated. I took 600 mg once per day. I hope that helps!
631676 tn?1333718203 Robitussin decongestant syrup is known to increase cm. If you look it up, you will find a lot of info on it. There are several types of robitussin available but it is important to use the plain robitussin with guafinessin as the only active ingredient. I just started using it last month and did see an increase in cm. As Pam said, the preseed is a lubricant that aids the cm in getting the guys where they need to be. I'll post more info on Robitussin for you. Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn Robitussin works on the cervical mucus and increases your chances of getting pregnant Robitussin is a popular brand of cough syrup and it might be surprising to consider its relation with fertility. But the fact is that this expectorant is used to loosen and thin mucus of a different kind too, called cervical mucus, in women. Robitussin is only a specific brand and any expectorant that contains guaifenesin as the only active ingredient can be used in its place.
Avatar f tn I have done a lot of research tonight, but the one thing I forgot is the cough syrup I was given: Dexamethazone*Guaifenesin. I have been taking it faithfully, 2 teaspoons every four hours (even throughout the night). I researching this I found that it can cause difficulty urinating and also shortness of breath which I have had this evening. I stopped taking the normal dosage at 6 p.m. and now, at 1:50 a.m., I went in and took only 1 teaspoon.
1102149 tn?1259692962 I took over the counter generic mucinex with only active ingredient guafenesin in Oct. and got my BFP in Nov. So, I can't say it helped but who knows. I did notice more CM throughout my cycle and not really being dry like I'm used to. LOL I hope this helps. I have heard people talk about pre-seed and EPO too. Doesn't hurt to try stuff. Good luck...
Avatar n tn I've had asthma since I was little, and as far as I've gathered, expectorant is for non-asthmatic cough sufferers while mucolytics are for asthmatics. Is this true? What's confusing me though is why "guaifenesin", a component in one asthma pill I used to take, is used as an "expectorant", and the only OTC drug available for the purpose of easing the removal of phlegm here in the U.S.
927769 tn?1275932602 However, on page 7 you recommend guaifenesin, an ingredient in Robitussin cough syrup, as a potential remedy for women who are having fertility problems because of overly short cervical fluid patches. A recent study has shown that another ingredient in Robitussin, Dextromethorphan, causessevere birth defects in chicken embryos. These include neural tube defects such as spinobifita and craniofacial anomalies including cleft lip and palate defects.
Avatar n tn The alternative is guaifenesin, which you can buy over-the-counter. Mucinex contains guaifenesin, but I would get the plain guaifenesin. It works very well.
Avatar f tn I do know you only need the plain kind, nothing else should be in it just guaifenesin. If you get the one with that is mixed it can have the opposite reaction. Also you need to drink plenty of water!! YOu have to do this in order for it to work. I just started taking clomid and i read to start the guaifenesin on day 10 till ovulation. On a website for fertility i read that you need to take 200mg three times a day!

Avatar n tn yes, well sort of. It's Guaifenesin an ingredient found in cough meds. You can usually find a store brand of robitussin that has only Guaifenesin in it. The ingredient is made to break up mucus, but if taken while you ovulate it can make your CM more compatible with sperm.
Avatar f tn So the dic put me on Symbicort inhaler 2 x a day for a month to start and a 15-day course of tapering Prednisone along with some cough syrup (guaifenesin and a little codeine) but only about three days worth of the syrup. None of it is really suppressing this cough. First couple of days I had a slight amount of blood in the urine from the prednisone. I guess I was dehydrated...and I do take a diuretic daily.
